Fruit

The recommendation is to have fruit with or immediately after your meal meals only.  A serving size of fruit is a whole piece of fresh fruit the size of your fist.  The suggestion, if you're going to have fruit, is 1-2 fruit servings a day.

It is recommended to not snack on fruit.  If you are genuinely hungry in between meals (litmus test: you could eat something bland like steamed fish and broccoli), have a mini meal containing protein, veg and fat.

There is a claim discussed in healthy eating and general internet circles that it is important to eat fruit on an empty stomach. There are warnings of terrible consequences or lost opportunities of failing to eat fruit according to the prescribed formula. The claim is a load of horse manure. :)

People sincerely believe lots of nonsense about eating and food that have no basis in fact. The Whole30 program is based upon honest science and verified by the success of tens of 1000s of people. The Whole30 recommendation to eat fruit with or immediately after a meal is not because eating fruit in combination with other foods is necessary for digestion, but because the Whole30 encourages people to eat three basic meals per day and not to snack. And while eating three times per day is a time-honored tradition of our ancestors, three meals per day also fits nicely with the natural digestion, hormonal, and sleep rhythms of the human body.
