August 5th, day 2

To bed about 10:45.

Woke up at 5: puppy girl? bathroom call?

Went back to sleep till 7:30.

Constipation, oh no, not again. Have a dose of a biological remedy from my integrative doc.

8 AM

2 cups black tea with coconut milk

Not hungry for breakfast just yet, a little off balance. Blame it on the cream pie & chardonnay extravaganza of the weekend. Take my meal to work, but crazy day shows up, can't have a bite.

3 PM

2 glasses water & lemon kefir

Roasted chicken breast

Boiled broccoli

2 tbsp homemade sauerkraut

Duck fat

Couldn't finish my plate.

Constipation still on. More remedy + glass of water with 2 tbsp Epsom salts

6 PM

2 cups mint tea with lemon juice

Big nice bath with sea salt and ti-tree oil. Scrub with baking soda. Slather in coconut oil.

9 PM

1 cup beef bone broth (first time I put seaweed in the blend)

Felt: not too bad, not too good. I think nothing's had any effect just yet, I'm still in the state my lousy weekend put me. Worried about the constipation. Last time it took half the fun (and effect) of my Whole30. It never went until I finished and had some bread. What on earth do you need, sweet gut of mine?

August 6th, day 3

Slept: 7 hours. 11 PM - 6 AM (puppy girl, positive  ). Decently rested.

7:30 AM

1 cup tea with coconut milk

1 chicken thigh

Mixed raw greens and lettuce, handful

Sauerkraut, 2 tbsp

Apple cider vinegar, olive oil

3 PM

Glass of lemon kefir

Had to run to an appointment at lunch time. No problem with hunger. The more paleo you eat, the more you can wait before eating.  ;)

6 PM

Chicken thigh

Lettuce, raw greens

1 cup seaweed (cochayuyo)

Lemon, olive oil

1 cup white tea

8 PM

1 banana

10 PM

1 bowl soup: beef bone broth, carrots, kale, onion, fresh cilantro

Felt: just the same.

Constipation: —TMI alert— Remedies have caused diarrea, but I still feel clogged, like there's a rock that hasn't been affected. Sigh. That thing is my nemesis. Robbed me all my life. It had gotten better. Then it started again with my first W30.

August 7th, day 4

Slept: not too much (boyfriend, puppy girl...) but I don't feel it has altered me much

8 AM

1 cup tea with coconut milk

1 big plate of soup: beef bone broth, carrot, kale, onion, meat

2 tbsp sauerkraut

Mid-morning: glass lemon kefir

2 PM

Same soup, 1 bowl

9 PM

glass lemon kefir

handful olives

medium steak

2 cups swiss chard

1 tbsp duck fat

1 banana

Note: didn't take my vitamin D3 supplement, had 1 tsp cold liver oil instead

Felt: rather good, energetic, not too much either

Rock bottom: on its way to alleviation?

Friday, August 8th, day 5

Slept: cut again, by lovely external agents. 12 PM - 6:30 AM = 6.5 hours. I feel a bit tired.

8 AM

1 cup tea w coconut milk

steak

squash, cilantro

duck fat

mid-morning

glass lemon kefir

2 PM

salad: lettuce, chives, cilantro, seaweed, olives

steak

apple cider vinegar, olive oil

small coffee

6 PM

banana

9:30 PM

handful olives

soup: beef bone broth, beef, carrots, onion, squash, kale

2 tbsp sauerkraut

2 kiwis

Rock bottom: still half here. Somewhat bloated, some tummy ache after eating or drinking something. My usual self.

I have NO typical symptoms of W30. I feel just the same as usual.

It's so strange. I know as I was already quite paleo I wasn't expecting too big a healing crisis. But I'm diagnosed with candida overgrowth, and I was consuming wine, sweets, rice, potatoes... Now I'm barely eating any fruit, that should be a significant drop in sugar and an attack on the candida. Why am I not feeling anything?

I've got the premise of a theory: that my constipation doesn't allow me to flush all theses toxins out (pull the plug in the bathtub, in the words of David Wolfe today at the Detox Summit). I think I should do enemas or colonics. I've been wanting to try that for some time, but I haven't been able to find where to buy the material or find a practitioner. Not that I've tried much, I'm too embarrassed.

Breathe. Just try more.

Saturday, August 9th, day 6

Slept: too little (it's about time I leave my bedroom door closed so puppy girl doesn't wake me), unpleasant dreams

Not feeling good. Rock bottom still there. Tired. See everything in black.

