Whole30 buddy required!

OK we are in the home stretch! I am starting to think about the off-ramp for this program. I have to find less time-consuming ways to prepare W30 foods (I seriously can't commit an entire Sunday to getting my food life together, which has been the case for the last 3 weekends). I am also making a mental list of the small changes I will make on day 31 (some sweetener in coffee is #1!) and maybe a glass of wine (I thought of fran and JOH this weekend, when I sniffed a friend's cocktail at dinner!). I also have a ways to go for that smokin hot body, so I am committed to keeping up the weight loss motivation from this program.

Love the food without brakes mention, fran (as well as the pray for miracles adage- I will have to co-opt those!). For me, that would be popcorn and nut butters (separately, not together). Those foods will no longer cohabitate with me in my pantry.

I am also planning some non-food rewards for myself; planning a facial for day 31 and a massage the following week (for no apparent reason except as motivation to sustain healthy eating habits). While good food is supposed to be reward in itself, I need more extrinsic motivation.

Have a great day 22, everyone!

I dreamt about you all last night.  I was at a festival watching jam doughnuts being made, and feeling virtuous that I was not going to have any.  Next minute I was eating one that my husband had put in my mouth!  I was horrified, realized I was going to have to tell you all that I cheated but that I wasn't starting again.

I was expecting more tiger blood too W30inri, and maybe it is an age thing.  My 47 year old body was not that unhealthy but I had never cut out grains, dairy, sugar and soya all at once, oh yes and wine!  so I must be patient.  My nails and skin are better than they have been for a while, and i think my hair has suddenly grown a lot.  Hoping the repair work on the inside is even better.

My food shopping is getting easier, just once a week and loving doing the veg washing and prep upfront - makes life much easier - a good new habit for me.  Not sure that I could spend all of Sunday preparing either though.

I hit a super bad slump Monday morning, not sure where that came from, quite depressing, maybe also a blood sugar slump Frantastic?  but feeling good today.  I am feeling more productive at work too, my habit of procrastinating is being challenged thank goodness and my focus is much better.

Made my second batch of cauliflower rice yesterday, man that stuff is good, much better than mashed potato, and awesome with roast chicken - yum, another new habit to keep.

YEa, that wine is callling, though I was sniffing chesecak on the weekend.  Bookclub at my house in two weeks and that will be a celebration, though I still want to try and cook a compliant dinner.  Frantastic you did that for your bookclub recently, any suggestions for a menu please?

Hi everyone! Good to hear about your weekends although it looks like most people had a bit of a slump! I had a super active Saturday morning (Olympic Weightlifting than MASSIVE food shop) and then I went home and SLEPT for two hours. It was wonderful. I love sleep!

I spent three hours (one hour too much!!) food prepping on Sunday. It was too much, timewise, but now I have THE PERFECT fridge, prepwise. I know it sounds like gloating but only you guys will understand! Here's what I did:

Nomnompaleo slow cooker roast chicken (I was sceptical about this because I like really crispy chicken skin but it was so delicious it didn't matter!)

Ginger pork meatballs

Mayo

Pesto

Roasted aubergines, courgettes, mushrooms and squash

Sliced up a bunch of vegetables (spring greens, green and yellow peppers)

Carmalised onions ready to make a frittata for breakfast on Monday.

Beef bones in the slow cooker after the chicken was done.

Steamed broccoli and spiralised cucumbers ready for Monday's lunch boxes

Hmm, listed out like that it doesn't look like much! But it paid off because breakfast on Monday was super speedy: I left the caramelised onions ready in the frying pan and added squash and frittata to it and left the pan in the fridge over night. I got my boyf to make breakfast on Monday so all he has to do was heat up the vegetables, whip up 4 eggs and two leftover egg whites, pour the egg over, let it set and then whack it under the grill. Lunch was already pre-packed so they were easy to grab. Dinner on Monday was Nom nom paleo's cracklin' chicken. OH MY GOD. Have you made it yet? GET CRACKING IF YOU HAVEN'T! It's probably the best thing I've ever eaten (I do say that a lot though!). My favourite thing about the meal, though, was the fact that I just had to grab a couple of handfuls of the spring greens and peppers, whack them in a saucepan with a bit of water to steam for a few minutes, dollop in some pesto and roasted squash...VOILA...veg ready! I made some oven chips to go with dinner which actually turned out pretty good. I was pleased to see potatoes added into the programme although more because I thought it would make eating out easier. In fact I've actually NOT eaten them out at all but we've had them four times since we started -- roast potatoes three times and oven chips last night. I like potatoes, but I definitely find that I don't overeat them like I used to -- I don't mindlessly munch on them. Also I've gotten to the point where I'm so used to NOT eating them that I really just consider them a treat. I did forget how cheap they are though!

