angledge
Ingredients: 1 lb. ground beef 1/2 cup chopped onions 2 cloves minced garlic 1 x 4 oz. can chopped mushrooms OR 6-8 chopped fresh cremini mushrooms <-- I prefer fresh 1 x 15 oz. can tomato sauce 1 x 6 oz. can tomato paste 1 x 28 oz. can whole tomatoes OR 1 qt. jar of canned tomatoes 4 tsp. oregano 2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. marjoram 1 tsp. thyme 1/4 tsp. black pepper 1 bay leaf water to thin if necessary OPTIONAL: 4 links of complaint Italian sausages (I prefer sweet but hot works too) Directions: If you're adding sausages, cook them in a frying pan for ~10 minutes over medium-high heat. Throw everything into the slow cooker. Cook on LOW for 6 hours. Stir several times during the cook, making sure to break up any chunks of ground beef so that it cooks all the way through, & to break up the whole tomatoes. After 6 hours, taste the sauce & adjust the seasonings. OTHER VARIATIONS: This is a very forgiving sauce. You can add a ton of mushrooms. You can add diced bell peppers. You can add sliced black olives. You can add artichoke hearts. You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef. It's all good. This sauce is very tasty served over spaghetti squash.
