nae02etc
Hi everyone! I'm on day 2 of the program and so far so good! I've been eating mostly paleo for the past month or two, so the committment is strong. The weekend is approaching, though, and I'm going to be at various parties where other people will be drinking beer and cocktails. My drink of choice is usually vodka or gin and soda, and frankly, I'm awkward in social situations so I like a drink or two just to loosen up! Having a glass in my hand is pretty much a crutch to calm my nerves, so I'm wondering what to order at the bar that's more fun than water?
Moderators Tom Denham Posted August 9, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 9, 2012 You could drink club soda with a twist of lime.

nae02etc
Good to know that club soda is still OK! I'll just have to get creative with dressing it up...lemon, lime, mint, olives.

missmary
How is club soda ok? Doesn't it have bad chemicals in it? /: Not really. Here's the explaination from Wikipedia: Commercial soda water in siphons is made by chilling filtered plain water to 8 °C (46 °F) or below, optionally adding a sodium or potassium based alkaline compound such as sodium bicarbonate to reduce acidity, and then pressurizing the water with carbon dioxide. Personally, I'll do pellegrino or some naturally sparkling mineral water over club soda, but club soda is ok if they don't have that option. Colleen Roy
I just have plain old water with lemon when I don't want to drink. No one ever questions it. I think it's all in OUR heads-no one cares what we are drinking!
Xan Hart
Not drinking booze has been one of the harder parts for me. I have a high stress job that, industry wide, practically comes with a shot and a beer. The only way for me to go out and not feel uncomfortable or be super tempted is to go out where I never have before. If you're used to drinking at "joe's bar and grill" just go somewhere else. My logic was "Im not used to having a beer here so why would I" Hope this helps
Debbie B
Anyone have a thought on a virgin Bloody Mary with olives? I know we aren't supposed to drink fruit juice, but would this be ok as an occasional treat? I have been doing the club soda thing...
Robin Strathdee
I would imagine just the tomato juice would be fine, as long as it was pure juice. I'd ask the bartender if you could read his mix label (or tomato juice can). And the olive can.
