DaintyFlower
Well, I've never been much for joining forums or group anything for that matter, but given getting myself started purely on my own internal will power, organization and fortitude has gotten me nowhere I'm going to give this a try. I'm 54, soon to be 55, and want to get my act together health-wise. Big hurdles for me as I see it: I'm in IT, travel frequently for work, don't sleep well and have an insane schedule. In addition hubby is not doing this with me, so keeping temptations away will be a challenge. I'm giving myself till the 14th to get my house in order. Rebecca H
Hi DaintyFlower, We have a bit in common -- I just turned 55, am in IT (Web development) -- and my friends nicknamed me "delicate flower" as an exercise in irony. I'm not huge on joining groups myself, as a consummate introvert, but it would be nice to have an accountability partner, someone to share ideas and inspirations, and someone to kvetch with as needed. I'm starting on Sept 13th and if you are interested in a support partner, let me know
Jenny2014
Hi Ladies- I'm planning on starting on 9/14 as well.... This will be my, oh, let's see..... 4th, Whole 30. I've done some a bit longer, which is what I plan to do this time. It's funny... I have had absolutely zero problem sticking to the Whole 30 plan... until my end date comes. Then as soon as there are "options," I seem to lose my mind and go back to eating crap. I can't quite figure out *why* this keeps happening. Except for the idea that when there are choices, it takes willpower or something, whereas when there are rules, I just stick to the rules. So sometime before the 14th, I'm going to decide exactly how long I'm going to plan this for-- probably 60 days. And then, I'm going to pre-plan my "life after Whole 30" to see if I can make it work as a lifestyle, not just a short-term thing. About me-- I'm in my mid-40s, pretty stressed out with work and home stuff, and my family (husband and teenage boy) won't go anywhere near a plan like this. They're all about the crap food (and offering it to me while I'm on program.) I'm actually looking forward to getting started! Jen
Rebecca H
Hi Jenny, I'm looking for more of a lifestyle diet as well, and would be interested in a 60 day run, if you'd like an accountability partner. I did a 4-month anti-Candida diet at the beginning of the year, which worked pretty well but not perfectly for my needs -- I think it was close, but this may be closer -- I think I have issues with grains so it will be interesting to see how I feels without them. Starting today (well, after I sleep but it's already today here) -- I need the two weekend days to get started and do some cooking before I have to go back to work on Monday. Jenny2014
Sounds good, Rebecca! Day 60 would be November 12. Does that work for you? I started today. Did fine, but I feel less prepared this time than normal. And I didn't do pre-Whole 30 weigh -in, measurement or pictures. They recommend that as a starting point. I couldn't face it, personally. I had a small sweet potato and 3 eggs cooked in coconut oil for breakfast, then I had some almonds and strawberries (not really great as I didn't add a protein), but then had dinner of zucchini and other veggies plus chicken breast with olive oil. Right after dinner I had an apple and some almond butter. Typically when I do a whole 30 I stay away from too much fruits and nuts. (because they tend to "feed" my sugar dragon.) However, I feel like I want to keep nuts and fruits in this time, if I can control it. I *already* have a challenge! I have a work dinner tomorrow night, which means that I'll be out of the house mostly from 7am -9pm tomorrow, AND will have to navigate a dinner that I know isn't compliant. So I'm going to make a salad and cook a chicken breast to take to the dinner. Not a huge deal, I've done it before, but it always leads to questions from others. I also start back to the gym this week. Well, technically I *work* at a gym, but I haven't been exercising at all. I'm looking forward to it! Hope your day is going well! Rebecca H
Great, Jenny! This is day 3 for me -- I had most of my "detox" reactions on day one. Today and yesterday haven't been too bad. I am working hard to get enough veggies into the mix because that's the hard part for me -- veggies are hard to just grab-and-go, so I have to think about preparing (or at least chopping) them ahead of time. I don't care about weight at all (I have metasticized cancer and my doctor gets cranky if I lose weight) -- so no pictures, weighing, or measuring for me. 60 days sounds great -- I'm excited about it because I am expecting a lot from this journey -- Nov 12 sounds good -- let's do it! Jenny2014
Awesome! How about I start posting in the *other* 9/14 thread, the one with more people? That'll be easier to find!