Today I went for yoga class at the gym for the first time, which meant being prepared foodwise from breakfast AND lunch. Tada -- leftover frittata for breakfast and leftover cracklin' chicken for lunch. I LOVE being prepared!

Oh we also went and bought a new mini freezer yesterday...I've been thinking about it for a while but the last straw was on Saturday asking the butcher for some bones for stock and he gave me a bag so big it's made two full slow-cooker's worth of stock. I had to make up the stock immediately because I've got no space in the freezer for the bones! Anyway, it's exciting, I can organise my freezer much better now! Just need to get some new containers to put the stock in!

Right, enough from me...how's everyone doing?

Day 23, folks! One more week to go. JOH, I agree with you that the internal healing of a decades-old body is well worth it so I am keeping the faith, if not the persistent hope that I will get tiger blood (maybe at my 57 years, it would be cougar blood?? Yuck!)

Have not yet tried the cauliflower rice, TDC, but your post is inspiring me. I am also a vegetarian (pescatarian, actually, as I do eat fish) so I think that since my protein choices are more limited, I have to spend more time with food prep. I am looking for decent recipes for the slow cooker, which I will pull out of the back of my shelf now that the weather is getting cooler.

I have to say that I think my nails and hair are also sporting a shine that I've not seen before. And my skin is much smoother and more even in tone (I have a touch of rosacia that gets activated by certain foods). Energy seems good, although my Mondays are brutally long so my Tuesdays are pretty low energy anyway.

Two other colleagues at work are doing W30, based on my cajoling. It's actually kinda helpful to talk with folks who are a couple of weeks behind, to keep the process in perspective.

Anon? Treig? Fran? You guys hanging in there?

Bookclub at my house in two weeks and that will be a celebration, though I still want to try and cook a compliant dinner.  Frantastic you did that for your bookclub recently, any suggestions for a menu please?

JoH - here is a menu suggestion:

Flank steak or skirt steak (I marinate in olive oil, red wine vinegar, coconut aminos, lemon juice...you can use whatever you like, just something acidic to help break down the fibers)

Giant salad of mixed greens, arugula, and spinach (and whatever veggies everyone likes - I usually do basics in the main bowl and will then put olives, peppers, etc in separate bowls so people can add as they like)

whatever salad dressing you like (I served a mix of compliant and non-compliant, since what someone else puts on their salad won't affect me)

cubes of roasted butternut squash

roasted asparagus

watermelon for dessert

Here's what's awesome about feeding people in this style...very few people will have an issue having a large lovely meaty salad for their entrée. You just have to make sure there is enough meat and sides so that people feel satiated. And it's all delicious so it doesn't have to be "diet"-ish at all. Serve wine if your friends expect it (and I'm a bit of a B-word when people, especially women, question my food/drink intake, but when I first stopped drinking a few years ago and someone who wasn't a close pal questioned it I would just look at them and say "I read this article about how much wine ages your skin". Not so nice, I know - but very effective)

I bought TWO heads of cauliflower last night so I can make buckets of the faux rice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

I do feel that I spend an inordinate amount of time prepping my food. I also am not the hugest fan of all the clean up needed.

One thing that I'm proud of...my mom has been in the hospital since Friday (she possibly had a small stroke, but also has diabetes, heart disease and lung cancer, so it's kind of hard to always know what the source of the issue is). Normally, the stress and worry (not that this is about me, at all!) would send me straight to the pantry, fridge, and freezer. I can't say that I didn't have the desire at all, but I didn't actually do anything food related.

One of my book club friends emailed me this morning, confessing that she'd spent all day yesterday binge eating (she works at the CDC on the Ebola crisis and her stress level is off the charts, understandably) and that when she plugged all of her eating into myfitnesspal, it informed her that if she kept eating like that she would gain 19lbs in 5 weeks. She followed that up with a "maybe you need to tell me more about this whole 30 thing...:)

My new cookware comes today!!!!!!!!

