higs
I'm thinking about making the Well Fed shepherd's pie for the Superbowl. But, we're Broncos fans over here so we're not hosting a big party this year. Sigh.
seagrey
Made the chocolate chili on Monday and it was great - unfortunately came down with the flu later the same night, so I don't think I'll be eating the chocolate chili any time soon again. At least it'll freeze -when I can manage to put it in the freezer. Am staying hydrated with water and some hebal tea. Am contemplating some chicken broth - all I have to do is heat it up, but that means actually moving.
margegilly
I'm hoping to convert some people! My husband played HS football with Chris Jones, who plays for the patriots (#94) so this is a big game in our house and we are going to do it up big! We love to cook and don't have kids so I'm sure we will be in the kitchen prepping most of the weekend until the big game!
SusanB.
What day are we January 5thers on? 15? 16? Okay, I'm kind of kidding, but my calendar is marked for days 10, 20, 30, and 45 (hey, I was feeling optimistic - unfortunately travel is going to impede it being a 45 or 60). And I know that 10 was last week and 20 is next week. Well, the novelty has worn off, but I feel pretty secure that I have a decent fridge and freezer full of things I've cooked over the last three weekends, so if I don't feel like cooking, there is still real food available to me. Today's lunch at work was leftovers - leftover bora bora fireballs with sauteed kale (brought a too-big portion for lunch monday, didn't finish), leftover brussels sprouts with bacon, leftover nom nom paleo smashed chicken with cilantro lime cauliflower rice. Not bad. Tonight is leftover crock pot pot roast from day -1 (was in freezer). I don't feel much of anything different, but I'm okay with that. I do think my gut is shrinking, and that's good. No increased energy or focus or better sleep, however, my stomach hasn't ached since I started so that is something I'm not feeling that's good. I had food poisoning five years ago and I'm not exaggerating to say that I've had a stomach ache 5-6 nights a week since. Probiotics help, but getting the crap out of my diet appears to help more. I'll take it. I hope everyone is doing well today.

Susanknitr
Good morning, folks! Starting today. Ate clean for most of Dec. but can't call it a Whole 30 due to the little cheats, especially the last week. No excuses this time. It was great, though, so here I am. Never looked back! I am sorry that she went through this, but I am happy to know that I'm not alone. People look at me like I'm utterly crazy when I tell them I've never been the same since the FP. I'm glad to be feeling better, that's for sure. I haven't taken a zofran (anti-nausea) since starting the 30. Which is something indeed.

