First Whole30 - DONE and only 1 pound down!

Recommended Posts

I finished my first Whole30 Wednesday, Oct. 22.  I feel great, my pants are looser, and I've had no real desire to eat "less healthy" foods and have pretty much stayed Whole30-ish since finishing.  Aside from all of this, I did not lose weight.  I think I lost 1 pound.  I'm just curious, I read all these success stories about people losing 10, 15, 20 pounds, is it common for some not to lose any?  I do CrossFit about 5x a week so I know that I am probably gaining muscle and probably lost inches.  All of this is great and awesome and I really have no complaints.  But sometimes that pesky scale can be discouraging and when it says I've only lost ONE pound, it just makes me curious.  Thoughts?!

Hi - There are a lot of us who haven't lost weight.  Some even gain weight.  The thing is to decide if the other benefits are worth it and then focus on those.  It sounds like you had a great W30 despite the scale.  Maybe it's time to ditch the scale?  (take with a grain of salt, as I have not been able to do that!)

Context matters. Most of the people you see reporting weight losses of 10+ lbs are severely overweight, come from an extremely poor diet, and/or are men. I still have body fat to lose but never really drop more than 3-5 lbs when I do a Whole30.

Jen is right about the scale. Even if you keep it around to check in (I would suggest no more than once a month) there are lots of better ways to gauge your health and body composition gains.
