ace10
I know we are encouraged to make our own sauces but is it alright to use an organic marinara sauce I found when I am in a pinch? The brand is Walnut Acres and the ingredients are as follows: Organic Tomato Puree (Water, Organic Tomato Paste) Organic Tomatoes, Organic Onions, Organic Spices, Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Garlic, All of these seem to be compliant ingredients. Anyone ever used this for spaghetti squash?? On day 6!
GoJo09
If I found sauce without sugar I'd be all over it!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted September 8, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 8, 2014 I haven't used that particular brand, but I've used jarred marinara over spaghetti squash. It's good. Sometimes I brown a pound of ground meat and them pour the sauce in with it and let it simmer for a while, and use it like a meat sauce. And GoJo09, I don't know what it's like in Australia, but here, compliant marinara sauces have been relatively easy to find, but ones labeled tomato sauce or meat sauce almost always have something non-compliant in them. Deb.
Yep that looks totally compliant. There are a few compliant ones here in the USA. I haven't checked thoroughly, but every jar of pasta sauce I've checked has non-compliant ingredients. Passata and pasta sauce are easy though. LMar
Amy's Organic Marinara is also compliant.
cheer4mia
mario batali's tomato basil sauce is compliant, and so is prego marinara (only the marinara, the traditional and everything else has added sugar).
AmyS
Keep in mind that even within the same country there will be regional differences between products. I have found a compliant pasta sauce or three and I keep them in stock in my pantry at all times. So read your ingredient labels and when you find a good one, enjoy! Dewdrop75
I just found two compliant marinara sauces yesterday at Costco, I also used to get one at Trader Joe's.
chrissyrey
Wegmans has a store brand organic "chunky" marinara that's compliant, and pretty darn tasty! They have other compliant sauces as well.
