Wow Estrock, that sounds horrible. I know my husband gets a little defensive with me when he's eating badly. I think some times people can be intimidated because we are so dedicated to our whole30. Is this person overweight?

I work at a organic nursery / dirt store so every one there is somewhat health concise except the bookkeeper store manager who is mean to me and is not allowed to talk to me. I think the store owner is on the Paleo diet. Hang in there

I think I'm going to do a whole60 days. I originally thought I was going to do 90 days. So after the 60 days I'll have just enough time to do 12 days of food introduction before Thanksgiving and than Paleo about 90 to 95 percent of the time. I really want to looses 40 pounds and this time not gain it all back. My knees are still hurting so I know I just need more time doing this. I'm 58 so it is to be expected that it would take longer considering how badly I've been treating myself the past 10 to 15 years. Today I felt so drained and tired almost all day. I worked in my yard the past three days and I think I over did it.

I had a rash on my nose and forehead that was constantly flaking and peeling that had been there for over a year. I even went to a specialist and spent hundreds of dollars and it was still there. After only two weeks on this healthy eating plan it was gone. So just having that taken care of makes this all worth it.

One thing I will do after the 30 days is weigh and measure myself because I'm dying to see how much I've lost.

Hope every one is doing great. Can't wait to hear how everyone did after our 30 days.

So sorry Estrock!  Yeah I can't really explain the Whole30 to my friends or workmates.  They really don't understand.  One co worker told me that I was wasting away.  (I'm not.. I assure you)    They all look at me like I'm strange. lol..  I am known as the healthy one.. here at work.  I try to explain that I'm doing this because of intestinal issues, and low energy..

Stay strong!!  I agree with Cyndi Lou, sometimes people feel guilty or are reminded of their own bad eating habits when they are confronted with someone that eats healthy.  And unfortunately they lash out...

So the company I work for is owned by a couple and the woman (let's call her Ann), has made numerous comments about my "diet" ever since she asked if I wanted a piece of gum and I turned her down and she asked why.

There are often treats in my office that she provides (her and her husband live upstairs from the office so she'll bring down leftover desserts she made, etc.) every time she's brought a treat she points them out to me "Hey Erin! You want a brownie? Oh right...you're doing that thing." Or "hey, there's a bottle of wine leftover from the photo shoot today, does anyone want a glass, oh, Erin, you can't have any cause it's not included on your diet right?" It seems innocent enough but it really bugs me.

I work in a small office of 10 people so the whole office can hear these comments and I'm really not comfortable with everyone knowing my business. Especially since someone hears diet and they assume weight loss and that's not why I'm doing this but I don't really feel like getting into the whole spiel of "oh im going this because I've struggled with energy levels my whole life and I think i might be depressed and blah blah blah."

When I told her the first time (and I'm sure some people overheard) I mentioned it was for health reasons having to do with low energy and left it at that but she won't leave it alone. Yesterday, I got a little irritated because I was sending her an email and she started asking me all these questions that she knew were answered in the email and i said, "Ann, just read the email." And she said, "whoa, Erin really needs to start eating." And I got mad at her and said "you've literally made a comment every day since I've told you" and she was said "oh really? what day is this 22? I've made 22 comments?" so I left it alone.

But then today she made a big deal about how i took it personally and pretty much attacked me for bringing my "attitude" into the office. I assure you, I don't have an attitude, yes I get stressed and may be a little short with people on occasion but it's really rare. I never knew this kind of BS would be involved in doing this program, it's infuriating. Has anyone else had any negative experiences with people acting inappropriately?

Yeah that just sucks. I worked in a small company (fewer than 10 people) for many years.

This thing is almost done, but perhaps a solution is to have a direct and polite conversation. "Hey, I know that when you mention XXX you may think you're being funny and trying to connect with me. But I'm doing this program for my own personal reasons and I actually find all of your remarks offensive. Furthermore, what I choose to eat or not eat is not work related. So I'd appreciate it if we could stay on professional topics when we're here at the office. Deal?"

An alternative for other conversations is to focus on what it is you CAN eat, which is a lot, rather than the limitations.

Day 29, folks!! Hope everyone had a good weekend. I was at a friend's parents' farmhouse in PA, amidst beautiful foliage and good people. It was a challenging weekend--cases of beer, bottles of wine (two of the guests work in food and wine industries), mimosas, hot toddies, etc. Was I perfect? No. On Saturday we went to a lumberjack festival and a vendor was selling old-fashioned keg cream soda/root beer/sasparilla/etc. I don't drink soda anymore, but LOVE a good keg root beer etc. Literally never go to things like this and couldn't tell you the last time I even had a real soda (outside of ginger ale for an upset stomach), so I decided to try the whole "riding your own bike" thing and get one. So much sugar. SO MUCH SUGAR. I felt woozy, shaky, and my stomach burned for about 24 hours (still isn't 100%).

