GFChris
I don't know what took me so long to make this recipe, but I just made Well Fed's Pork Carnitas for the first time. Easy, smells amazing while cooking and the result is a party in your mouth.
Rebe_J
I agree. This is one of our favorites that comes up often in our dinner rotation.
manny and sherry
My husband are starting the program next week and we love carnitas. I know we will be making this recipe.
lizzieforce
If I use the slow cooker do I use the same recipe?
Rebe_J
This recipe is best done on the stovetop; you get the crispy bits similar to authentic. In the slow cooker, you wouldn't need to add much liquid; the meat will release a lot on its own. Look for pulled pork recipes specific to the slow cooker. Pork works well because there's a lot of fat and it doesn't dry out. I usually shorten the time with a slow cooker, too. Hope that helps.
GFChris
Just made this recipe again, and because Whole Foods didn't have pork shoulder in stock, I used pork butt instead. YUM-MY!!!
Rebe_J
I've had good luck with boneless pork spareribs, too. They are already about the right size, and there's enough fat to really make them crispy on the edges. I plan on making a batch tomorrow.
drtracyb
I make the nomnompaleo Kalua Pork in the slow cooker, then shred it and follow Well Fed's directions to turn it into carnitas. It is a staple in our house now. I taking a scoop for breakfast, frying it and throwing an egg on top.
Skweaver80
What do you usually put with the carnitas? I'm looking forward to making it but I'm needing some ideas for additions to the meat.

SusanB.
I made these for the first time last weekend. Utterly insane. Possibly my new favorite Whole30 protein.
Rebe_J
We usually eat greens with pork. I recently made Nom Nom Paleo's pressure cooker kale and carrots. We had it with carnitas, and a small serving of homemade applesauce. It's also good with eggs, topped with salsa and avocado. http://nomnompaleo.com/post/18128850657/pressure-cooker-braised-kale-and-carrots My new Instant Pot is getting a workout. GlennR
Just tried it. It's good, but I prefer adobo.
