stillearning
Does anyone know if I can have bulletproof coffee? I need my morning coffee I usually use coffee mate. Coconut milk isn't working so I've been drinking "bulletproof coffee". Is that acceptable? Coffee grassfed butter coconut oil
MeadowLily
Posted by Tom Denham I suppose you are talking about Bulletproof Coffee made with ghee and coconut oil. This drink is acceptable during a Whole30, but not as a replacement for breakfast the way many people use it. Fortified coffee does not come close to meeting the Whole30 meal template standards of protein, fat, and veggies at meal. Grassfed butter is not allowed for 30 Whole Days. MeadowLily
Moderators 4927 posts LocationAlpharetta, Georgia, USA Some people use bulletproof coffee to avoid eating food, a way to stave off hunger with fat calories and caffeine. This approach is nearly opposite of what we want you to do during a Whole30. We want you to eat a substantial breakfastwithin one hour of waking in the morning.Eating a real food breakfast when you wake up does good things to your hormonal rhythms and sets you up for better digestion and better sleep. We don't ban bulletproof coffee during a Whole30, but if you are looking to maximize your Whole30 experience, I can assure you that bulletproof coffee will not help. Butter is out for Whole30. I would wait until after your first meal to have it though as it is high in fat and could keep you from eating enough protein and veggies at your first meal. Get those first and then enjoy the coffee.
stillearning
Thank you for your reply, I have not been replacing the coffee for breakfest however I have been using grassfed butter! Xandra
When I have dairy in coffee, it means a restart for me. There isn't a way to consume butter and still get the benefits of eliminating dairy.

Ghee is the ONLY "dairy-like" product allowed, and that is because 99.9% of any possible allergens or irritants have been removed from ghee, leaving only the pure oil. Have you read the book? I am not sure what you mean about looking for replies. Can you clarify?

stillearning
Thank you Sharron and Brewer5. Sharron, I did not check follow this topic, nor did I click on my content. Brewer5, I have not read the book I read the preparation section, looked on line for recipes, used Ghee as soon as I found it. Thank you for clearifing that. Ok so I shall start over with more knowledge than before.
Xandra
The good thing about re-starts is that you have consumed less junk in the past X number of days trying to follow the program, so the physical withdrawal symptoms should be less severe than the first time around. Mentally, a re-start might mess with your head at first, but after a few days of getting back on plan, it's a matter of putting one day after the next until you are done. And done feels really good. stillearning
My thought exactly Xandra. I just discussed this with a friend. The start up should be a lot easier since I have not had suger in 7 days!
AprilS
I put a raw egg in the blender with my coffee and coconut oil and full fat coconut milk. I think is it great pre-work out fuel. We are supposed to have protein and fat pre work out, right?
stillearning
I haven't thought of adding an egg, perhaps I will try that. I have tried the coconut milk inplace of the ghee, it just isn't creamy enough. Prior to Whole30 I used Coffeemate. I miss it. Having read the "skinny" on coffeemate I will never be able to drink it again : ) Thanks for your suggestion to add the egg.
