Why I no longer make smoothies, especially with whey....

The other major category of milk protein is whey. Whey is a blend of multiple types of smaller proteins and hormones, including immunoglobulins, insulin, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), estrogens, and other growth factors. (Remember, milk is a powerful growth promoter!) For this reason, milk is a highly insulinogenic food, which means that the combination of lactose plus whey dairy proteins causes the release of very large amounts of insulin when consumed.

The remarkably large amount of insulin secreted in response to milk and whey protein intake may prove problematic for those with metabolic syndrome, as in this population, it does not promote a healthy hormonal response. Anyone seeking to improve insulin sensitivity (or avoid becoming insulin resistant) would be best served by avoiding dairy products.

Insulin is not the only potentially detrimental hormone increased by milk. Milk consumption also significantly elevates IGF-1, another powerful growth-inducer. IGF-1 promotes growth in children, but it is also associated with promotion (or indirect facilitation) of various cancers, such as breast, colon, and prostate. Of course, we’re not saying that if you drink milk, you’ll get cancer, but if you’re at high risk, consuming substances that increase the growth of cells, including abnormal cells, seems unwise.

Yes, she has dog boots.    She flings her legs out sideways like two kids with a horse costume on.  She can't stand the boots or the coat, but she would freeze without them.   The walk was not long.  We high tailed it right back home.  We're not ready for this.

Did you know that you can tell the temperature by counting the chirps of a cricket? It's true! Here's the formula:

To convert cricket chirps to degrees Fahrenheit, count number of chirps in 14 seconds then add 40 to get temperature.

Example: 30 chirps + 40 = 70° F

To convert cricket chirps to degrees Celsius, count number of chirps in 25 seconds, divide by 3, then add 4 to get temperature.

Example: 48 chirps /(divided by) 3 + 4 = 20° C

Did you know that Snopes is really this....

SNOPES IS RUN BY A MAN AND A WOMAN WITH NO BACKGROUND IN INVESTIGATION USING GOOGLE.

Snopes.com has been considered the 'tell-all final word' on any comment, claim and email. Once negative article by them and people point and say, "See, I told you it wasn't true!" But what is Snopes? What are their methods and training that gives them the authority to decide what is true and what is not? For several years people have tried to find out who exactly was behind the website Snopes.com. Only recently did they get to the bottom of it. Are you ready for this? It is run by a husband and wife team - that's right, no big office of investigators scouring public records in Washington, no researchers studying historical stacks in libraries, no team of lawyers reaching a consensus on current caselaw. No, Snopes.com is just a mom-and-pop operation that was started by two people who have absolutely no formal background or experience in investigative research.
102210_1614_somuchforsn11.png
......are from San Fernando Valley of California. They started their website  'Snopes'  about 13 years ago. After a few years it began gaining popularity as people believed it to be unbiased and neutral. But over the past couple of years people started asking questions when 'Snopes' was proven wrong in a number of their conclusions. There were also criticisms the Mikkelsons were not really investigating and getting to the 'true' bottom of various issues, but rather asserting their beliefs in controversial issues.

Have an excellent week end, looking good here food wise, cold still bothering my throat, not much though.  Wedding anniversary today, but so busy with kid activity that will have a rain check for celebration.  Hubby sent me yellow roses to the office, how sweet of him, and a customer sent me a fruit/veggie arrangement for treating him nice, so cool.  I passed around the office giving away all the chocolate covered fruits, and left a few pineapple and melon slices for me, as well as the kale on the bottom.

I have school all day tomorrow, will pack my meals for the day, still not sure what I will cook. Daughter visiting from college and her Bday on Sunday, I will stay motivated and strong, day 5 for me...

I wish all and each one of you the best weekend possible, stay safe!  Will be back on Monday probably

Today's IOD is one of my my favorites - FENNEL.

It is GREAT in salad and also roasted.

I love to use the ferny fronds in salads too, or throw them into my bone broth pot.

Fennel is crunchy and slightly sweet with a slight flavor of anise.

I actually don't like anise/licorice but I do like fennel so that tells you how subtle the flavor is.

It pairs really well with lemon, fish, chicken, all citrus actually, is delicious with arugula, and is truly one of my favorite ingredients.

Fennel is tremendously good for you, and all of that interesting info can be found right here:

I popped in quick for two reasons:

1. Miki: HAVE AN AWESOME TIME IN CABO! I know it's Sunday, but I'm not sure how much you will be popping in here and I just wanted to wish you the best!!!

2. Deb - did you know that Red Boat Fish Sauce smells like FEET?  I tried to make the Asian chicken, but I was gagging so much I couldn't do the sauce. I'll eat it when I don't it's in there!!

More to come on the weekend!

CC I actually have always thought it smells like a**

Seriously. But it doesn't stop me from loving eating it!!!!!!!

What does that say about me!!

I'm having the Asian chicken for lunch today!

Remember the fish sauce is just anchovies and salt! Nothing more sinister!

Hey everyone. I'm back with a new display name.

I've been thinking a lot about reintro and how to decide when the time is right to introduce other foods.

Has anyone had any success with staying W30 until and unless a special occasion comes along that is worth going off road? And then going right back to W30 until the next occasion? I realize this wouldn't allow one to pinpoint problem foods; any thoughts?

Edited to add: To help identify me, I'm on day 43 of this round and I posted about Whole30 being 30 foods instead of 30 days.

Ok - finally some time to check in!

Joni - I love the "30 foods." It's not too far off, is it? LOL

Deb - how was the Asian chicken salad?

Miki - still going to the gym. AWESOME!  Have you packed yet?

Sissy - I don't even know you! Introduce yourself! Or did I miss you somewhere along the way?

Meadow - I so appreciate your info. The crickets and SNOPES!! Good stuff.

Deb, how do you not know SNOPES?

Nanny - how was school today?

An observation from watching Biggest Loser last night.  Each season I watch, and I kind of like that I weigh less than the contestants at the start of the season. But a few shorts weeks later they surpass me and I always end up feeling bad. (I am not a fan of the WAY they lose weight, just sharing my experience.)  I was so sad watching last night. And today I realized that I am now close to where many of them will be at the end of their journey (within 20 pounds, maybe). And I'll be even closer at the end of the season. I ended up feeling very encouraged. Not necessarily about the number, but how much my life has changed for the better this summer, and how very good I feel. So glad to have you all along on the journey.

I am now completely excited about swimming with the dolphins, if I love it I may do it twice!

Hopefully I'll have time to catch up.

Finish strong, you are all amazing
