kathyj
I started Jan. 5th as well. this is my second whole 30. My family isn't going to be joining me in this quest, unless I am making their meals It can be a little difficult at times testing my will power! Day 13 !!! FeliciaOH
If anyone's subscribed to the daily emails, check out the "reward" for day 13. The kids and I just laughed so hard at the video!!! (very childish humor, I know, but I really needed that!) I made Nom Nom's Asian Short Ribs today for the second time and they're sooooo good! Next time I'll try the recipe with a different cut of meat. Ribs aren't my favorite and I feel like I waste a lot due to all the fat. But it's nice to have the bones to make bone broth later! I also made her spicy tuna cakes and they're good, too. I think I might try those for breakfast tomorrow, I need to lay off the eggs every morning! seagrey
I survived travelling and stayed on track! Had a little cooler with me with hardboiled eggs, carrots, lettuce, apples, and portioned out some cashews so I wouldn't eat too many at a time. Eating out worked too - ordered salads with plain grilled chicken. The friends I stayed with were very kind and even had a bunch of roasted root vegetables and chicken on hand. I did pick up some Lara bars, but didn't rely on them. Got out and went crosscountry skiing this morning - it's been a while since I've been on skis and I promptly fell down -- was like one of those cartoons when the feet are scrambling trying to stay in place and then slide out from under the character. Once I stopped laughing I got up and had a good time, the dog enjoyed getting a good run in too. Congrats for making it to Day 14! Onward!
higs
Seagrey, I'm over here envying your cross-country skiing excursion. We are having such a warm winter where I am, I have not even seen snow yet. I just bought a ticket to go visit my folks in Idaho next month to play in the snow for a couple days. Hitting the nordic center is on the top of my list!
Penelope
Yay! Almost to the 1/2 way point. My sleep was having issues on my last W30 and I was prepared this time but it's a little better. For those with sleep issues (restless legs or wake up and can't fall back asleep) I used Natural Calm (magnesium... Drink a warm cup powder+water before bed) it really helped. I'm probably not being as anal this time about ingredients as last time but im trying and plan on going 29 days up to a wedding/party date... I'm having fun with recipes and really like the way I feel. Good thing my husband likes to do dishes and shoos me away from the sink (the trick is to waste water and your hubby might take over dishes too My goal this week is to stop eating almond butter! MrsBishop
I cheated and weighed myself... I was hoping to have lost more, but I need to start working out in addition. Trying not to obsess about it cause I feel so much more healthy than I did 14 days ago.
SusanB.
Today is the half-way mark, yes? Day 15! I'm sleeping like hell (which is, unfortunately, "normal" for me), but my routine has been much disrupted. I started exercising early AM in August with the express goal of sticking with it long enough so that I finally start sleeping better (see article about a report here, regarding how exercise affects insomniacs differently than neurologically-normal people). But with pre-surgery anxiety messing up my exercise schedule, and now postop pain/wound keeping me from it, I'm going positively stir crazy. That said, pants were looser today - had to wear a belt to keep them up. So that's something, right?

GREAT news on needing the belt!! That's really impressive. I haven't noticed any of my pants needing any kind of support yet, hopefully that'll start soon for me, because that's one of my goals. I get the daily emails, and one of the things they said was that everyone's journey is different, and not to be discouraged when you are on the forum reading about other's milestones, because they happen at different times for everyone....I really think that's great advice for me!! I do notice that I am less bloated and swollen looking. I do feel great, and for the first time in weeks, I haven't woken up in the middle of the night. The weekend of cooking probably wiped me out! I made some delicious foods for the week, and look forward to savoring the lovely tastes and combinations! I thought I'd miss weighing in every morning, it was just such a habit, but I see the need for detaching from this and have embraced it fully. All is well over here in the ATL, whole30 On my friends!!
cookin'mama
This is my first whole30. I am a relatively clean eater but went way off the deep end from my birthday in late November through the holidays. Living in New England I have had to temper my eating through two football gatherings so far, one that I hosted. It was actually easier than I thought although last night's party included an array of desserts that looked fabulous and had me salivating. I brought compliant veggies and dip, buffalo wings, and meatballs that everyone seemed to love. Today was my first day waking up without a headache, so I am hopeful that the surge of energy is next to come. I have not been working out much but I am hopeful that now that the headache is gone I can fit that in. I do feel like I have lost weight. I hope that doing this program will get me into the habit of planning meals for the week and not get caught in that "what am I going to eat?" place that is a danger zone for me. Mrs.305
Hi January 5ers!...I too am on day 15 on what is my first Whole30 but day 1 on these forums...wish I joined sooner. I committed to doing a Whole30 as a way to refocus on my health after an extremely stressful Fall followed by an indulgent holiday season - and because the program allows coffee. Fatigue, sugar cravings and inflammation were my biggest issues as well as a little vanity - dull complexion, dark circles under my eyes, bloating. Thanks to the influence of my nutritionist, paleo-centric sister, I too followed the paleo diet for a while but got off track. Many of the points made by Whole30 are familiar to me, but I've learned a lot too. For the most part, I have really enjoyed my Whole30. I no longer eat 'breakfast lunch dinner' but rather 3 nutritionally solid meals per day. I feel energized and I am shopping and cooking much better. I don't waste ANYTHING! I realize how much I relied on packaged/processed foods despite thinking that I was a healthy eater/consumer! While I have not completely converted the rest of my family (2 boys and husband)...they are slowly accepting that there are less grains, packaged foods and sugar in the house. Perhaps the hardest thing for me to give up during this process was my glass of wine with dinner, but that was another reason to commit to the Whole30. Here are some of my favorite things to have on hand at ALL times:homemade almond cream in my morning coffee (even better than my beloved half 'n half and I don't miss the sugar!)whipped coconut cream (I probably eat a can of coconut cream a day) guacamole with peppers While most have been successes, I'm still experimenting with recipes from Well-Fed and nom nom. Looking forward to completing the next 15 with you!
