jbutts654
I just found a new article about Horizon and Silk milk removing Carrageenan from their milk's ingredients. You can read the full article, here: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/whitewave-remove-ingredient-horizon-silk-25042264 I checked their website and found the original Silk Almondmilk ingredient which read: INGREDIENTS: Almondmilk (Filtered Water, Almonds), Cane Sugar, Sea Salt, Locust Bean Gum, Sunflower Lecithin, Gellan Gum. VITAMINS & MINERALS: Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin E Acetate, Zinc Gluconate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Riboflavin (B2), Vitamin B12, Vitamin D2. Is this milk now Whole30 compliant ? missmary
nope. This almond milk has cane sugar, which makes it non-compliant.
jbutts654
Gosh, I was so excited that they removed Carrageenan from the ingredients list that I overlooked the sugar! Yesterday was my last day of Whole30 so Silk Almondmilk may creep back into my diet occasionally. Although, I'm still not really sure what locust bean gum, sunflower lecithin and gellan gum are so maybe not... Thank you, Missmary, for quickly answering my question. Sorry it was a careless mistake on my part!
praxisproject
Chris Kresser has a nice summary of some of the gum things, including locust bean gum: http://chriskresser.com/harmful-or-harmless-guar-gum-locust-bean-gum-and-more (not a Whole30 list, so keep that in mind)
Skibee
Silk unsweetened plain almond milk has never had carrageenan, and it also has no sugar.
praxisproject
Check your labels, some people are reporting Silk now has cane sugar.
RAlfieri
Silk Unsweetened Almond Milk has no sugar. Is the lecithin in this okay? INGREDIENTS: Almondmilk (Filtered Water, Almonds), Sea Salt, Locust Bean Gum, Sunflower Lecithin, Gellan Gum, Natural Flavor. http://silk.com/products/unsweetened-original-almondmilk
Sleeve
It's okay as far as Whole30, but it takes petrochemical processing to get lecithin out of sunflower seeds if that's something you can enjoy.
