Cravings on day 12?

Recommended Posts

Today marks my first week. A couple of days ago as I just drove past a Harris Teeter Grocery store I had the most intense craving for a glazed donut! I couldn't believe it. It was as strong and sudden as those cravings for cigs I'd get when I stopped smoking years ago.

The funny thing is I never even bought glazed donuts from that store but I know they have them.

The same happened me last week passing a shop on the way to the bank I just got this completely random & strong desire for a Snickers! I can not remember the last time I had one...

.....snip...The mind works in mysterious ways!

It sure does. I have found myself suddenly craving candy bars and such too.

I don't know if this will help anyone but back 11 years ago when I quit smoking (after years of failed attempts) I did it though this program called "Self Help Works". Part of the program was to intentionally bring on cravings and deal with them with this little "mantra" so to speak. So lately I've been sometimes using it with these sugar cravings. The whole concept isn't anything new....whatever you resist persists type thing....so instead trying to find a substitute or white knuckle it through I really acknowledge it. I allow myself to crave it, I bring up all kinds of thoughts and feelings about it....then I say.....(which I hope isnt' some copyrighted thing here ;) )................ I'd like to have a _____ (donut, snickers bar, etc) and the choice is up to me. But I want and deserve the benifits of health and living free. So for now I choose to expand my comfort zone and have these feelings of my mind training and my body healing.

Soon my comfort zone without the sugar will be greater and greater until I have no feelings about it at all, good or bad. If it helps even one person then I guess it's worth posting :P ............

that's exactly what i do with alcohol. "Man, everyone else is having a beer. I'd really like a cold one. I could. But I also really like not being hungover, and I know my family history, and that's a can of worms I just can't open."

STILL having big dairy and carb cravings. Yesterday I wanted some good ice cream like nobody's business. I ate two bites of a Larabar, with a plan to eat the whole thing, and realized "man, I'm not even hungry."

On this Whole30 I still don't know how much having a substitute is the mind game in which case I shouldn't have it or when it's okay to have something just because it would be nice to have.

Because as far as ice cream goes I've learned to put frozen bananas through a champion juicer with the whatever attachment and wow it's good, better the ice cream even I think. Frozen mango too with a fig sauce (figs soaked and blended). If you don't have a champion juicer it can also be made in a food prossecor. hmmmm maybe with a little coconut milk added...hmmmm

I'm on Day 8 and have been having cravings like crazy since my roommate baked and set out a container of chocolate chip cookies. Seeing them every time I'm in the kitchen seriously made me scurry upstairs immediately after making dinner yesterday. I don't think it helps that I've been staring at Paleo treats and food porn all day. One of my favorite occasional treats that I believe is W30-compliant is an apple with some almond butter or sunbutter. This hits the spot and is a great sweet and savory combo.

For both my first attempt at a Whole 30 as well as my subsequent successful Whole 30, the strongest of the cravings came at the end of the second week. Hang in there. I can't say that my cravings have gone away but they are certainly less often, less intense, and are now very managable.

I really love your mantra Jena! I am going to use it, too! Thank you for sharing.
