Odd 'smokers' cough?

Recommended Posts

I've had a chesty cough since about day 2 or 3 (I'm on 19 now). I didn't think anything of it, but now I'm wondering if it's how I'm experiencing sugar/wheat detox?

I haven't had headaches, carb flu etc. The cough is similar in nature to the one I had when I stopped smoking. I cough a few times a day and it's quite phlegmy (sorry tmi!). It's not a bothersome cough.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Or is it totally unrelated...

I am on day 22 and am having the same experience. I thought it was odd since nothing I am eating is a typical trigger for a few congested coughs each day for the past few days.

You are probably right about it being some sort of detox. I have some metal toxicities and I know some of it was in my lungs, so I did have some congestion and coughing prior to this whole30. It stopped as I took solutions to move the metals out. Now it's back again and I'm wondering if it's aluminum since I'm eating canned coconut milk and tuna much more regularly because if the whole30.

I'd love to know what others are experiencing and think about this, too!

I used to add two cups of coconut milk to tea and shake in a mug. I'd drink this in the a.m. to stay full. Unfortunately, it would make my throat itch and I'd cough a little. I stopped, but recently made that again since I'm travelling and in need of quick tricks. My throat got itchy and I got cough-y once again. The brand I'm using (whole foods 365) has Guar Gum, which some people have reported as an irritant. I can't recall if this also happened to me with Arroy-D which has no Guar gum.

Not sure if you guys are drinking a lot of coconut milk, but I thought I'd throw this out there as food for thought ;). Hope you detox it or figure out the trigger soon!

So glad to find this post! I've been scouring the boards to see if anyone else had experienced a phlegmy cough. I'm also a little wheezy at night. Not sick or asthmatic. Definitely feels like a detox of some kind to me, but it's the first time I've had something like this, though I've gone off sugar before. Never did sugar, PUFAs grain and dairy all at once before so maybe it's just a little more dramatic! (hack, hack wheeze!)

I got sick around that time in my W30. It was brutal bc I quit coffee as part of my personal plan and went through hell with that, felt good for about a day, then got sick for a week. It was maybe allergies, but very bad (my neck was constantly wet) and I don't normally get them at that time. (I usually have them now, and I don't. Yay.)
