mantishugo
Hey guys, one thing was bothering me ever since I met a friend and told him about whole9 thing. He told me that I should not drink tea (except green tea). I am not sure what explanation he gave me, all were jargons for me. So I decided to ask you... is it not recommended to follow whole9 or whole30 while having beverages like tea coffee or any canned fruit juice? GFChris
Tea and coffee are allowed on the Whole30. You just cannot put milk/cream, sugar or any sweeteners in them. On tea, you need to watch out for non-compliant ingredients like soy, vanilla extract and stevia. As far as how much, if it's decaf, there is no limit. If it's caffeinated, take a look at the Whole9 coffee manifesto for caffeine recommendations: http://whole9life.com/2011/01/the-coffee-manifesto/ Further, if you're drinking caffeinated tea first thing in the morning, the recommendation is to have your meal 1 first, as caffeine can be an appetite suppressant. Fruit juice is to be used only as a flavoring in cooking, not as a beverage. As an aside, Whole30 is the program for changing your relationship with food. Whole9 is the company that created Whole30. mantishugo
Thank you Chris, for this complete answer to my confusion. I have been using sugar free pills in my tea. Also, I used to consume half glass of Noni Juice for breakfast. I guess whole30 will make my life upside down (but in a good way). Thank you again for your time... Jinkse21
Also make sure "soy lecithin" is not listed in the ingredients as well. It's hidden in a lot of things including some green teas!
mantishugo
Hello Jinkse. Thank you for the inforamtion. I have searched for soy lecithin on some of the tea bag boxes loitering in my house and also on juice bottles, I haven't found that ingredient name. May be the company hides this ingredient from being listed out on their product, but then how can I know if my tea or any processed food isn't having soy lecithin?
