[email protected]
I'm coming to the end of my Whole 30, but I am STILL craving and wishing I could have sugar. In the morning when I make my coffee I want to add sugar. This afternoon my daughter was eating an ice cream cone and I think I was drooling- I wanted to taste it so bad. (don't worry I didn't) LOL And at night I want to eat Hazelnut spread right from the jar- this was an old bad habit, but I'm still craving the stuff. (Darn Nutella) So I don't know-- do I extend the Whole 30 to 45 or 60?? It troubles me I'm still looking for the sugar, and I don't know if 30 days is long enough to make a difference with my thyroid. (or if it can make a difference). I've been taking synthroid for 16 years ever since I was diagnosed. Please give me your suggestions..... Irene
GoJo09
Personally, I would continue on until you feel like you have those cravings under control. Everyone has cravings occasionally, but what you're describing is pretty extreme! Do you have coping strategies for when the cravings strike, and have you implemented new evening habits to replace your old Nutella habit? Doing that might actually help a lot, as it's not a physical need for sugar but a mental one - if you're busy doing something else every evening when you'd previously be eating treats, you won't spend your time thinking about what you're missing out on. You could start reintro of other things, but it may be the case that introducing dairy or gluten causes you to crave sugar even more.
LisaLulu
After this much time it would be a mental craving, so you probably need to have a new reward for that trigger. Before my first whole 30 I always craved a treat when I finally got to relax (when the baby napped or when the kids went to bed), it turns out I just needed something to wind down with so I replaced that habit with herbal tea. After a while I actually started craving the tea instead- a nice hot, relaxing drink that I could sit and savor and breathe in.
Brewer5
So I don't know-- do I extend the Whole 30 to 45 or 60?? If you stop now and go back to your old habits, it will get you nowhere good. If you extend your Whole 30 -- it can only do good things for your body. Do you have a food log here? If not, I highly recommend posting one here so people can give you feedback if you want it. Maybe you are eating things that are keeping your sugar dragon alive & well. Lots of fruit -- especially dried fruit, that should not even be allowed IMO -- and/or nuts, seeds, nut & seed butters -- these are all things that are potential triggers for sugar cravings on a W30. It was automatic. And let me just say it wasn't a healthy snack like an apple but something filled with bad sugar and grains. So finding another 'treat' is a really great idea. I have a huge sugar thing and so how I've handled it was to allow myself fruit as dessert at every meal. An orange, a handful of strawberries, an apple, etc. Just one serving of fruit, and so I had somethng to look forward to. That when when I had a craving, I could just say nah, gonna wait for my strawberries after dinner! I will probably work to reduce this my NEXT whole 30 and just make my goal for this one not eating the bad foods.
Angels_On_Fire
Hello, I have a slightly underactive thyroid and I had it tested in June it was 2.53, I went on synthoid and my levels dropped to 1.78 in July, then I started chinese herbal medicine, then I decided to go off of synthoid to see if the chinese herbal medicine would help with the regulation and it rose slightly to 2.47 in August. Then I did the whole 30 and my levels jumped to 2.95 in Sept! I was under the impression that the whole 30 would help but it doesn't seem to be.
