Whole30 Meal Prep- Planning a month in advance! Any suggestions?

Hi All!

I'm starting my second Whole30 on November 3rd. I wish I would've started today, but my lack of planning caught up to me, and I know how much cooking/planning goes into it. I didn't think starting today and planning later would be a good idea. I like to start my Whole30 on a Monday after payday, buy two weeks' worth of food from that paycheck and do the same two weeks later to get me through. Next payday I'm out of town, so four weeks from now is my start date.

The last time I did a Whole30, I was shocked at how much time I spent in the kitchen each night! I want to try to avoid that (as much as I can; I know I can't totally avoid it ha) so I'm hoping to do some serious meal prep on Sunday, November 2nd and freeze a whole bunch of ready-to-make meals. I'm generally occupied with work and coaching until 6-6:30 every night, and the baby goes to bed at 8:00. We gotta have supper sometime in there, so my 60-90 minutes cooking each night for Whole30 won't fly this time around. I actually really enjoy cooking, so that wasn't a big deal last time...but I also wasn't coaching then, and the baby wasn't mobile then, so I have a lot less time to spend in the kitchen now. I'm envisioning hot meals 4-5 nights a week, with a couple salads in there on off days. I mean, take-out-of-the-freezer-the-night-before-and-toss-in-oven-when-I-get-home kind of hot meals. Ready made, all it needs to be cooked deals. Am I setting my sights too high??

Any suggestions on recipes, foods to buy, etc.? The good thing about giving myself a month before starting is that I can buy SOME things while they're on sale over the next four weeks...and freeze it for later. My downfall last time was less-than-smart produce buying. I feel like a threw A LOT out because I didn't use it soon enough.

I'm really looking forward to it this time around, now that I know what to expect. I'm also going to start slowly cutting those non-compliant foods out of my diet now so there's less of a system shock too...another plus of doing this a month down the road!

I'd love to hear what you do for your extensive meal prep!

I typically do 2-3 extensive meals per week that require 1-2 hours of prep and cooking (like I said, I like to cook! I made potato-leek soup from Farmer's Market leftovers last week- noncompliant but delicious!) but that's because I'm only coaching 3 days a week right now. Come November, it'll be 5 days a week.

On my coaching days, we order take out (I know, I know) or my husband cooks. My husband refuses to do W30! Basically what I do on a W30 is cook my meals and he modifies them to be compliant if he can (buns and store-bought BBQ sauce with crockpot pulled pork, regular noodles with spaghetti squash and meatballs, etc) or he doesn't eat what I cook at all. He also doesn't cook very in-depth so I doubt he'd take the time to make compliant meatballs and spaghetti sauce :-) We eat leftovers for lunch the following day so leftovers generally aren't left by the time supper rolls around the next day.

Can you cook on Sundays? That's what I found worked for me when I had busy weeks. Spend most of Sunday cooking and prepping.

Shepherd's Pie is a great one to freeze and reheat. The paleo "lasagnas" would be good too. Some of the chili recipes are fantastic.

Both Nom Nom Paleo and The Clothes Make the Girl I believe have month long meal plans listed.

You can also search for "freeze" on their websites.

Yeah! I had planned to prep on Sunday, Nov 2 and again on Nov 16 and hopefully make 8-10 freezer meals each time. I was looking for good meals to make and freeze...thank you!

I just realized that I'll be at the end of my W30 over Thanksgiving- welp! Hopefully I'll have the tiger blood by then!
