WindyCityGirl
I learned about the Whole30 from the Doctor Oz show and I was interested in the idea of a "reset" for my body to undo all the damage I had done by yoyo dieting my entire life. I especially was drawn to the idea of having more energy bc I was tired of feeling exhausted all the time and more importantly control the cravings -I had let food take over my entire life! BUT when I learned that I could lose up to 20lbs in just one month I was sold! I'm almost done with the program and definitely feel better physically, less bloated, more energy and I just feel lighter on my feet bit but I'm SHOCKED that I've lost only 5lbs (yes I know I cheated and weighed myself) how could this be I've completed transformed my eating and thought I'd be down at least 14lbs Do you guys recommend a Whole60? And exercise? I failed to mention that I did not exercise throughout the program.
Moderators LadyM Posted December 27, 2014 Moderators Share Posted December 27, 2014 Congrats on almost reaching completion of your first Whole 30! I'm almost done with the program and definitely feel better physically, less bloated, more energy and I just feel lighter on my feet This is why throwing out the scale for the full 30 days is a requirement of the program. The point is to learn to focus on the important things. By doing the W30 you are making yourself healthier, and making yourself healthier doesn't include losing weight quickly. You're so much better off letting go of your expectations in that regard. And yes, keep going if you want to keep feeling good, getting healthier, and yes, losing weight at a sustainable and reasonable rate.
WindyCityGirl
Thanks for the encouragement and I hope I'm getting healthier and that the weight starts to really come off because I certainly feel better than I did. What do you recommend after the Whole30....transitioning to a Paleo lifestyle?
Tina Marie
I can honestly say - Hang in there ! it happens - but happens the way your body needs to. Keep it up and you will see results.... internally and externally ! I have followed Paleo prior to starting W30 - that helped me a lot. and when I decide to stop W30 - I will most definitely go back to Paleo. I started my w30 9/4 and have continued to follow it. 1/1/15 I will do a STRICT 30 again. You may find that you don't want to stop doing the w30- and you don't have to stop. Do what feels best for you. good Luck !!

Tina R
You are lucky, I didn't lose 1 single pound or 1 single inch on any of my whole30s. This post might help you with what to do after your whole30. http://whole30.com/2012/01/ride-your-own-bike-2/. This post might help you with the weight issue, it's not about the number, really. http://everydaypaleo.com/attention-scale-addicts-part-2/. Good Luck! Moderators ShannonM816 Posted December 27, 2014 Moderators Share Posted December 27, 2014 I kind of hate the "I lost 20 lbs in a month" stories. I mean, I'm happy for those people, but they're not the norm. When I started my first Whole30, I weighed 298 lbs, and only lost a little over 7 lbs during that month. However, as long as I stick to eating this way most of the time, my weight continues to go down. I'm sure I could lose faster if I exercised more and was more strict about my eating when I'm not actually doing a Whole30, but I like that I can just live my life and not worry too much about it and continue to see results. It seems much more sane to me than logging every bite of food I take, counting calories and fat grams.

Hutlifr
Just so you know I extended my whole30 by another month too because my body was just slower at healing. And by extending it I did not just get a body reset, but a brain reset... Food was my life, and now food is the fuel my body needs
praxisproject
Don't forget that muscle also weighs more than fat, so you may have lost more than you can see on the scale (yet another reason why scales are fairly useless). Were you feeling good until you stepped on the scale? If so, give your scale to someone else, get it out of the house, it's not helping you. Think about how you feel, how your clothes fit, your general wellbeing, energy levels, cravings. I was so sick before I did my first Whole30, but I'd been sick so long, I'd forgotten what well felt like.
WindyCityGirl
Hi Hutlifr..... yes I know what you mean about the brain rest. I used to wake up and food was the focus of my life. I thought about what I wanted for breakfast, lunch, dinner... everything was revolved around food. I felt panicked when I couldn't satisfy the cravings that were out of control! In just 27 days I don't feel like the same person. ... I'm not thinking of food 24/7 and I'm completely satisfied after my meals and I don't have that guilty feeling from overeating anymore. I pray that I never go back to that way of life and that I get down to a healthy weight!

WindyCityGirl
Thank you Praxisproject- actually I was feeling really good until I stepped on the scale . I will have to reshift and focus on all the benefits that have come from this way of eating. I'm so glad you're feeling well and I hope you never have to experience what sick feels like again! praxisproject
I had lost about 20% of my muscle mass before my first Whole30 Recovery was much more important than weightloss. You might want to think about whether you want to do a Whole60 or even a Whole45, if you're after some stronger results. Hormones and other factors can need repair and will take priority over weightloss, if there's anything else going on. I have a lot to lose and was so sick my first Whole30, lots of exercise wasn't really an option, I just did some when I felt well and full of energy. Exercise is however, very beneficial if your body is up for it (if it's not, just wait, W30 is a great building block). It doesn't need to be chronic cardio. I get my best results from lifting heavy things in the afternoon/evening. My cortisol is too high in the morning to get the best from my workouts.
