Starting January 5th! Who wants to start with me? :)

Day 4 is going better! Still kinda tired but not feeling that "carb flu" so badly today. Doing pretty well with my meals but still find myself having to snack once or twice during the day- a few walnuts, a small piece of fruit. Maybe I'm not eating enough protein during my meals. But it's tough because I have always been the kind of person that eats 5-6 small meals per day because I get full quite quickly but then hungry again quickly. So transitioning to 3 pretty big meals per day with no snacking has been a challenge. Is this a big part of the whole 30? Anybody know? Is there some scientific reason I don't know about for eating 3 meals per day? Because I have always read that it is better to eat more smaller meals. Anyone else going through this?

Have my first crossfit class today for the first time since moving to Barcelona 7 months ago. Maybe not the best idea but I really want to get back into it. Luckily I'm feeling a little more motivated than yesterday. Hopefully it won't be too awful and everyone won't laugh at how weak and out of shape I am.

Good luck to everyone on Day 4! Is it too early to start saying, only 26 days left?

Hi all!

I'm jumping on a little late, but I loved having a forum group to chat with during my last Whole30, so I've returned! This Whole30 has definitely started off quite differently than the last. I've had more cravings and more food hangovers than last time...I think that can be attributed to the holidays!

Yesterday, I had the afternoon off and just let myself rest. I'm more alert now for Day 4 and don't have the headache that had been hanging around for a couple of days.

Higs, I haven't had any food dreams yet but during my last Whole30, I had a very vivid dream of shoveling Lucky Charms into my mouth out of a giant bowl!

Hope you all have an outstanding Day 4!

-Megan

sounds like everyone is doing well! Keep up the good work!!!

Day 3 today for me and doing well, no headaches this time around, which I am thankful for.

It is a frigid day here in the Northeast, so I am planning on running the steps for exercise, although I squatted at the gym last night and my Quads are surely telling me that these might not be the "fastest" steps I have ever run :)

Looking forward to making some sausage this weekend and maybe some carnitas.... :)

Hello, all I am new.

My husband and I also started Whole30 (maybe Whole100) on the 5th!  So far, he has felt dizzy and "off", but I have only felt tired.  So far, so good.  Hopefully, I can keep ahead of the meal planning.  Our kids are somewhate Whole30, I'm planning to make better lunches for my son.

Oh, and my first attempt at making mayo sucked!

Hi ametev - I don't think the no snacking thing is a rule, just a recommendation. If you are genuinely hungry go ahead and have a snack! If you find that you are hungry a lot between meals you probably need to include more healthy fats.

The idea is to have three meals a day to foster optimal hormonal balance, with the first meal occurring within an hour of waking.

If you find yourself having to snack, that either means you're doing it out of habit or if you're hungry. If you're hungry (you could eat something bland like steamed fish and broccoli), I'd advise you to tweak your earlier meals until they satiate you for 4-5 hours.

Until you get there, the recommended snack, if needed, is a mini-meal of protein, veg and fat. Nuts are a fat source on a Whole30.  Try to limit fruit to have with or immediately after your main meals only.

NishaG41 - do you have an immersion blender?  This is the recipe I use and I've never had a failed mayo! http://thehealthyfoodie.com/fail-proof-home-made-paleo-mayo-whole30-compliant/

Day 4 for me today and I'm feeling good!  I had a headache on day 1 - probably from the lack of sugar!  Other than that I haven't had any problems.  Has anyone made any new and exciting recipes?  I've made some recipes from Well Fed/Well Fed 2 and Nom Nom Paleo - all have been outstanding.  I'd say my favorite Well Fed recipe is the chocolate chili and my favorite Nom Nom recipe is her slow cooker roast chicken and gravy.  But there are so many from all 3 cookbooks that I love!  I think someone on this thread mentioned the bora bora fireballs - those are really good too - and the big o bacon burgers from Nom Nom are so delicious (if you can find compliant bacon!).

Have a great day everybody!