So, I opened my lunch bag a little while ago and discovered that I forgot over half my lunch! I brought the meat sauce I made over the weekend but forgot the zucchini noodles, the baked sweet potato, and the nectarine. So I ate the sauce (with a spoon - I felt super classy). There would have been enough (had I packed appropriately) to have lunch and a mini meal in the afternoon.

It's going to be a long, ugly afternoon.

Oh fran, what a drag about lunch! And I'm quite sorry to hear about your mom- that is a tough situation to be in but SO VERY PROUD of you for sticking with the program and not overeating! I am right there with you, turning to food for stress reduction. Well done on the self-care front, sister!

I'm sorry to hear about your mum, Fran...amazing how you're handling this!

I once packed a really really yummy lunch and sat down in a lovely park in the sunshine to eat it...only to knock it off and everything fell on the floor. I was SO upset!

Thanks for the well-wishes for my mom! She's had a tough go of it, but she's a 42-year breast cancer survivor and, as she always likes to say she's "a tough old broad". While she would never do a whole 30 (it's too much work) she is fascinated by it and always wants to hear my progress. Mom is continuously baffled by the lack of weighing though! (I grew up in a family where weighing yourself is just ingrained - all of us will even step of the scale after we've peed to see if we lost weight peeing). I told her that while I don't really know if I've lost poundage, I don't feel like I'm entering a room stomach first (and since she and I have the same body type she understood that feeling and said her usual "that's terrific!")

Needless to say, hitting the door hungry yesterday was terrible! I didn't do anything bad...but I didn't do anything good either!! I think that was the first time in over a year that I've left the office right at 5:30! I didn't even run the errands I needed to...just went home, heated up some food, and ate it.

How is everyone doing? I feel like we've lost some people...hopefully they've not given up!

In the final week, guys. Kinda hard to believe that we made it this far (well, at least it's hard to me to believe that I made it this far!). And while the storied tiger blood is not present, I did notice today that in spite of the fact that I had a lousy night's sleep, I did get to the gym and I am reasonably alert this morning. So the lack of crappy symptoms counts for something.

Interesting point about leaving the office at 5:30, fran. Maybe it actually is good to get out of the office after a regular "shift" and not always work late! I do think that this program has broadened my awareness about self-care; I go to bed when I am tired and eat when I am hungry now. I used to try to power through things regardless of how I was feeling, and would be surprised when I'd hit the wall and want to eat crap! So good for you for getting out and having a meal despite your "saucy" lunch situation.

Hope all else is well for everyone today, day 24!

Self care is always another of the side effects of my whole30s. I'm much more aware what not enough sleep or a bad night sleep does for me and what making the right decision about the gym, cooking, socialising, can do for stress levels and general sense of well being.

I got my boyf to do dinner again last night. After a disastrous breakfast yesterday morning where I ended up getting really annoyed at him, I learnt that I need to leave the kitchen and close the door when he's cooking, otherwise my controlling side takes over and I just do it! He works very differently from me -- slowly and methodically; I'm a bit like a whirlwind -- and watching him cook and clean just gets me frustrated. So I got a big glass of coconut water, closed the kitchen door, and went to the living room to study for my naturopathic nutrition course that is starting on Saturday...half an hour later he called me in for dinner. Perfect! So I'm learning to respect myself and have a morning/evening off from cooking, and respecting the space he needs to do the cooking.

I think when I eat spicy food at night I don't sleep all that well; this is the second night after spicy food that I woke up feeling groggy and not very well rested.

Day 25 - morning everyone - hard to believe!  I'm on the same page W30Inri, no tiger blood but definitely an absence of crappy symptoms, feeling good, and feel like these new ways of eating are perhaps becoming a habit.  I am loving the way it is making me experiment more with veg.  Bought a whole cabbage yesterday and now need to figure out what to do with it.

A question - I think I may be eating too much fat - if I cook meal 1 say chicken livers and eggs in a thumb size of coconut oil is that my fat ration, or am I still allowed to add mayo or avo?  Or if my lamb chop has lots of fat on it, is that my fat ration for the meal?

I loved the egg alternatives on today's email, though I love eggs and they fill me up so well in the am, I can see how one can get bored with them.  I am gonna try the lettuce wraps with my family, most of them like lettuce, so it could make a good weekend lunch.