I was tempted to say my Whole30 was over right then and there and dive into all the wine and s'mores that night (a la last whole30 when it ended), but something stopped me. Probably the memory of how terrible I felt physically after the last one when I binged on sugar and carbs. But also the whole "making this thing stick" mantra. So that night, i stuck to my La Croix (fizzy water with natural flavors for those unfamiliar), drinking it out of my root beer mug so it wasn't obvious I wasn't partaking. Dinner was chili (I ate around the beans), breakfast the next day was croissaint sandwiches (I asked for one without cheese and gave the dog the bread!).

I can't say enough how important it was that I brought a lot of my own food. Breakfast on Saturday was bagels and cereal, so I quickly ate some tuna (Starkist packs in water), cherry tomatoes, and stuck a larabar in my purse. Luckily, there was a lot of fresh fruit, and I practically turned into a grape this weekend. Definitely ate too much fruit/nuts/Larabars, but this was an emergency sitch (especially when the cheese plate came out, I was legit full of raw nuts and couldn't have eaten one more bite).

Snacks I recommend:

--Larabars (the banana bread is my fave and the only one I don't find too sweet)

--Packs of tuna in water (Starkist pouches)

--Epic bars (google them, amazing)

--Single serving packs of almond butter (sucked one of these down for breakfast on Saturday)

--Cherry tomatoes

--butternut squash baby food (in a pouch from Whole Foods--only butternut squash and cinnamon as ingredients).

So, nothing 4-star, but nothing had to be refrigerated and these things didn't take up much room.

So, yes, technically a failed attempt, but I'm amazed that I didn't let my root beer turn into a spiral off the wagon, and was also amazed at how good I felt driving home yesterday (alert, refreshed, not like crap from eating crap).

Definitely a great lesson learned, and one that will be put into place this weekend when I visit my family.

I don't know how you manage just with the root beer and didn't cave and eat everything else. That really showed a lot of willpower on your side. That goes to show that the whole 30 is working for you and that you were able to make conscious choices the rest of the weekend. We are so close to the end and it's not just about the last 30 days but the rest of our lives. Making conscious and good choices when it comes to what we put into our body. Hopefully being able to indulge every now and then without completely going overboard.

Happy Day 29 everyone! I can't believe it's day 29.... I almost don't want it to be over... :( But at the same time, I'm excited to challenge myself outside the restriction of the 30 days because knowing I have the ability to resist myself, I won't have the 30 day challenge looming over my head. My boyfriend and I have decided to go sort-of paleo after - AKA not super 100% paleo where I have to make my own unsweetened almond milk, but enough where we choose almond milk over regular milk and try to abstain from at least glutenous wheat. My mom is gluten and dairy sensitive so I know avoiding these has helped me a lot and I want to keep at that, but I just know it would be very hard to follow it precisely. I think that I will be able to make healthier decisions though... and I'm excited to try Paleo pancakes, because I really miss pancakes as an occasional treat (Especially since I'm a server at Bob Evans and serve fresh hotcakes all day every day).

REMEMBER, this journey is not coming to a close for us, it is simply opening the door to a new path for our future... We've come this far, keep moving forward!

"Shoot for the Moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."

In the past 15 years I have lost the same 10, 20, 30 pounds over and over again only to gain it all back again. The last two years for me were the worst I have ever had. It all started early 2012 when our dog passed away, rehab my son from heroin, planned my older son's November wedding, my 84-year-old mom came to live with me, my sisters oldest son passed away, mom went to live with my dad in the nursing home, my mom died the following year in April 2013 from being over drugged by the nursing home, my dad passed away 11 weeks later in June of a broken heart, we downsized and bought a smaller house in July but did not sell our existing house until December, and my husband lost his job in January and is now working at Home Depot.

I'm 58 years old, 40 pounds overweight and depressed. I have high cholesterol, digestion and elimination problems and A fungal rash on my face that covered my nose and four head. I'm very emotional and I tend to over eat and drink to pacify myself. I was beginning to wonder if I was becoming an alcoholic.

So somethings got to change. In March of this year I stopped playing those mindless Computer games that waste your time. In April I quit smoking. So for the last 29 days I have not had any alcoholic drinks and have been pretty much whole 30 compliant.

As of today I don't really feel depressed anymore, The rash on my face has been gone for almost two weeks now, digestion and elimination problems are much better, and I'm not an alcoholic. I can't wait to have my cholesterol checked. Wednesday I get to measure and weigh myself. I know I have lost weight since my clothes are fitting better and I can wear clothes that have been a little tight. I'm glad I found the whole 30 and I'm looking forward to making it a whole 60.

