cmeteach
I'm finishing day 2 and I have felt pretty good. I was overwhelmed at first, but then I reminded myself that I was overwhelmed when I started the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and I not only did it, but I did it for 3 months. 30 days should be easy! It also helps that, even as far off the wagon as I fell, I still have many of the eating habits still from the SCD. So I am doing this because my body started to revolt big time. Things that I used to be able to eat (a month ago) had started to cause major bloating and gas pains. I contemplated doing the SCD again, but I am hoping to have some faster results. I ran the Muddy Buddy on Sunday and am still feeling pretty sore. I run my first real 5K tomorrow through my husband's work and then on Saturday I am going to Tree to Tree Aerial adventure course. Oh and I am hoping to get a workout on Thursday and a bike ride on Friday. My goal this week, besides sticking to plan, is to figure out my pre-workout and post-workout food. So my I know I am not eating enough food, but I don't know how much is the right amount. I feel pretty full when I get done eating, but I'm really hungry before the next meal...especially at night. Also, I miss cheese and my homemade yogurt (24 hour yogurt). Cheese has been my go to snack and my kids eat it a couple times a day. Not taking a bite while cutting it for them has been a huge victory. Ok, I guess that is it for now. I am off to read more about pre- and post- workout food. jhmomi
Good luck with your Whole30. It's an adjustment to eat this way, but it gets easier and becomes habit eventually. FYI - I did the Chicago Muddy Buddy Run in July. Fun!
cmeteach
Day 3 and man, I almost squeaked out without an emotional anti-whole30 moment that the daily email warned me of. I ate a good egg breakfast , made a sweet potato, banana, and cinnamon purée for post race and I remembered to pack a few other things to eat while my family ate the BBQ. My 5K went really well (33:21) and I would have been faster if I didn't have to weave through all the walkers in the beginning. Post-race I was shocked that I wasn't hungry at all. I ate some tomatoes and a little bit of my purée, but that was it. So we returned home and the lovely roast that I started before we left appeared to be good to go. When I pulled it out though, it was over cooked. I hate well done meat. HATE!!! So I had a bit of a meltdown because I had nothing else but eggs and eggs are disgusting (they aren't but that is what I felt at the moment). I couldn't make anything because everything was frozen. Thankfully I have an awesome husband and I left him with the kids while I ran to whole foods. Now it is a couple hours later, I have food in my stomach and more prepped in my fridge and things don't seem so bad. I can't tell you the number of times tonight I wanted to cheat though. I miss cheese so much and I want to drink coffee with honey again. I know that most of the people doing the whole30 will stay dairy free post 30 days, but I really can't wait to be able eat cheese again. Oh well, it is only 30 days. Derval
Urgh, you poor thing, esp after a race when you have that base animal hunger, good for you for running to the store instead of making poor choices.
cmeteach
Forgot to post yesterday. Have been feeling like crud for the last 24 hours. My kids gave me their colds and I feel like I have the flu on top of it all. I think it is the result of die off and wanted to see if other people are having issues, but the search function keeps giving me an error message when I put "die off" in the search box. Urgh! I did find something in the ladies only section, but that was with regard to breastmilk. Anyway, I am hoping to feel better soon. I made bone broth for the first time...well, I am making it now. I strained it earlier, but it was still too light and not very flavorful. So I threw it back in the crockpot along with some herbs and garlic. I have the top off, hoping it will boil down a little. I have heard that is great for gut issues. Here's hoping. Tomorrow I am out of the house and because I was sick, I have done nothing to prep. Need to start to plan farther in advance!