I'm interested in the spicy food and sleep link TDC; I have had some bad nights on Whole30 and haven't been able to figure out why yet.

How is your Mom Frantastic?  Awesome that she is interested in your W30 even if she won't do it herself.  We, actually me, weigh myself all day long too, so losing my scale has been interesting.  Now that I have got over that I have an urge to measure my waist, but I will wait, just a week until we can take all those measurements!

Thanks for the bookclub menu Frantastic, I'll let you know how it goes.

Who is still going to be online after day 30?  Although I can feel I am needing the daily fix of Whole30 emails and chats less, I am gonna need some companionship next week, anyone in?

I am DRAGGING today. Are any of you still randomly tired? (it is "that time of the month" so that may be factoring for me).

I will still be online next week, because I'm going to continue on (I'm going to be on whole 30-60-90-120 until I really feel like my relationship with food has been resolved. Or I go completely insane - whichever comes first!)

Good grief, we are at day 25! And it is so heartening to read about all the ways you guys are noticing big and small changes. TDC, good job with letting go of the bf cooking scenario! My husband and I are much the same and institute the "only one cook in the kitchen at a time" rule to keep the peace! JOH, not sure about the meat and fat question since I am a veg. But my sense is that the guidelines are fairly general and I know that for some meals I have a little more healthy fats, while in others I'm not that hungry for fats. So I think it all evens out but if you are worried, I find that Tom Denham, one of the moderators, seems to be a walking encyclopedia on all things W30!

fran, I also notice random bouts of being tired and I think that for me, my blood sugar drops signficantly between 3-5 pm, so I have got to put a snack or mini-meal in there. My sleeping has generally improved, but I can find myself with a random night of lousy sleep, which is frustrating, for sure.

JOH, I am not going to do hard-core W30 after day 30, but will do W30-lite, so I plan to use this forum to check in with you guys. I find it really helpful to compare my experience with all of you and want to be intentional about what I decide to integrate or not. Plus fran's posts are pretty funny, so I value the humor she brings to the process :)

Hello everyone!

I thought I better check in or you would think I left you. I'm here, just has been a really busy week.

I commend all of you for all the great recipes you have been making. I read some of them and think, "am I doing this right?" I have not gone out of my way to make a lot of new recipes. I have tweaked the old or what the family is eating to match eating meat, vegetables, fruit and fats. I am looking at the end now and definitely feel that I want a treat. On Sunday, it will be day 29 for me, and I really want to enjoy a margarita with my friends at a Packer (football) party. I feel like the book states, what big deal will it be to enjoy myself and have one a day early? But that's how I got into my unhealthy habits, isn't it?  I promised my kids on day 31 we would go to the frozen yogurt bar and enjoy! Now don't panic, I intend on enjoying some yogurt but really have curbed my sweet cravings and don't want toppings.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about day 31 and beyond. I need to reread that part of the book. I feel after my yogurt treat and creamer in my coffee on day 31..... I want to reintroduce the foods as the book states. My intent might be to follow a less strict whole 30 to allow "treats" with my family. But I feel so good that I don't want to go back to my old habits either. I think I have to find a  way to define when and why a treat and find rules to have for myself. I have plenty of more fat and inches to lose so somehow I need to adapt this new lifestyle.

Finally, you were talking about snacks. I continue to eat 2 snacks a day. Meals were not enough for me. I would eat until I was stuffed but mid-morning and mid-afternoon I needed a snack to get me through. I actually have been waiting for my stomach to start to growl. Perhaps this is a sign that I spread my meals too far apart and do too much.

amazingly, despite two bad night's sleep this week, I've found my days have been fine, not too tired, not dragging...it's good. In the past anytime I've had a short/restless night sleep I've really suffered the next day. The other thing I've foudn systematically is I don't get bad period pains when I'm Whole30ing. I thought at first it was a coincidence and then when I wasn't eating Whole30 I had bad backache...this month, nothing.

