Moderators ShannonM816 Posted October 11, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 11, 2014 Thanks Shannon for your reply! Will definitely get myself some of the recommended olive oil for making mayo with tomorrow. I'll document and observe a bit more closely, but I think I handle a handful of nuts OK so that's good for me. In regards to coconut cream and fruit (which I used to love and have as a sweet treat during non Whole 30 times; however this time round finding it a bit different and not as great as I remember), does this really need to be eaten with the meal? I know viewing it as dessert is not ideal (which is why I hadn't eaten it until I saw your post) but if you've kicked the Sugar Dragon's butt, can it be eaten after a meal? Partly because I enjoy it that way, and partly to appear more normal at the dinner table! I know we're allowed to have fruit, and I presume if someone is eating an apple they aren't going to just have a bite then have some of their main meal, then bite the apple again. What cheer4mia said above. I think I just tend to eat fruit with my meal for a couple of reasons -- one, because sometimes I just like the sweet/salty combo, and two, because although my sugar dragon is currently dormant, I know how easy it is to wake it up and how hard it is to get it back to sleep again once I do, so fruit as a stand-alone thing just seems like a bad idea to me, in my situation. Kdweb2
thanks for the great advice! Yeah, I don't want to wake up my sugar dragon either, they're such a pain to deal with. So lucky for me it's exam time, so I haven't been out and had to Whole30 my way through a restaurant. But next week (still within Whole30) I have a family birthday dinner, and we're going to a restaurant. I'm extremely hesitant (and maybe a tad paranoid) about going, but my immediate family is supportive so it should be OK. Partly concerned about sticking out (but at least that's only temporary) and partly concerned about ordering as best I can and ending up with something non-compliant... it also looks like it's going to be Thai, which I feel is especially tricky. Hoping I can just order some fried veggies & plain fried chicken...any extra advice? I'm going to find out the place we're going so I can look ahead and call them if need be. Hope everyone's pumped we've made it through 2 weeks!

Kdweb2
Thank you! My relatives know to let me know where we're going soon so I can sort myself out, so at least I will be supported by them