8 AM

1 cup tea w coconut milk

soup from yesterday

2 tbsp sauerkraut

mid morning

glass lemon kefir

banana

1 PM

salad: lettuce, seaweed, cilantro

cold steak

apple cider vinegar, olive oil

8 PM

2 handful olives

2 cups boiled cauliflower with leaves

chorizo (porks, spices* might contain some paprika or bell pepper)

ghee

1 tsp cod liver oil

2 tbsp Epsom salt

To bed: 10 PM

Wednesday 13th, day 10

6:30 AM

1 cup black tea w coconut cream

1 hamburger patty w coconut oil

2 cups green beans with a little leftover soup

1 tbsp sauerkraut

3 kiwis

1 more tea

3 PM

1,5 sausage

1 cup seaweed

olive oil, lemon

3 mandarins

1 cup green tea w coconut cream

7:30 PM

1 bowl leftover lamb soup w Dijon mustard

1 apple

Supplements: 1 tsp cod liver oil, 400 Vit D3

Elimination: same. Managing with Epsom Salts. But the result is diarrea no matter the dosage, AND still an impression that my bowels aren't emptying. Mucous hypothesis.

To bed: 9:45. Slept immediately. But Puppy Girl woke me up at 3 and then 5.

Beli. I am also doing AIP - since the beginning of June.

It doesn't make me constipated but I have done enemas and colonics in the past and I think both can be very helpful.

Maybe start with a colonic? I know enema can feel a bit weird and scary to start.

Feel free to ask me or PM me with any questions about colonics, I've had quite a few so don't be embarrassed.

I also did a cleanse in Thailand where we did two enemas a day for 10 days!!!

How about this place?

Wow, Deb, thank you very much! I'll call that practitioner this week.

And yes, I gladly accept your offer to tell me more on this subject.  :)

For instance, I'm a bit surprised you say a colonic is less scary than an enema? My feeling was that an enema was less efficient but cheaper and you didn't have to face any stranger.  :o

Thank you!

Saturday 16th, day 13

Things are getting tougher. I'm having cravings, temptations, feeling unstable food-wise.

I skipped the Epsom salts the last two days and it's total rock bottom again.

I'm also tired, especially in the late afternoons. And my mind is foggy, I don't concentrate well, I forget what I just heard.

7 AM

1,5 cup tea w coconut cream

1 hamburger patty

2 cups green beans and mushrooms

1 banana

3 PM

1 slice arrollado huaso (cooked pork meat, spices, ají —I realize I'm being terrible at sticking to AIP)

2 cups mixed salad (dark lettuce, kale, mustard leaves, tomato, chives, parsley, onion, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, olive oil)

2 boiled Chiloé potatoes

1 apple

1 banana

1 small cup coffee w coconut cream

The banana was too much, I was stuffing myself with something sweet.

6 PM

I'm feeling tired and craving everything off-plan from my refrigerator. I go lie down and read in my room.

1,5 cup herbal tea (lemon balm)

8 PM

1 bowl soup: lamb broth, squash, Chiloé potatoes, cilantro, garlic

1 small slice arrollado huaso

1 apple

Supplements: zinc, vit b6, selenium, magnesium glycinate, vit d3, cod liver oil

2 tbsp Epsom salts before bed.

To bed: 9:30

Oh Beli sorry to hear you are struggling still.

I don't know why but for me having the "expert" administer the colonic seems less scary than me in my bathroom alone. They talk  you through it and massage your belly (sometimes) and in general the moral support is great. A colonic also gets much much much higher up in the colon than an enema. Afterwards you will feel like a new person!!

Here in the US we have a tea called Smooth Move - its basically senna - I'm not a huge fan of it - or stool softeners - but in desperate times the combo of both has worked for me.

I see what you mean, Deb. As long as the expert is nice and the place gives me confidence, I actually prefer that too. I hope it works when I call tomorrow...!

I don't know if there's senna tea here, I'll look, I've never heard of it. The only thing that's worked for me in some sort is magnesium in the form of Epsom salts. But what a terrible taste!

Sunday, August 17th, day 14

Up about 8, though Puppy Girl woke me up several times during the night and started her playing day at about 6.

8 AM

1 cup "decaf" green tea w coconut cream

(I decided to ease into eliminating caffein. I pour a little boiling water on the tea leaves, wait just 30 seconds, throw away this first tea which I heard is the one that has caffein, and pour water again to make the tea I will have.)

9 AM

1 hamburger patty

2 cups green beans and mushrooms

duck fat

1 apple

Mid morning (after gardening in the sun)

2 glasses lemon kefir

1 PM

grilled beef meat (basted with ghee, oregano and thyme)

2 cups salad: grated carrots, a little red cabbage, kale and mustard leaves, avocado oil

5 PM

1 decaf white tea w coconut cream

a few tsp coconut cream

7:30 PM

2 cups shrimp, avocado, grapefruit and chives salad

1 cup rice (ok, I know I really went off-plan with this one)

9 PM

a few tsp berries w whipped coconut cream

Supplements: same

No Epsom salts

Felt: rather good. Rock bottom is eased. Sunny Sunday. Felt asleep in my hammock after lunch.

One observation: since the beginning of this W30 I have felt pretty stable emotionally, while my energy levels have stayed rather low. This is different from my first, where I also gained a lot of energy (while having the same constipation problem). My first time I had ditched caffein. I guess that must mean that SUGAR has an effect on my mood, and CAFFEIN on my energy. To test this hypothesis, I'm cutting down caffein.
