decker_bear
I read through previous posts and I don't feel like I got a straight answer. Dairy kefir - out for obvious reasons. Water kefir - yes if you don't have a sugar dragon. I think I have a two-headed Sugar Dragon and it breathes sugar flames and when it burns you, you taste like sugar. What about coconut water kefir? I'm assuming yes, provided there's no added sweeteners (and there is absolutely NOT in mine, it's actually disgusting and I have to force it down) so I'm assuming I'm good to go, but just want to be sure. Day 1 and ready to rock and roll!

decker_bear
I went Paleo a few months ago, and about 4 or 5 weeks ago started developing some tummy troubles (I'll spare you the details). I rode it out, hoping it was just my gut healing itself. When it became all but unbearable I decided to try a probiotic (enter coconut kefir). I've also toyed with the idea of making homemade sauerkraut, but the coconut kefir was already ready already. In the 5 days I've been drinking it I've already started to notice some improvement so I really wanted to stick with it and see what happens. Sleeve
I don't think sauerkraut and kimchi are things you would need to force down. Wouldn't it be more enjoyable to get your bacteria from something you like rather than subjecting yourself to penance? Bubbie's will fix that bummed out belly. Guest Andria
Kombucha, too! Yummy and no need to choke down. GT's has plenty of great tasting compliant flavors (i.e., no sugar added after fermentation)
decker_bear
Funny you mention sauerkraut - I started a batch this weekend and I can't wait to try it. I keep hearing about Kombucha, maybe I'll have to give it a shot. Is kombucha something you can make or is it something that has to be store bought? mom2knb
Found this post looking for an answer on water kefir made with fruit juice... just to clarify - It is OK as long as sugar cravings aren't an issue? I have been making and drinking water kefir for a while now and can definitely feel a difference in my system when I don't have it for a few days. We ferment ours for 48 hours (if you are familiar with the process). I'm on day 6 of my first whole30 and have a pretty tame sugar dragon that only rears his head at night when I would normally be having a bowl of ice cream. I also have a house with no tempting junk and a supportive hubby who is also doing a whole30 with me Should I go ahead and still have the kefir or wait till the sugar dragon goes away (or will it go away??) TIA for advice!!

I tried some for the first time this weekend (GT's brand, Original flavor) and it was delicious!