SusanB.
PS. SusanB, nice to see a fellow woman-rider! I ride a HD Streetglide and am just in process of planning our summer vacation ride. Aww, too cool! The profile pic is of my first sportbike, but I've been on and off of lots of two-wheeled ponies over the years. Just found an opportunity to pick up a nice Bonnie - tempted because I'm hoping to ride cross-country this summer/autumn. But it would mean giving up the Ninja...which, while a silly little beast, fits me really well (I'm 5'2") and it's so so fun to be able to throw it around. Yay for women who ride! toeinthetide
Hello, this is my first post to this community, but I started my Whole30 on Jan 5th so I thought it would be a good place to start. I did the 21 day Primal challenge this time last year and really embraced the Paleo lifestyle, but not terribly strict about it. I'm very excited to be doing the Whole 30 now! So far so good. Some digestive issues. I guess I am a year older and my body is having a harder time adjusting to the higher proportion of fat in my diet. Trying to cut back on the nuts now, and replace some of the cruciferous veggies with squashes and root veggies. I had a few slip ups with a couple non-compliant salads ordered out (no croutons at least, but I know I consumed bad oils, some dairy, and probably sugar). And fries in my first week, when I was still a bit confused about the rules (I'm embarassed about that one). Today my husband gave up on it, and he struggled the whole time. But I'm trying to stick with it. I am considering starting over as of the day after I ate That Bad Salad on the 16th. Has anyone ever had to do this, start over in the middle of a Whole 30? I'm trying to stay positive and focus on the accomplishments, but at the same time I am usually pretty hard on myself regarding stuff like this. Dragging this out another 2 weeks when my hubby isn't even participating is going to be hard. Lucky for me I LOVE to cook and I'm getting pretty good at meal planning. Other than cheese and dark chocolate, my cravings have mostly vanished. I'm hoping this community will help me reach my goals. It feels good to know I'm not the only one! cookin'mama
seagrey, sorry about the flu. Ugh! toeinthetide, there have been several people on threads that I follow that have started over mid-way. Have you read http://whole30.com/2014/06/really-start-whole30/? This is my first whole 30 and have been powering through so far so I have not had to make that decision and my fingers are crossed that I don't have to in the future. Sorry that you lost your partner in the W30. I hope your husband will be your cheerleader for the remainder of your journey.
toeinthetide
After posting that, I did some research including reading the above article. My gut feeling was that I ought to start over for the true benefit. Now I feel confident about that. And up to the challenge! I'm looking at the bright side. The first two weeks were like practice. So now it will be EASY to go 30 days, since I have still gained so many of the benefits already. Less cravings, sleeping well, better energy etc. Also that thing about eating as many eggs as you can hold in a hand... a revelation! I was limiting myself to 2, thinking this was "reasonable" and I'd be over-doing it with more.
MadscienceM
Day 17!! and feeling GREAT!!!! After 4 .5 hours of sitting in the tattoo chair, I am the proud owner of a whole arm tattoo now.. full of Science stuff! Totally worth it and I am so excited to have it finished up! Although my boss just gave me disapproving looks today (the state government has no rules on covering up tattoos and I am wearing a long sleeved shirt, he just saw me showing it to a coworker) and I already had a half sleeve which I would cover whenever I had meetings with outside folks or anyone important... I am not the first person in the world to have sleeve tattoos. I have to cover them up at the Gymnastics place where I coach and never complain, just do it. Tattoos are for me and I know not everyone likes them like that, so I follow the rules. Got home and made some Almond flour crusted chicken breasts which I fried up in some ghee and had with some mayo and tomato slices wrapped in lettuce! YUM!!!! so good!!! Hope you all have a great day!!! Keep up the good work!!!
cookin'mama
Congrats, Madscience M, on your new masterpiece! I have only tried coating chicken in almond flour to cook once and found it to be gritty. I am going to have to give it another go around. Maybe my almond flour was too coarse. MadscienceM
My almond flour was very fine and it crisped it up well... I actually did a quick dredge in almond flour, dip in egg and then another dredge in almond flour. was really good!
Kboom
Still hanging in there. And today is really the first day where I am feeling very "over it". I have some work stuff happening that is causing some stress and deep thoughts and I really just want a freaking Chai tea latte or a cider (maybe with a side of dill pickle wings)! I made a quick trip into Costco last night and was able to find my complaint bacon that wasn't in on the weekend so I have my stash on-hand for the weekend and bought lots of fruit and veggies for a quick grab. @madscienceM all your talk of your cool new tattoo inspired me to finally book in for my new one. Hopefully my artist isn't booking too far out! @cookin'mama I, too, have tried the almond flour chicken fingers before with the gritty results. I am thinking it was possibly because I baked them as well. I may try it again by frying them. I am looking toward Friday night and the dreaded "can we have pizza?" question from the kids, so I think we will be having some cracklin' chicken which makes everyone happy. We will stay the course for another day, we are almost to day 20!

MrsBishop
Thank you!!! Even though I have to start over, I am going strong!! I only let the slip up be 1 meal!!! not the entire WEEKEND!!!! That is a first for me. I have learned so much and am enjoying the way I feel!!! I wish you the best as well!!! I love that you made this statement, because If I slipped especially on a vacation I probably would have said screw it and let me go all out this weekend and start over another day. But that's an awful mentality to have. I'm going to keep this in mind when I complete the whole 30, not to go buck wild. I will definately be chewing some gum though . SusanB.
Where are we? Day 19, yeah? I'm feeling more or less the same. Was really hoping for some added energy, but I think the insomnia (waking up after 3-4 hours sleep and that's it) is negating any chance I might have for this result. That said, last night was the first time I wasn't awake for hours - I was dead asleep when my alarm went off, in fact. Which would have been great, except that I got to bed way later than usual (I had company over to the house and just couldn't tell them to go home because I wanted to go to bed). MadscienceM
@ kboom- Hope you get an appointment soon with your artist. I had booked mine about 4 months ago, which was okay, since I was able to throw some money towards it whenever I had a bit extra... so I only had to Tip my artist after this last one! I am thinking of making the Cracklin chicken Tomorrow night! Looks yummy! Day 18 here and not that I am over it, but I was really missing ketchup yesterday.... I think I am going to make a batch of ketchup this weekend... I have been meaning to do it, just ran out of time last weekend.... Stay strong everyone... the end is almost here! KanaP
day 18 and I'm fed up and want to give up! But I know I must not... and mostly I am just feeling very tired, had a really bad sleep last night, can't figure out why... Plus we want to go the moutains this week-end, and it just takes a lot more planning and organisation doing a whole 30 than just improvising food and drinks when we're there. Might go skiing and not sure if I can find any compliant food on the slopes... Well I must stop complaining, because overall I'm happy with what I have achieved so far, I feel much less bloated, feel lighter and more energy most of the time. So let's keep up

You have come this far, you more than half there. I don't know if this works for you, but for myself when I start losing motivation. I get on this forum 1. But I also love looking/reading success stories on instagram, facebook, and pinteret. Also I think a lot of people get down this time of the year because of the weather so its very easy to succomb to negative self talk. You got this! Angela S
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is feeling "less excited." I'm going to quit (I'm much too stubborn for that). I'm just sad I don't have the same energy that I did for the first 2 weeks. Maybe this is a delayed day 10-12?
