How's It Going? Forum?

I can't find a place for general progress comments, so I'm putting this here AND suggesting a "blow by blow" forum where we can just give our impressions. Good idea? I really don't feel stuck, just wanted to ramble a little . . .

Anyway, I'm on day 18, and it's going generally very well; I haven't had anything known to be a violation of the restricted list, I'm feeling very good, although not exactly bursting with energy, and my previous knee and general arthritis pain is just about gone. I'm wearing a pair of 34 waist Levis because my 36 and 38 waist ones just fall off, and I had to add a belt to keep them from sliding down, and then take up a notch on it with the new pants.

Having said that, I would have LOVED to go out and get my favorite pesto/parmesian bagel with bacon/chive cream cheese this morning, so I'm still thinking about things like that and pepperoni pizzas a lot. I don't see that going away really, that's one fine bagel/cream cheese combination. Should such cravings drop off at some point? Hard to believe, and it certainly hasn't happened yet.

The single biggest distraction is thinking of something to drink that isn't water, black coffee or water with lemon or lime in it. I know that's telling me I didn't drink enough water before, and that generally I'd drink or eat something else instead.

I am on day 18 too and right about where you are!  I feel good but am not bursting with energy.  Then again, I am going without caffeine for the first time in probably 20 years, so this is better than expected, I'd say!  I am fitting easily into pants that were too snug a few weeks ago.  AND I am still thinking about my old vices - ice cream, chocolate, etc.  But I'm not really craving them, just thinking about them, and I suppose that is okay.

I know what you mean about drinks, I am BORED with water!  But I don't like coffee and tea is okay but I never feel like drinking it, so...water it is.

Mostly, those things end up over in the Your Whole30 Log section, I think, or sometimes the Join the Whole30 section -- if you want to look around and see what others are saying.

As far as drinks, you can make infused waters -- slice fruits or vegetables or crush some fresh herbs, put them in a pitcher, fill it with water, and let it sit for a few hours -- it will take on the flavors of whatever you've put in it.  I like slices of cucumber and lemon in mine. Strawberries are nice. If you google infused water, you should find lots of other ideas. Of course, plain water is always best, but sometimes it's a little boring, and if you're bored enough with it that you're not drinking enough, it can be nice to have other options.

Thanks everybody, I appreciate the feedback. Hopefully feeling good will trump eating those things. I might just carry on at the end of the first 30 days, depending on how I'm feeling about the worst of the temptations. Good luck to all ! ! !

I second the Kombucha, so many compliant options.  Also, I 'water down' my kombucha with sparkling water since I try to stretch a bottle over 2-3 servings. It's super tasty and really pretty in a tall glass with ice.  Also iced teas: black, herbal, green. I find I much prefer green tea iced rather than hot.  Tazo Passion tea is so good iced and sometimes I mix that with sparkling water if I want something fizzy.

I'm on Day 24 and I never stop thinking about pepperoni pizza. I think that a love of pizza is not something that one can overcome, even on Whole30!  :)

Day 24 and feeling sort of let down; energy is low, but some of that is emotional, there are some things going on. Around day 16 or 17 I had a really good day, but that's been it for "feel good" time. Pluses are my sense of smell seems more acute, my joint pain is pretty much gone after my morning "bend and stretch", but otherwise not a whole lot of "magic".

As they say, everybody is different. Once next Wednesday rolls around I guess I'll decide to call it finished or keep on for a while.

I wonder that too about cravings.  I am totally a salt person and I can't imagine that going away.  I can imagine being mindful and not eating the junk I want but a lifetime of eating salty food cannot be changed in 30 days.  And I would agree that your bagel cream cheese combo sounds mighty tasty right now.
