When did you start feeling different on whole30?

I'm on day 10 now and while I've lost several pounds (I break the scale rule I know!), I don't notice many changes.  I do like this way of life, and I'm fuller than I thought I would be.  When I started, I was pretty sure I would need snacks each day, I don't.  I"m making very yummy dinners with different recipes, etc.  So its going well for me, but I notice so many others saying their skin was clearer, they had more energy, they felt happier, etc., and I just don't see it yet!

Anyone?

First, please please please hide the scale. :) Not weighing is one of the fundamental rules of the program.  Focus instead on other non-scale victories as you go through the process.

Secondly, a gentle reminder that it's a 30 day program. http://whole30.com/2014/01/whole30-tough-love/

If you want confirmation that you're on the right track, post 2-3 days worth of your food log in the Troubleshooting section.  Folks here can then review and give feedback on any potential tweaks.

I'm on day 29 of my 3rd Whole30.  I it's more or less been the same timeline for me each time.  I notice many changes for at least a week.  Then I slowly start realizing that I am sleeping so much better and deeper.  Between days 8-ish and 25ish I had some serious peaks and valleys.  Feeling really good one day, and the next i would feel horrible.  Sore, moody, tired…you name it.  But by about day 26 or so I had hit my stride and never looked back.  That is pretty much where I am now.  I feel great, sleeping like a baby, waking up feeling fresh and sharp (that is big for me because before this Whole30, I was constantly awaking in the morning feeling run down and not easily able to drag myself out of bed)

Just stick with it and be patient.   Nothing good in life comes easy.  But once you hit your stride, you'll never look back.

Thank you for sharing this!  I'm still waking up tired and just feel run down.  My legs are sore, which could be the little bit of running I started doing but I've always been a walker and sometimes a runner and it never hurt this much!  I read online that it could be toxins leaving my body and that makes me happy to think that the negative feeling is producing great results.

I'm only day 11 but I LOVE the foods that I've been having and I never thought I would look forward to my afternoon lunch of salad!  Even my dinner of hamburger (no roll, no cheese) has me excited because I'm going to make it on a bed of spinach and I can't wait to try the spinach cooked in coconut oil.  I'm such a dork :)

My breakfast (and lunch) have kept me full for HOURS ... I used to get hungry every 3 hours like clockwork....but force myself to not eat for 5 hours, and be starving and make poor decisions.  Now?  I can eat breakfast at 8, lunch at 1, dinner at 6 and then not eat again until morning most days.

I have some moments of weakness.  One night my husband had chips near me and well I almost cried.  Yesterday was a rainy Saturday evening and I craved a beer so bad!  Today will be difficult because from 1pm-8pm, I will be on a baseball field or soccer field.  I will eat lunch at 12:30 and bring a mini meal with me...even cold its better than being starving, finding weakness and eating junk at the snack shack.

Im rambling....

Your username suggests a possible reason for feeling tired.  If you have three young children in your care, you may not be getting optimal sleep, and there may be very little you can do about that for a few more years.  In that case, making sure your eating is clean and that you're not exercising when you are beyond tired will help.  But some of us just have to wait for the little strangers to grow up before we get a full night's sleep.

Again, if you want some more specific pointers on the food/energy connection, you can post a couple of days' worth of meals here for input.

Hide your scale and flaunt your wonderful meals, and sleep when you can.

The first time I did this, last year, I didn't finish. I was exhausted and cranky to the point of having to isolate myself from friends so I wouldn't be mean.  This time, I have felt none of those symptoms.  I had no carb withdrawal, totally quit caffeine at the same time and felt only a headache on one day. Mostly I have had great even energy, slept very well, and feel much more upbeat and focussed than before in just a week.  The difference between this time and last time is my diet.  I didn't include enough healthy fats and starchy veggies the first time, because I was trying to lose weight. Bad idea!  I have been training of a 1/2 marathon and have had plenty enough energy to run and workout without any grains. Take a look at your diet and make sure you are getting some potatoes, squash, olive oil, almond butter, avocados... those are the things that really made this experience polar opposite of the last time.

I hope that helps, and stick with it, I have never heard anyone say they were sorry they did this!  Only that they look and feel SO much better!  It's worth a try and you're already a week in.  ;)

Good luck!

I'm on  Day 29 and I have stuck to the programme exactly. I felt great from day 20 to 27, but have had headaches and niggles for the last couple of days. Disappointed I've not finished with a bang!! However, it's been a positive experience over the piece. I've planned the reintro carefuly, as I don't want to ruin all the good work.

Day 1. I felt different because my relationship with food was jolted into a wake-up call on the very first day. The relationship can have a more profound impact over time than the physical effects of withdrawal, which were severe the first time, but now I know what to expect so I guess they don't hit so hard.

lol my kids are 6, 8 and 10 so not necessarily waking me up anymore.  I tend to get 8 hours of sleep but on day 15 and still so so tired :(

Have you posted your food anywhere to see if you can get some feedback?

At Day 10 you had reported "losing several pounds" already -- which you shouldn't know, of course.  I wonder if you are eating enough overall.  Are you getting plenty of fat with each meal?  Are you having a starchy carb each day?
