Help please, IBS, bloody stool

Recommended Posts

I've had IBS for a long time. I've tried different medicine, sought advice with different doctors, tried many diets, etc. I am still learning and identifying what foods cause the bloating on me, and I know dairy, gluten and nuts are a bomb, it makes my tummy so bloated, like if I was 9 month pregnant.

MY CONCERN, WORRY, HELP: I've been pooping blood for a while, let's say, it's been one year since this symptom appeared. It doesn't happen every day. When it happened the first time I went to the doctor cuz I was scared. Doctor told me I needed some stool samples to be studied, to see if there was a bacteria, etc. They examined my poop, found nothing. The thing is this doctor couldn't really helped me, he said I needed to seek for an specialist advice. Then blood poop dissapeared for some months, then appeared again, then dissapeared, then appeared. This last month at least 5 times I did poop blood. I don't want to think I am going to die or I have colon cancer or something... actually today I am going to talk to my dad to see if he can help me with money to go to a Colon specialist doctor, cuz I know these studies will be expensive. I just want to know if some of you had the blood and dissapeared, or what can be causing it, etc.

I am also afraid I am a stressful person, I stress about everything, it is the way I am. I teach in high school and university about 40 hours a week, plus preparation of classes at home, and sometimes I am very stressed. I wonder if this could be some of the things that triggers this. I some times have anxiety too. I try to exercise 5 or 6 times a week to relax. But I am planning to start doing yoga. Any advice please?

I am so sorry you ate going through this tough time. Have you looked into a naturalpath or integrative doctor. Unfortunately a regular doctor may not be able to help. It could be SIBO (small intestine bacteria overgrowth) or a candida overgrowth or an autoimmune disease. I am going to assume that you need to heal your gut. Check out the digestive sessions. Although this ended, if you scroll all the way down to the bottom you will see the list of experts that were interviewed, search them through google and maybe one of them is in your area or can help you find a doctor. http://digestionsessions.com/order/. Good Luck!

While an integrative or naturopathic doctor can be beneficial to look at one's health holistically rather than each problem as an individual entity, I think it would be remiss to steer the OP to see one before getting the "all clear" from a "regular" doctor and a colonoscopy. Many of us are quick to bash "regular" doctors, but a naturopathic doc isn't going to be able to perform a colonoscopy, ever.  Not to scare the OP into thinking he/she has colon cancer, but a scope would be the only to way to rule that out(and biopsy could rule in/out celiac disease, as well).  Once ruled out, if not getting the appropriate answers then seek the help of an integrative doc.

Your symptoms are text book Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Especially the way they come and go. You need to go back to a real doctor, preferably a specialist and get checked out. I waited way to long to do that myself and I ended up hospitalized for 10 days and almost lost my colon. Call your doctor today!

Were you also pooping blood Jenor? :( Did you heal?

Tina and Andria, thanks for your reply. Nothing makes me feel calm lately. I am depressed because of this. I am glad classes are almost over and I'll be able to relax. I'll get me an appointment these days. I still need to find a doctor that suits my budget.

Yes, I was. I would have a few weeks/months of feeling good, then I'd have an episode where I would get diarrea and bloody stools for a week/weeks. It would take me a while to put the pieces of the puzzle together because as you said, I did heal in between episodes. They would come more and more frequently though, and last longer. In the end I got a fever and ended up in the hospital. I was lucky that I did, I can see now in hindsight.  If you are flaring it is pretty easy to diagnose with a colonoscopy. Now my illness is under control. I take two types of medicines and I stick to the Whole9 type of diet/life style but for the first time in years I feel healthy.

I will be honest with you - Find a doctor. Solve the budget issues after. Borrow the money if you have to. If you do have IBD, you need a colonoscopy and medication. Nothing is worth more than your health.

IBS is the term they give when they don't know what's wrong. I would research Dr Allison Siebecker, ND. She was diagnosed with IBS but she actually has SIBO. She follows a combo diet between GAPS, SCD and FODMAPS and has a protocol to heal the small intestine. Here is her website. Good Luck! http://www.siboinfo.com/diet.html.

Bone broth, gelatin, everything soothing and healing.

If you can get an Integrative Medicine doctor, that would be best, but seek treatment ASAP.

Most kinds of bleeding can become infected, don't wait.
