Deb - I am better than good.....today I am delicious!

All - today is wipe down the walls and doors day! Get all of the pet and kid paw, fingers, and nose prints off of the walls.

I need everyone to exercise a bit today also! Get 30 minutes of doing something....and that doesn't mean snacking! Walk, run, jog, bike, swim, fly, wiggle, jump, squat, DO SOMETHING!

I want to hear EVERYONE post up in the next 24 hours to see how everyone is doing! STOP LURKING and give me some feedback. We are almost done and I want us all to finish strong! Tell everyone how you are feeling and if you need any support or suggestions to get you to the finish line!

Dave

ducky - doing great, off to the gym for 45 elliptical and 30 minutes weights. Will wipe away the kids and cats this eve. You're a great leader. If you could make some cherry bbq sauce for me that would be appreciated, but other than that, you rock.

Good morning Crew,

Proud of all of you finishing your trip, I will have to continue on my own??? Will see.

Day 3 and looking great. I endured medical issues with hubby yesterday and we went to a Mexican Restaurant, I had just plain fajita meat with just salt and pepper, and some onions and bell peppers, avocado and pico de gallo. Hubby was surprised I survived the cheese, salsa and chips Yay! Health is a good motivator definitively.

Last night grass fed sirloin patties, with bunch of basil, oregano, and other italian seasonings, delicious, my son loved it.

Turkey and veggies for lunch today, and boiled eggs for breakfast. Most important, I have been walking and see my fitbit flower grow, and resist to step in the scale.

-Lynn, I am glad I inspired you to reactivate your fit bit, it gave me a lot of motivation too. I got my first week report today, and totals are these, looking to improve them more and more every week.

65,762  Steps wohooo

Miki  - Taro Chips would be DELICIOUSSSSS yummy, I think you have to do it similar to tostones, pre cook and then fry or dehydrate

Meadowlily, always inspiring, informative and an educator. THANK YOU

Laurie, Hugs and the best in this new opportunity from life

Ann, Thank you for sharing your tips and meals plan

I will look into the Essentialism book, I have to say I am far behind from essential myself, would have to start getting rid of clothes and shoes, and not ready, not yet.

Everybody have a great day, YOU ROCK! WHOLE30 ROCKS!

Good morning friends!

I woke up my boys this AM with a fire alarm because I burned my sweet potatoes!

Anne-   I cook up my sweet potatoes and my proteins in a big batch on the weekend as they seem to store well through out the week.  But I struggle with the other veggies too.   I went back to read your post in detail and am going to try to implement your approach with veggies next week.   I think it will help me also introduce more variety of veggies for M3 and leftovers...  just shopping for the veggies may mean less shopping fatigue and more willingness to spend time choosing a variety. Thanks for this!

Meadow-   thanks for the info on ancient rye!   I was wishfully hoping it would be a special variety that was gluten free- but alas no.   I love rye bread and it is one of the things I miss most since being gluten free -  probably second only to beer!!   But the itchy skin lesions I get from gluten are just not worth it.   So my friend I will be living vicariously through you as you enjoy your rye bread-   please describe in luscious detail ok?

Lynn

Okay...now that you've read it, I'm removing it shortly because it doesn't belong on a Whole 30.  I won't tempt anyone.

I'm not the only who really slips up when it comes to the whole30 recommendation about WHERE we should be eating - for me it was easy to avoid the TV, but rarely a day goes by when I don't eat at least one meal in front of my emails, or with my ipad in front of me - sometimes even reading this forum! The inability to just eat with no other distraction but the yummy food in front of me is a hard habit to break - and I think it's easy to convince yourself that a newspaper article is better than the tv, but in reality they all do the same job in that they focus your brain on something other than the food you are putting in your mouth.

I've always found the days I managed to get out of the office for my lunch and just eat on a bench with no distractions are the ones when I don't feel hungry again in the afternoon, so I found this experiment really interesting:

"Your brain, not your stomach, tells you when to stop eating

Hunger is in the mind. Dr Suzanne Higgs at Birmingham University carried out a remarkable experiment to prove it. Her team gave a group of amnesiacs a lunch of sandwiches and cakes. When everybody had finished eating, they cleared away and brought in a fresh lunch 10 minutes later. A control group of people with no memory problems groaned and refused any more food. The amnesiac group tucked in and ate the same again.

When we eat in front of the television or while looking at our computer screen at work, we are not giving lunch or dinner our full attention. Our brain is not registering how much we have eaten and we may well feel we haven't had enough. Higgs is working on a phone app so that people can take pictures of their meals and snacks as a reminder that they've actually had enough."

I particularly liked this section, which I think I might start using in my elevator pitch when explaining why I'm doing the whole30

No one would buy an expensive car and fill it with lighter fluid and then expect anything but disaster. Yet we are happy to fill the world's most complex machine – the human body – with weird junk. Products which are not made by the power of the sun, but manufactured in the dark in tubes and machines, have triggered a health crisis which is spinning out of control.