Keeping the food pretty simple so far, although did make the meat muffins from Well Fed 1 on Sunday to prep for the week and they have been delicious and a lifesaver for breakfasts!  I have previously made the Cracklin chicken and the pulled pork from Nom Nom Paleo, which are amazing (still need to buy the book got the recipes off the web site)! The biggest help so far for me has been to cook-up a bunch of veggies and just grab them for meals with a protein portion.

Day 4 has been ok, no headaches that I had on Days 2 and 3 so that is good, but I am feeling rather tired.  It's all going to get better, right?! I've been really good with making sure to get my 2-3 litres of water in as well as my 3 meals.  Not really feeling the need for snacks, so that's been good.  Although last night after the kids went to bed I was wandering around looking for a snack.  I ended up having a couple hazelnuts and a glass of water and it seemed to help.  Really making me realize just how much I love to snack in the evening.

I'm feeling sluggish today, but overall good.  I feel like my mood has been better lately and I'm finding that as the days go by, I'm not needing to snack between meals.  The key is staying hydrated or I'll get a headache or feel hungry.  Keep it up, everyone!  I know it's going to be worth it in the end!

Hi Whole30'ers!! I'm so excited to be returning for my second Whole30 and hate that I've missed 7 days of communication with all of you...what an absolute Godsend this forum was for me last year!!

I did my first Whole30 last January and I can honestly say it changed my life! I am a huge believer in the benefits of this program and couldn't wait to get started again this January. I WAY over-indulged in the months leading up to January 5, so I'll admit, I was pretty nervous about how my liver would function without gallons of wine! So far so good! :)

Recently I started a new job, one that has me on the road every day, which is presenting some challenges with heating up meals. I've become a regular at Whole Foods where I can micro my lunch after buying a LaCroix - it's actually working out well, except when I catch site of their two bite cupcakes.....aaaaaacccckkk! Damn Sugar Dragon!!

Looking forward to sharing our successes for the next 26 days! Keep up the good work Team!!

Almost the end of day 3 for me.  I can't seem to stop eating at least it is al Whole30 compliant. I really really wanted a glass of wine or the chocolate and candy and cookies that is at the office.  So instead I am stuffing myself with almonds and coconut flakes even though I ate a big dinner.  Later i will probably pull out the jar of olives....

So to day the end of day three is the hardest so far and my cravings are going crazy.

It's only 30 days I know I can do this.

I second the immersion blender for making mayo.... Revolutionized my mayo making... no more time spend slowly drizzling oil into the food processor. Literally 20 seconds and DONE!!!

YES!!!  I agree!!  it make it so much easier!!  and having the homemade mayo helps add variety to my meals. I am on a mission for homemade ketchup..lol

hi folks - I need some advice - next week I have to travel to a family gathering for an unexpected funeral. I'll be staying with old friends who I haven't seen much. Any suggestions on how to be a good guest and not go off plan? I don't want to offend my hosts, nor do I really want to make a big deal because this change in my life is still so new. Any good foods that can travel well? and don't need refridgeration? I'll be travelling with 2 people who are not doing the whole30, so that makes it a little complicated. Many thanks in advance for suggestions. I have today and the weekend to prepare.

I'm sorry for your loss.

If you're travelling by car, I'd suggest packing a cooler of compliant items. This article has some great tips http://whole9life.com/2011/07/whats-in-your-cooler/. I'd also bring along a compliant cooking fat.

If it were me, I would contact my traveling companions and hosts now and explain you're on a food elimination plan, there's a certain way you need to eat, and you will be bringing appropriate foods to keep you on plan (or buy it when you get there) and not require food prep of your hosts. You could even offer to cook a compliant meal for your hosts to thank them for their hospitality.

If there's a chance you'll dine out, start researching restaurants in the area and review online menus for possible options. If there will be a mercy meal or collation after the services, do the best you can there: have a good template breakfast that day and bring compliant snacks along, in case your options are limited.

Hi everyone.  I started on the 5th, had a few wobbly days, so maybe this will be a Whole 35 for me.  But i'm working it.  Did 3 weeks a few years ago and felt fantastic.  Decided to do it now after having flu followed closely by bronchitis.  My immune system is crying out to be taken care of!

I am sleeping more than usual and still EXHAUSTED!  I know this is normal but man, is it annoying!