JOH: fat allowance -- I don't measure anything. I eat what I want to eat and I don't hold back on fat, neither do I go crazy. I don't ration out my far allowances. I would say eat whatever you like (within the template!) as long as it's tasty. So if you need to add mayo or avocado to your liver meal, then go ahead! If you want to add a drizzle of coriander-lemon-olive oil dressing to your lamb chops...DO IT! I think it's quite hard to overeat fat because it's so satiating...your body naturally decides that it's full enough.

trieg2000: snacks -- I snacked a lot during my first Whole30. I think it was partly to do with boredom and partly to do with the fact I was thinking about food all the time. Now on my fourth, food isn't such an obsession anymore. However, I also snacked because I was hungry. It took my ages to work out how much food I needed to eat. That's not to say I know my exact macronutrients now, but I do somehow seem to have a better handle on how much food I need to eat without really realising it. You might find that you need to up your fat intake -- perhaps this is what has changed most for me. So even though you say you eat until you're stuffed, it might be that you're not eating enough fat, which provides energy for longer. I must admit, I never feel completely stuffed after my meals, but I go all the way through most days without being hungry between meals. And I don't often get that 'I'm starving' feeling just before a meal time.

Usually the moderators encourage you to move to the post-Whole30 forum pages, just in case talking about reintro and life after whole30 confuses newbies to the forum so you could start a new topic in one of those for anyone who wants to continue.

Hello all and happy day 26 (mind...blown!)

I want breath mints with the same fervor I want oxygen. It's the weirdest craving. My mouth just doesn't feel fresh without them. I've gotten some compliant peppermint oil but the taste is WAY not the same (read:not sweet!)

I am continuing to feel very draggy and had a hard time getting out of bed this morning. Not sure what's up with that. Could be allergies - ragweed is ramping up in my area. Basically I'm not feeling my usual perky self and I don't enjoy that feeling!!!

TDC - I'm impressed that you don't get hungry between meals. According to what I've read, that means you're successfully fat-adapted!

Tomorrow is an adventure day...an all-day kayaking trip, my first since starting whole 30. I ordered some compliant beef jerky that will arrive today, so I will bring that, some cucumber slices, sliced apple, and some raw sunflower seeds to fuel me! (don't tell  my physical therapist - I'm not allowed to do anything, according to her, but we will be going with current so it won't be hard paddling and my soul NEEDS to be outside and moving)

Day 26, and Friday to boot! Looking forward to getting past this weekend, where I face the ever-present issue of managing guests and staying W30 compliant. I decided to divide and conquer and press the husband into making pizza for the kids so I can do my own food thing, without trying to make several versions of fish, etc. Like you, fran, I have been a bit draggy too. Had a bad night's sleep, which is disappointing because I was having a really great stretch there for a while. It may have absolutely nothing to do with food so I am trying to keep perspective. Interestingly, I felt like running on the treadmill when I got to the gym this morning! Let me underscore how extraordinary it is for that sentence to fly off these particular fingers; I NEVER feel like running and usually have to force myself to do so for the cardio! So I will chalk that up to an energy boost from the program!

JOH, treig, TDC, fran--hope you guys have a great weekend. 4 days to go...

Good Morning!

I must confess, I broke down this morning. It is 41 degrees outside, 60 degrees in my house and I am freezing. Thank you Mother Nature for sending us plummeting into a cold fall early, or is Elsa (from the movie Frozen ticked?) ! Anyway, I turned on my Keurig, brewed some Starbucks coffee and added coffee creamer. ......But guess what????  Mind you, this is what I have been dying for for the last 27 days, .....I took 1 sip..... and didn't like it!!!! I spit it out. The flavor was a mix of bitter and too sweet! What me? Something too sweet?! This is unheard of, I was born with a sweet tooth! Wow! I guess I will go brew some tea!

Wow Treig! Whoddathunkit? That's my yearning as well and I have been plenty tempted to add some creamer to my coffee too! So in the home stretch- ran out of fish for protein so made due with canned salmon in salad for lunch. I have to really think about what I commit to before shopping this week. Did a kickass yoga class this morning so feeling pretty proud of myself...hopefully that will keep me going through the famiy visit this weekend at my place...

Good morning Monday, 2 days to go - now feels like its gone kinda fast doesn't it? I cant help but think that this is only as valuable as the new habit I have created.  I know how many times I have done a great diet or detox only to revert back to back food choices, unhappy kilograms and low energy.  So I am nervous of the reintegration stage and determined to hang on to most of the good stuff.  WDC, I will definitely check out the post W30 forums, thanks for the good advice. I may start a new post, but will first check out what's there.  Its been super helpful having you buddies out there.