Happy Day 30, all! No matter the slip-ups we've had, I think we can all say we've done more good than bad for our body over the past 30 days.

I'm curious about everyone's reintroduction schedule (if you plan on following one?). I'm actually reintroducing dairy today, and in two stages. Today will be cream and greek yogurt. Next week I plan to reintroduce cheese. I think I'm more sensitive to cheese than other dairy products, so I want to isolate that reason.

This Friday I plan to reintroduce non-gluten grains (corn tortillas and rice). Then on Monday I'll reintroduce black beans and hummus. I'm NOT going to reintroduce peanuts or peanut butter, or tortilla chips, as those are food-without-brakes for me.

I don't plan on drinking again until next Wednesday, when something I deem "worth it" will be in front of me. In this case, I'll be at a restaurant that has one of my favorite seasonals on draft, Shiner Oktoberfest. It's hard to get here on the East Coast in bottles, and having it on draft is just the best.

Curious as to what others will see as "worth it" moving forward?

 Yay! We're almost done!!

I will be going to the beach starting tomorrow with a bunch of friends.  It's a perfect time to be done with the Whole30.  I'll still follow the principles of the whole30 while there.. I will allow myself a treat here or there, allow myself some hard cider.    I'll probably come back and start right into another Whole30.  It may just be a Whole7 to bring myself back to clean eating from the beach.  I've not really done the reintroduction process of the Whole30 yet.  I think I'll save that for another Whole30.

My DS has been having anger issues.  He's 8.  I am suspecting it is health related. Low blood sugar/ adrenal exhaustion.   We used to be strictly gluten free when he was a baby because his diapers were horrible when he ate gluten.  As he's gotten older his digestion issues seemed to even out and the gluten seemed to not affect him.  So we added it back into his diet.   I'm wondering if the gluten is affecting him in other ways.   So the next Whole30 I'd like to do for the whole family.  As best as possible.  See if it will help my son have a better control of his anger/emotions.   Doing a Whole30 for the family will be a challenge.  Especially school lunches..  I'll have to search the forum to see if there are any good suggestions.

PaleOMG did a whole series on school lunches in August/September of this year. Not applicable to me but seemed like lots of good ideas.

Pennylane14    Thank you!!  I will definitely check that out!

Wow so we're done.  This morning  I hopped on the scale and I've lost 1 lb...  (which totally discounts the "you're wasting away" comment. :)  I really didn't need to lose weight and I didn't do the whole30 with that purpose in mind.  I know most people say they gained so much more than weight loss.. and that is also true for me.  No guilt about eating with reckless abandonment.  Boundless energy, no blood sugar roller coasters, and feeling good that I ate clean!  I love it!!  I feel like the last 30 days have been a success! :)

I hope you all had lots of success!  I've enjoyed keeping up with you throughout the process.

Now I'm off to pack for the beach...  hope to leave early today.. But knowing us,  (we never leave early for anything! lol)  It'll be late morning before we get out the door.  Have a great weekend!!!

Congrats, everyone! Would love for this thread to keep going--sharing your experience while "riding your own bike". Last year I gained about 5 lbs after the Whole 30 (and I lost 1-2 pounds while on it), so I'm going to be pretty strict in my reintroduction and off-roading to keep this from happening again.

I lost 9.1 pounds. I'm traveling tomorrow for tge next five days and will probably do more than a slow roll. I MAY do a 7 when I get home and plan to do a 30 (not a 60) in January. My areas for focus next time around will be: more portion control, more raw vegetables even if that means snacking, more water during the day. My wife lost 7 pounds, so she REALLY kicked ass!

Wow everyone has done so well I'm proud to be in a group of dedicated health conscious people. Thank you all for being so supportive during the last 30 days.

Benefits so far

Fungal rash on my nose was gone in the first two weeks

Digestive system is working so much better now, no bloating

Got my drinking alcohol under control, can't believe I went 30 days without any

OMG I lost 15 pounds it's a miracle

I went from 170 to 155, my ideal weight is 130/135. So I'm doing another Whole30 and looking forward to it.

In the next couple days I'm going to be posting before and after pictures with measurements on the success story forum be sure to check it out. But fair warning those before pictures are really gross.

Not sure if we're still keeping up with this thread, but a few successes now a week out:

Weight lost: 1 pound (which I was expecting, given how little I lost last time)

Body fat percentage: lost 2%! Huzzah!

Clothes fitting better

More energy

Better control when faced with non-compliant events and choices. Tortilla chips now have little to no hold over me, and I've managed to keep a treat from turning into a binge.

STILL haven't had any alcohol, and not planning to until tomorrow when I have my favorite Oktoberfest beer on draft. Its really changing my perspective of what I need to do to have fun (aka, not drink).
