kwantum
Every now and then I treat my 75% paleo daughter to homemade fries of white potatoes baked in the oven (white potatoes, some chilipowder or pepper and coconut or olive oil. Can I have this on the whole30 if in moderation?
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted August 17, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 17, 2014 Yes -- from the Can I Have Guide: French Fries: Not if they’re commercially prepared or deep-fried Ordering fries with your (no bun, no cheese) burger and green salad really misses the point of the Whole30. Fries are the epitome of “food with no brakes,” and anything deep-fried in vegetable oil is be default unhealthy. Make your own potatoes at home using coconut oil, duck fat, or ghee, and baking or roasting them in the oven instead of deep-frying them; or order them baked or mashed (no cheese, sour cream, or butter!) if dining out. - See more at: http://whole30.com/2013/06/the-official-can-i-have-guide-to-the-whole30/#sthash.iEAs8Oq5.dpuf

Dana15
Hi, Pretty new since I am on Day 7 today. Could I sautee potatoes in avocado oil on stove top, do you think? I am not a huge potato eater to begin with, so I would only have a bit. My son loves them this way and wondering if it would work for whole30. I would think that's okay, they aren't really anything like deep fried french fries like that. I do sweet potatoes that way sometimes. Hopefully a moderator will weigh in if I'm wrong. Many of us saute/pan fry plaintains like this as well when we are on plan so I can't why to leave out the lowly potato. The only thing here - as what goes with everything around here - if the certain food becomes food without breaks (meaning you can't stop eating them, or you have to have them with every meal) then we suggest you reign your consumption in. Either that or vote them off the island for 30 days.....
DurhamDoesPaleo
My dad slices the potatoes super thin, coats them in Emeril's Essence, and grills them! They practically taste fried, but they're so yummy. I haven't checked the spice for Whole30 compatibility, but I can't imagine it's off-limits. LisaLulu
We weren't allowed potatoes on my first whole 30 so being able to eat them feels amazing!!! I'm going to make cabbage rolls this week and put mashed potato in instead of rice!

Essence is compliant, and really easy to make: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/emerils-essence-recipe.html
