TinaH
I tried searching for the answer, but couldn't find it. I'm wondering if I eat meat that has high fat, do I count that towards my fat portion for the meal? Ex: if I eat tri tip. Or if I make a crockpot stew with a roast and veggies and don't cook off the fat ahead of time or drain the fat. What made me think of this is that I just ate an Aidelle's sausage with my 2 egg and veggie omelet (yum!) and noticed that 1 sausage has 13g of fat! I felt hesitant to add more fat to my meal. Newbie here, and trying to change life-long thinking about what I eat. Thank you!
GFChris
Hi there, and welcome! This topic has been previously discussed in at least these threads: - http://forum.whole9life.com/topic/14330-too-much-fat/ - http://forum.whole9life.com/topic/16406-meat-fat-vs-cooking-fats/ Forum search tip: search from Google. Type Whole30 followed by whatever you're looking for. I did "Whole30 meat fat" to get links to the above threads. Part of changing your thinking is letting go of fat grams. Focus on satiety. Follow the recommended meal template for each meal, and play around with your protein, veg and fat portions to get your meals to satiate you for 4-5 hours. Brewer5
The answer is going to be: It depends. Pay attention to how you feel after the meal you just ate. (And other example meals.) How long do you stay full and satisfied? You've got fat in the sausage, fat in the eggs, and I'm guessing you used some sort of fat in the skillet to cook your omelet. If you can go another 4-5 hours without feeling hungry, then you know that you had that meal put together correctly. If not -- you will know for next time that you need to add more fat. That could be from another egg, more cooking fat, 1/2 avocado... whatever, point is: A lot of this is trial and error.
TinaH
Hi GFChris - thank you for the search tip - I had tried "meat fat" in the forum search and it only gave me results for "meat". Then tried just the word "fat" and an error message told me that search term is not allowed! Now, I may be new but I'm pretty certain fat is welcomed rather than taboo Thank you Brewer5! I just ate my lunch late (6 hours after breakfast) but my stomach wasn't grumbling. So I guess my breakfast was great!

Fat is most welcome here.
