Maybe low sugar issues

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Let me start saying that I've never had low sugar problems.  I started whole30 August 1st and did very well except for strong cravings of things I usually don't eat, but they would go away after a good 20 minutes.  I fell off the wagon this past Thursday (day 7) when I decided to have 2 glasses of wine with dinner. My food was compliant all day it was just the 2 glasses of wine. I started over Friday and spent the weekend with strong sugar cravings.  Like cravings that lasted hours and it didn't matter how much water I drank or how much protein, and fat I ate. I stayed compliant and except for a plum with breakfast and apple chips sprinkled over my salad I didn't have anything too high with sugar. Today I ate 3 egg whites, 1 egg with shredded carrots, half a sweet plantain with a little bit of black coffee at around 8:30am.  At around 10:45 I started feeling a little nauseus, I was getting irritaded by silly things, felt warm and my head felt funny. I was also having a hard time concentrating.  I decided to eat a banana at around 11:30 and drank about 20oz of water.  I felt much better for about 2 hours.  Around 1 I started feeling everything all over again plus a little jittery and very anxious. I had to run a few errands so I sucked it up until I got back to the office.  Here I had my lunch, which was a taco salad minus the tortilla shell (ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, with some spinach and the leftover half plantain. I feel much better.  A coworker said that maybe I need to get my sugar checked, but I have never had sugar problems. I went the first 6 days last week without feeling this way, this would be my new 4th day so I'm not sure what's going on.

Please help and tell me this is normal?

You may need to eat more. Can you post some more of your meals? 3 egg whites and 1 egg is not enough protein for breakfast. You should also eat 1 - 3 cups of veggies and 1 - 2 thumb sized portions of fat per meal. Check out the meal planning template.

Are you getting enough salt? The whole30 is very low on salt unless you are salting your food. Good Luck!

Here is what I ate yesterday and I'm still feeling funny.

Breakfast: Half a sweet potato, 3 egg whites, 2 eggs, slice of avocado, 1 banana.

Lunch: 5 oz of chicken, 1 fried plantain, roasted broccoli and a salad (lettuce, spinach, shredded carrots, pecans, and olive oil)

Post workout: Turkey and applesauce.

Dinner: same as lunch minus the plantain and with avocado. My stomach didn't feel well, so this was me making an effort to eat.

I had almonds in the afternoon as a remedy for the nausea. I felt really fatigued the entire day.  I took a 10 minute nap during my lunch break and another 10 after work before the gym.

Today I'm feeling a little better, but I have an hour until lunch time, and I'm feeling that anxiety feeling again and my head hurts a little.   I'm not hungry, didn't drink coffee (as a mean to avoid that jittery feeling), not pregnant, not other signs of illness.

Except for milk and sugar in my coffee, the occasional ice cream on the weekends, white rice once a week, wine, and whey protein powder this is how I normally eat.  So my diet hasn't changed that drastically......I think.

I have celiac disease so I don't touch gluten, I've been avoiding processed food as much as possible for almost a year now....except for the above mentioned items. I drink about 100 oz of water a day, and I workout 3-4 times a week.  I'm not sure what is going on.

I'll try increasing vegetables, and root vegetables.  I add salt to everything, so I know that's not my problem.
