First time I've felt old

First time I've gained weight rather quickly

First time I haven't been able to lose it

First time I've realized I have an unhealthy relationship with food

First time I learned about the Whole30

First time writing in a public forum about me and my experience

First time I cook real meals

First time I'm truly committing to 30 days of clean eating..........

To Get To

First time I haven't craved a mid-afternoon snack

First time I don't think about dinner three hours before it comes

First time I've lost weight by just what I eat

First time my gut has the chance to recover from years of abuse

First time I'm successful at sticking to a program involving food

First time I have energy and don't feel tire midday

First time I'll stick with a program beyond it completion

I'm Kristin.  I'm 33.  And as you can see - I'm starting a lot here.  I'm super excited to get going on Wednesday.  That will be my first day and I'm counting on everyone on the forums for inspiration, support and encouragement.

I think that if I track what I eat and how I'm feeling I will learn a lot about all of the little pains and quirks that I've been having that got me to start this journey.

I'll post my starting measurements tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Today is Day 1.

I couldn't be more ready and excited to start this journey.

The past few weeks I just stopped caring what I ate and I haven't seen the gym in over a month.  The past week I've been eating everything that I knew that I wouldn't be able to eat for a month and some stuff I don't want to eat ever again.

And I feel terrible.  I am bloated, none of my clothes fit, I feel tired all of the time, I have no motivation.  I need this change.

I'm tired of caving to impulsive food cravings.  I'm tired of not feeling good in my on shoes.  I want to feel confident in my body.

I'm writing this so I remember exactly how crappy I feel right now so that when I want the brownie or the fried food I remember this is how I will feel.

I don't want to feel like this again.

And I won't.  I'm committed to this program and I think I'm going to like how I feel. :)

Week 1 - Check

I made it through the week.  And it was way easier than I ever thought it would be.  I've tried Weight Watchers, I've tried counting calories, I've tried a food journal, and I've tried a strict body builders meal plan.  They all ended up the same - fail.

There is something so different about this program.  I am not constantly thinking about what I'm giving up.  I've dived in and learned how to cook which is a first and I love finding new recipes of the foods that I love.

I can't believe how quickly my sugar cravings have subsided.  I still get them here and there but they used to rule my life.  I would have to have some sort of chocolate right after lunch and dinner.  No I get a pang after lunch but I know I'm not really hungry.  Nights have been easier that I thought.  I was eating a bowl of ice cream every night and I don't even miss it.

I'm excited for the next three weeks.  I'm already not bloated and my pants are fitting better.  I'm going to work my exercise regimen in next week for more results.  I have a feeling that the dedication and will power I have with Whole30 will show in the gym (or getting to the gym).

I can't wait to update everyone when I've successfully finished the Whole30!

  • 3 weeks later...

Here I am in the final stretch.  Wow!

That is truly all I can say.

I'm two days away from completing my first Whole 30.  And I say first because yes, I'm going to do it again next year.  I can't rave enough about this program.  I was really at a low point with food before starting the book and this program and now I feel like I really have control and don't have to miss out on a lot of food.

Food no longer runs my life.  I don't have impulsive cravings or afternoon crashes.  And I know that I sound just like everyone that has completely a Whole30.  I didn't quite believe all the hype when starting just hoped for the best but I've drank the Koolaid.  I'm all in.

I've made the decision to pretty much stick to a Paleo diet in the future.

I'm healthy, I'm happy and I'm excited about the future.

  • 2 months later...

Well that high last about two weeks.  Halloween came and I fell off the wagon and then of course the holidays.  Here it is January 5 and I'm starting my SECOND Whole30.  Except this time I'm going to extend it to 90 days.  Full-fledged for the first 30 and may add a tiny bit of alcohol in the last 60.  I'm not a big drinker - I do enjoy a nice red wine with dinner some nights though.

I'm also going to do more this time around.  The first time - I wanted to see if I could lose weight and feel better by just eating.  I did amazingly.  I've never experienced that before.  This time I'm going to get back in the gym with a 12 week program and I want to log all my meals.

Here we go.....
