RxBar - Homemade Substitute

So, the RxBar is Whole30 approved (apple cinnamon and Blueberry are good).  I'm eating one post workout.  They are kind of expensive, so can I substitute my own homemade with a recipe I found using:  dates, walnuts, macadamia nuts, coconut oil, blueberries, unsweetened shredded coconut?

My post workout is typically in the car on my way to work - so I can't make anything real fancy.  Just something easy.

The difference here is that your homemade version does not contain protein, while Rx Bars have protein from egg whites. Yours is more like a Lara bar substitute, which is technically compliant but not recommended outside of emergencies--and definitely not recommended for post workout because of the lack of protein content and the added fat from nuts and coconut oil.

A better post-workout choice would be some pre-cooked chicken or canned tuna alongside some starchy veggies like sweet potato.

OK - makes sense.  I have been waiting until I get in office to eat my 2 eggs and 3 strips of bacon (Meal 1) (I know I need to add a veggie to my Meal 1, but haven't gotten that far yet).  but thought I should eat closer to finishing my workout for recovery.  Thank you.

Potentially. There is a NZ company, The Honest Food Co, that sell egg white protein powder and bars etc made from this. I keep meaning to try making this into a homemade bar, but I don't know whether the result would be whole30 compliant?

So I just received my box of Rx bars in the mail, but just want to be sure that they are 100% whole 30 compliant? I am on day 6 and don't want to ruin it. I just wasn't sure about the 100% chocolate and apple juice concentrate.

As long as there is no sugar listed this is fine. However we wouldn't recommend this as a regular food to eat. Keep these around for emergencies when you are super hungry and can't get to other compliant food.

Could a homemade bar be made with powdered egg whites to provide the protein?

As long as the egg white powder has no off plan ingredients this is also fine. Again we wouldn't recommend these types of bars for regular consumption.

Both of these questions are answered in the Official Can I Have Guide which is always a great place to start when you have questions about your Whole30 ingredients.
