Yup thats right.  I ate em all.  And a pizza.  I'm clearly out of control, which is why I'm starting Whole 30 on Sept 8.  It's been a real tough year, and the only thing that has kept me going was being a serious competitive athlete.  I crossfit and run marathons.  Well, 2 weeks ago I herniated a disc in my back, so now the one thing that has kept me sane and helped me get through all the other super fun turmoils in life has been taken away and I can't be an athlete anymore.  So I guess in an attempt to cope with the all the loss I'm experiencing I eat, and eat, and eat, and eat some more, then run out of things to eat so I go to the store and get some more food to eat, and then I eat it all over again.  For a while now I've been on a lot of medications to deal with the stress.  Pills for depression, pills to help me sleep, pills to help me wake up, pills for appetite supressant, etc etc.  And let's just say my reproductive cycle has been out of whack for months.  I'm ready to kick all of this to the curb and hit the proverbial reset button.  (Don't worry I'm not going to stop all my medications all at once without discussing with my doctor) I dont care so much about losing weight, but I really think doing the whole 30 will restore my natural hormone balance and help me to be healthier in general, so I'll be better able to deal with all the stuff life throws at me.  So here goes nothin...wish me luck and send me happy thoughts.  I need them.

Oh Petunia! You are having a tough time! I'm new at this, too, but you seem headed in the right direction. Improvement in your food choices HAS to help improve your health.

One thing struck me from your self-description of yourself as an avid athlete. You had to work long and hard to reach and maintain your competitive level. You probably planned your workouts, hydration and supportive nutrition. Why don't you use these same skills to approach Whole30? Plan, set goals, and work hard. You are an athlete! Don't say that you are not. Maybe you are unable to compete, or even stretch right now, but you need to look forward to the future. OK, that sounds preachy.

I hope tomorrow is a better day. Look up www.theclothesmakethegirl.com. She is funny and writes about Paleo recipes, most are Whole30 compliant.

Good night!

Good luck, Petunia!  You can do this!

I have had a rough past couple of years too, with exercise related injuries, mysterious health issues that doctors can't explain, and the death of my mom, who was also my best friend.  I ate to cope too, and I wonder if all that chocolate and ice cream and other SAD foods are behind my health issues (leaky gut?).  Today finishes my first week and I'm only sorry that I didn't do this sooner.  Maybe I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but so far it's really not as hard as I thought it was going to be.  I'm more interested in getting better than in eating ice cream or drinking diet Coke.  But I do miss diet Coke...