Kathikay
Live in Seattle and I fell into a vat of champagne and jalapeño poppers when the Hawks did that thing they did! 13 days in and starting over (after the super bowl). I learmed so much and was just really starting to feel the benefits. Argh but what a game folks!
cookin'mama
Kathikay, that was quite the game! Thankfully there was no champagne at the party I attended when the Pats won. I must say I am a little envious that you will be able to freely enjoy the super bowl while I will be hosting a small whole30 compliant party. I'll see you at the super bowl! Kboom
Day 16 and feeling pretty good! I spent Sunday evening prepping veggies for the week so I'm feeling confident that my meals will be on-track this week. I am finally feeling like I'm over my Christmas cold and my pants are feeling a lot less tight, I know that my stomach bloat has gone way down! This has been very strange to me that this is all feeling very easy (although I did have my very first food dream last night, ice cream which I don't really even like, tasted amazing in my dream) and I'm not struggling to stay on track for the most part. I think this has more to do with feeling well than it does for losing weight. If I look at the non-scale victories, most of my MS symptoms that I was having when starting have gone away or decreased significantly. I am back to the gym 3 days per week and feeling more confident every time. My husband is on this plan with me and is really struggling, he's moody and grumpy. He really wanted beer and pizza watching those football games this weekend and the prospect of a compliant super bowl almost put him over the edge. But I'm on this journey with or without him, this is how things need to be for the long-haul, not just 30 days. OH I made Scotch Eggs from Well Fed this weekend, SO good! Happy over-half-way folks! margegilly
We host a big superbowl party so I'm already menu planning & list making! Superbowl Menu (20 people) -- Paleo Parents - Mini Egg Pizzas Bacon wrapped dates (even if I have to order bacon online!) Pineapple kielbasas (fresh pineapple over sausage coin on toothpick & bake) BIG Veggie tray & paleo ranch Stuffed mushrooms Olive & pickle plate Chicken wings - Nomnom paleos Chile Lime & maybe the Healthy Foodie Smoky Hot BBQ (making the sauce this weekend on roasted chicken to try it out) Proscuitto wrapped prawns? (maybe.. budget depending) BIG Fruit tray (got someone else to bring this already!) Wanted an opinon on the "Our Paleo Life" mini sweet potato souffles as W30 compliant. She addresses it in the recipe than rationalizes it anyway, but I'm thinking no for Whole30. Just wanted to double check as they sound great. But it seems like baking to me... http://www.ourpaleolife.com/2013/03/mini-sweet-potato-souffles/ Anything I'm missing that would balance it out? Overall the menu is pretty high in fat & salt but I think it will please the guests and I'll keep my portions lighter. My no brakes foods are all sweets so not anticpating an issue. MadscienceM
Good morning Folks! Day 15 here for me... Made it through another weekend and a visit to an old friend in Dc area. She was nice enough to make compliant foods for me and had club soda and lime juice for me to make mocktails... didn't even miss the usual drinking and carb loaded food we normally eat. Thinking about stopping for some plantains tonight on my way home... have been enjoying plantains with things lately... YUM.... Pulled out some chicken breasts for dinner tomorrow night and thing I might pan fry then and have them with some mayo and tomato wrapped in lettuce... So glad to hear that folks are having No Scale Victories!!!! YAY!!!! Have a great Tuesday!!!

But it seems like baking to me... http://www.ourpaleolife.com/2013/03/mini-sweet-potato-souffles/ The rules do say "no recreating baked goods with approved ingredients" which is exactly what these are. Based on my own personal context it would definitely be a trigger to make other more muffiny things, spread almond butter on these, maybe drizzle them with some coconut butter and eat every single one of them until they are gone. However, I did not make it a blown out binge!!! Like I would have in the past. My splurge was some rice and beans in a bowl of chili!!! No biggie!! Good luck, see you after the super bowl!!! are you sure you want to wait that long to start back????? I started right back and today is my day 2. cookin'mama
pyrotek, I think it is so tough to stay on track while away, especially for a ski weekend. I would count just slipping up on one meal as a victory and starting over as being just one step closer to your goal. I have chosen not to go to Germany with my husband at the end of the month (he is leaving on day 26) because I know I absolutely could not go and not enjoy the local food and beer. I'll go next time. margegilly,I think I am going to make pulled pork for super bowl. Will you report back on the BBQ sauce? The recipe looks fabulous, although I would have to buy different dijon mustard as mine has sugar. Also, the date paste used as a sweetener has vanilla extract in it which is non-compliant. I doubt it would make a big difference to leave that out, though.
MadscienceM
To all of those who had a little hiccup! Don't Worry, you can do it! Learning experiences! Day 16 and am officially on the downhill. Feeling pretty good and looking forward to my day today! Having an interesting busy morning at work... which makes me happy, I love it when I have interesting cases come up. Then I am leaving Half day to get a new Tattoo! Finishing up my right arm with some awesome Science inspired work... Cannot wait to have it done!!! Have a big lunch to eat before I head into the shop and some snacks, just in case!!! I lifted pretty heavy deadlifts last night and my legs are feeling it this morning!!! But my no scale victory was my Trainer telling me you can really see the difference in my body since I started my first whole 30 in Nov. Arms are more cut and I have a two pack of abs Hope you all have a great day!!! keep up the good work!!!