laurenlgraf
Congrats everyone on the halfway mark! I celebrated last night with a delicious complaint meal from Texas Roadhouse. They have the best plain sweet potatoes! How is everyone feeling at this point? I am definitely very energized and have been having great workouts! Still not seeing much of a change in my body/don't feel like I'm losing weight, but I hope that it's coming in these next 16 days for me (I'm technically doing a whole 33 because I'm going through Oct. 30). lisalisa333
I'm feeling great and sleeping so well! Can't believe we're over half way- I don't believe I've ever stuck to anything this long One of the biggest differences I've noticed, besides no cravings, is improved sleep. I have a FitBit, and before I started Whole30, I would wake up throughout the night, and moved around a lot. I was able to see my minutes of restlessness go from 17 a night to 2. I feel so good! kirkor
On the downhill slope, baby!! I think I might keep the 'no added sugar' part going at least past the sales on Halloween candy.
Kdweb2
3 weeks down! Can't believe how fast it's gone and how great I feel Feeling a bit edgy about going out for dinner this Friday night...apparently we're all doing the banquet, but I'd rather just inquire about one meal and eat that without being an annoying customer asking questions over every meal...hopefully this doesn't seem like a big deal to the rest of my family...location is yet to be decided, which isn't helping my apprehension :/
laurenlgraf
I think I might keep the 'no added sugar' part going at least past the sales on Halloween candy. I was just telling a friend how I'm so excited that I finish up right before Halloween candy goes on sale I definitely will buy some to celebrate being done with the Whole30, but will have to really have to limit myself and keep practicing this self-control I've been managing all month! laurenlgraf
Well I had to have an unexpected medical procedure this morning that made me really sick, so I had to take the day off of work. I picked up a pint of ice cream and crawled into bed to feel better, so I guess I'm officially off the Whole30. I'm not going to restart and I will still going to finish out the rest of the 30 days like I planned since I was SO close, but I will have to say that I didn't do it completely. I'm kind of bummed, but today I really just needed that comfort food. I hope everyone else's Whole30 is still going strong! You are all so close! Kdweb2
Hey Lauren, Hope you're feeling better. That's understandable, I think it's great you're choosing to continue your 30 days. I had a BBQ yesterday and made my own delicious chicken and veggie skewers and stuck to those and the fruit (despite the mountains of homemade goodies!) I had hoped the oil would be compliant but didn't check, as I was going to eat the skewers either way. I saw later it was canola spray which would have been fine except it had soy in it. I know soy is definitely not Whole30 but I guess I chose to pretend it didn't happen...or to continue my Whole30. Starting over just isn't an option, I timed this Whole30 and the reintroduction period to finish up right before I go away for a month. So I though to myself yesterday "say it's over and eat all the cakes? or just keep it up and make this (the soy in the oil) where I draw my line?"I am pleased to say I've been in contact with the restaurant where I'm going tomorrow night and have settled on fish just fried on its own, and some veggies or a salad. Again, I won't be asking about the oil. On the one hand, it feels indulgent to be super picky when I don't have any diagnosed intolerance, but on the other hand, I won't know I have an intolerance if I don't do the Whole30 properly...and if a tiny amount is enough to set off an allergic reaction in one person, it makes sense a tiny amount could set off a mild unpleasant reaction in me (is my Tiger Blood lacking because my routine is all over the place, or because I ingested a little bit of something off plan?) I'm kind of just rambling to myself here, would love to hear anyone else's thoughts Have to admit, I am glad it's only 5 days left! But I am keen for reintroducing food groups one at a time to see if anything really bothers me. Hope everyone's having a lovely day 25!

laurenlgraf
Kdweb2, I did the same thing lining up my whole30 with my schedule so restarting wasn't an option. I'm glad you made the decision to stick it out for the last couple of days rather than just giving up and eating all of the desserts that were calling out to you! I am personally doing the whole30 to get myself into a place where I can eat healthier and made better decisions about what I am putting into my body, rather than for a medical condition or something along those lines. As much as I would love to do the full 30 days 100% compliant, it seems to be impossible with my schedule sometimes. If you have something not compliant by mistake, such as a little bit of soy, all you can do is make the decision to not let it bother you and be more careful for your next meal, the next several days, etc (maybe don't go out and eat pints of ice cream during the 30 days, whoops ). I can't imagine having a little bit of soy is going to ruin the entire whole30 experience for you! I don't know if I necessarily have felt the Tiger Blood so much either and I really have been sticking to it and asking about ingredients when I go out to eat, but oh well! All I can do is finish out the 30 days and have that feeling of accomplishment and hopefully make good decisions once this is all over! Enjoy these last 5 days! Almost there! lisalisa333
Feeling great on day 27!! This has been much easier than I ever expected. I can honestly say that I've never stayed on track with any eating plan for this long! And I still don't have strong cravings for any junk. The farther I get into this plan, the more I realize that the cravings I used to have are all mental, and I can work through them, because giving in just isn't worth it. I'm a little nervous about day 31...I think I'd like to stay Whole30 at least 90% of the time going forward. Like allow for something off-plan once every 10 days or so.. I feel too good to go back to eating like I did before. Anyone having any crazy food cravings you'll indulge on day 31? The only thing I want right now is Coke Zero. lisalisa333
What I learned on day 31 - NOTHING is worth it!!!! Forget reintroduction, for me it's Whole30. Today, I was looking forward to a dessert and a diet soda. I had a headache after the soda, and after the italian meal with dessert for dinner, I feel DISGUSTING - migraine, bloated, just gross Can't imagine working any of that crap back into my diet. Lesson learned. Looking forward to eggs and veggies for breakfast!
