prairieportia
Ok; I know it's a 30-day program. And I know weight loss is not the only goal. And I know the things I need to do to "perfect" my Whole 30 (more water, more sleep, less fruit, fewer nuts and seeds). I am also still nursing my seven month-old. But STILL!!! I am on day 19, have been compliant, have been working out more, and according to the scale at the doctor's office today, I have GAINED WEIGHT. I am 5'4", 158 lbs--would like to be 135. I really thought the first ten (getting me back to pre-baby weight) would come off easily with this. Grrr. I could use some encouragement.
missmary
That is why you don't weigh yourself during the whole30. Body weight is impacted by lots of factors and doesn't come off in a linear way. You might have had food in your intestines busy digesting; you might have been retaining a little extra water as your muscles repair from hard exercise; you might have been constipated or bloated or engorged with milk for your little one and any of those things could have been literally weighing you down. Relax. give yourself time and grace to try this thing for 30 whole days.
prairieportia
Ah yes. Time and grace. Working on it. Thank you for the support and encouragement.
Shelli
My docs office is always heavier than my at home scale. Therefore wrong.
AprilS
Well, just a heads up. I finished W30 and while I am grateful for all the positives, I did not lose weight. I do not want to discourage you. Just to let you know I think I could have been more careful with portion size and snacking. I did not cheat ever, but still think I overate healthy food. So, I am continuing on to a W60 to practice portion control and awareness of hunger and fullness. I wish you all the best!

I'm right there with you, April - just remember, gaining health and losing weight are not necessarily linear!
AmyS
Please, nursing mamas, do not eat less. (Those who are not nursing, you're on your own). Scales are not anyone's friend. When I finally gave away my scale to a scale-addicted friend, I stepped on the one I had given and the one that was already in friend's house. I weighed more on one scale than another. I abso-freakin-lutely did NOT gain weight between one scale and the next. Also, a heartfelt amen to missmary. And another plea for nursing mamas to eat up. And recognize that you will sleep someday, just maybe not today. All power to you. My twin daughters nursed until 3 1/2 and while I didn't have Whole30 back then, I sure needed to eat insane amounts of food. Carry on, and forget the blankety-blank scale.