Frantastic, yes I get those low slumps randomly too, and its quite annoying, and the tired legs thing.  Though my energy is definitely much better, I don't even think about a mid afternoon nap anymore.

Treig, great story on the coffee creamer, I'm interested if you can keep off the sweet stuff, I so badly want to keep off the chocolate bingeing.  Not sure if dark chocolate (70%) which I love will keep me off the really bad milky chocolate? Treig, I think this is your last day? Congratulations!

I was interested in yesterday's daily email about coffee, I may do a Coffee30 sometime, but I am not ready for that yet.  I am tempted to extend the Whole30 a few more days, but then have to plan the reintegrated just right so I can drink wine at my bookclub next week!  And I am determined to see if its the dairy or the gluten or the soya that's a permanent no no, I have removed them all individually before but never together, so this is my chance and I dare not stuff it up!

W30Inri, trust you survived the weekend pizza, and got your hubby to do all the noncompliant cooking?  My husband won't cook at all, so guess what, everyone just has to comply!  My family has been pretty good, I have just added cheese to some of their meals and sometimes cooked rice as an extra for them.

Happy Day 29 everyone - I have booked a facial for later as my reward and to complete my clear skin look:)

Hi everyone! sorry for my radio silence. Last weekend was my first weekend Naturopathic Nutrition course...it was exhausting! Covered so much material in just two days! I didn't really have much time to think about food and what I was eating...so it's just as well that I'm into the swing of things now! The college is right next to Planet Organic which is my most favouritest shop ever now! They even do bulletproof coffee..which I didn't have since it's added butter but I will next month!

Last two days to go for me! My boyfriend booked us into a fancy restaurant for lunch on Wednesday to celebrate and say thank you for all my cooking...which is nice :-) I looked at the menu and funnily enough it looks to be mostly paleo-friendly...apart from dessert! I often find it easier to stay roughly compliant at the higher end of restaurants...I guess they don't compromise with cheap filler ingredients. I've been fantasising about all the restaurants and places I'll be able to go to after this ends, although I need to be careful because I think it was that sort of carelessness that made me put weight back on after the last Whole30!

I've joined a two week 'reset' group on Facebook run by a nutritional therapist...this is less strict and regimented than the Whole30 but just aims to eat well, train well, sleep well, and eat fermented food daily. It's going to help me stay relatively on track after the Whole30, following decent principle without being to strict on myself. It'll be good to aim to eat fermented food too, I'm not very good at doing that often enough! I'm not going to do a reintro as I feel I know fairly well what works and doesn't work for me. I will stay close to Whole30 principles during the week but be a little more relaxed at the weekends in terms of drinking and eating out. I'll stay off the wheat and gluten but not be too fussed about other grains, especially at the weekends (that doesn't mean I'll eat them daily, or even eat them at home, apart from rice maybe, but just be a little more relaxed when eating out).

Two more days to go. So I have to tell you guys that I am maybe, maybe, maybe feeling some Tigger blood this morning- not quite tiger, but I'll take it! Got up 10 mins before my alarm, woke up without a headache (thank god!), had extra time to do more weight reps at the gym and did my usual cardio. I even got to the office early, which is unheard of! So this turn of events has me thinking about the reintro process. I plan to eat more fruit (since it's apple season in N England) and add the damn natural sweetener to my coffee, since I have been kvetching about that from the start! Wine will be in there too. But I don't really feel overly crazed about other foods and would like to keep this system going for me.

JOH, if you move to the reintro forum, let me know and I'll join up with you. I, too, find this forum particularly helpful, because the husband can only stand so much of me talking about W30! And funny, I booked a facial for day 31 as well!

Have a great day! Treig, fran, all ok out there??

Hi guys - so hard to believe we're at day 29 already!! I agree...what was dragging in the beginning has now flown! I'm still feeling very tired and am not sleeping well. Not sure what is up with that. I have felt perkier during exercise though, and that has been lovely. My kayaking trip went well - we even hiked up a waterfall and I didn't get all jelly-legged.

I am going to immediately do another whole 30, so I won't be joining a re-intro forum (but would love to check in with y'all still!!!). I just don't think the good habits are ingrained enough in me yet. I am traveling to visit my mom on Thursday, so we'll have to see how that goes (from an emotional and food standpoint - oy!)