Not a lot to report today. 23 mile bike ride - the tri training is getting a little intense so I'll be ready for race day to be here in 10 days!

Rick and I did sign up for the bike to booze 50 mile bike ride (called the "Finish Wine!")

Otherwise, just busy with work and Sam is crushed with homework so I'm trying to be a great supporter :)

And Deb's fried chicken. Mmmmm.....

Good morning friends!

Today I fly off to my sisters farm!    Very excited to see her and the whole family.  Looking forward to great food, about as fresh and local as it can be.

The Whole30 Daily reward video for yesterday (my official day 26) was really fantastic.   SPOILER ALERT!!   I don't think anyone here is on their first Whole30 so I really want to share and discuss......  but if you are on your first Whole30 and you are doing the Whole 30 Daily and you haven't gotten to Day 26 yet please stop reading now...  you can come back when you get to your day 26....

This is an auto-tuned segment of sciences speeches in a series called "the symphony of science" -  this one is called "an ode to the brain"  Below are my favorite quotes from the video but you really have to watch it to get the full impact.

This will be on my mind all day....

Lynn

"Information in the form of energy streams in simultaneously through all of our sensory systems

And then it explodes into this enormous collage of what this present moment looks like, what it feels like, and what it sounds like.

And in this moment we are perfect.  We are whole.  We are beautiful."

Jill Bolte Taylor, neuroanatomist, stroke survivor

"No longer at the mercy of the reptile brain we can change ourselves.  Think of the possibilities!"

"This intricate and marvelous network of neurons has been called an enchanted room"

"The brain is a very big place, in a very small space"

                                                                                  Carl Sagan

"We see with the eyes, but we see with the brain as well.  And seeing with the brain is often called imagination"

                                                                                                                                                               Oliver Sacks

"It is the most mysterious part of the human body and yet it dominates the way we live our adult lives. It is the brain."

                                                                                                                                                         Robert Winston

I feel very bad that I am not being an active member of this group.  I have such a difficult time reading and concentrating.  Part of it is an ADD issue and the other is my life.  Steve is back in the hospital after only one night at the extended stay hotel.

I want to change my one word.  "Peace" just won't do it for me.  I might just copy CC (she knows her stuff) and use the word "NOURISH".

Laurie, for now - I ask that you see you through our eyes. We see a woman that has and should have two focuses 1) take care of yourself, 2)take care of Steve.

We are here for you. This is about you. You contribute perfectly. No one expects or wants anything more (except for maybe watermelon stories). Love yourself. Love Steve. We'll love you!

Thank you Miki.  I love you.  I celebrated Steve's first release from the hospital with watermelon.  I guess I can celebrate his second release with watermelon or maybe I will choose a new fruit.  To be honest, I'm ready for a change.  I have done a lot of cantaloupe so that's out too.

Miki - well said.

Laurie - we are happy when you have a chance during your busy schedule to chime in with a few words and an update on Steve. None of us  require you to be a full time participant until Steve is "out of the woods". Take care, know that our thoughts, prayers, and love are continuosly flowing from this group for you and Steve.

All - I heard today that U.S. children eat too much salt. I can't say that I am surprised since EVERYTHING is smothered in salt. The last time my wife bought pork chops or ribs....they were sooooooo full of salt that it actually changed the texture of the meat. GROSS! Aside from bacon, I am given up on pork meat.

I noticed a 3 inch crack in my 4 month old windshield on my '66 Comet. By this morning it was about 18 inches. I called the glass company which was supposed to come out last night to look at it, but I never heard another word from them...........NOT GOOD BUSINESS! Hopefully they will cover it under warranty.

I am signing up for a 5k today which will be ran the first week of October. It's been awhile since I did one of these so it should be interesting. If they will allow pets, I might even let my black lab KC have another go at it.......as long as he doesn't trip me again.

Have a great day!

Dave - you are so correct about the Salty Dogs who love salt.

Rotisserree chickens are loaded with salt, too.    Store bought fried or grilled chicken...loaded to the gills with salt.   We know the butcher and manager.   They usually use all of the chickens that are on the verge of spoiling and some sort of salty brine....to bring new life to that old chicken to put on your table.   They don't waste anything.   Ever notice your fried or grilled chicken looks all whackadoodle...not like homemade?

I'm your Huckleberry.

Guys, we are rocketing through this Whole 30. We're almost done!!!

We've completed our round the world tour, and we're back to an ordinary old IOD today.

Its a good one - BEEF!!

Us D30 Paleocats did ground beef as an IOD on Day 11 of our previous W30. So I will not be including GB today.

ALSO today we have a BONUS IOD.

Bonus IOD is AVOCADO, which the D30 did unofficially on our other thread! I will post that REDUX after the beef recipes.

Allright, here we go, beef. (some of these may be reruns from our international segments but I'll post them anyway).
