Morning x

I signed up to Whole30 yesterday and wrote this in my Log:

Hello.  My name is Kathryn, I am a married (11yrs now!) mother of three boys (9, 6 and 2yrs), I am from Wigan, England (nr Manchester) and I discovered Whole30 this week!  This is my story...

I have always had issues with weight, health and nutrition since my teenage years.  Sports was optional for our GCSEs at the end of High School - I chose to do Spanish!!  One common condition I have had since my teens has been migraines.  Completely debilitating.  People have always said that they improve as you get older.  It was when I hit my 30s I realised that they got more intense.  By this time however I had been married for about six years and we had 2 children under the age of six - plus a part-time job in our A&E department!

In October of 2014 they took a turn for the worst and I had a migraine that lasted for 3 days.  Still normal, I guess.  The pain started to increase, my husband drove me to the Emergency Doctor and had to assist me walking as I couldn't open my eyes.  I have had lengthy migraines before, only this time I couldn't manage the pain and started to intensify over my right eye.  I was sent to A&E and tests began.  I was given 5(!) drugs, each increasing in strength and they did not touch it at all.  The doctor began tests for a bleed on my brain.  I had a CT scan and planned Lumbar Puncture (ouch!).  The results were clear.  I could not believe it.  The Medical Consultant came to see me fairly quickly and explained that it was an extreme migraine and that I should consider reviewing my diet in its entirety.

I could not believe it.  An hour earlier, I was preparing my husband that I may have a bleed on my brain (the Consultant had called to a specialist hospital and arranged Emergency transfer just in case)...and it was just a migraine.  I had FINALLY had enough of getting sick with food.  I did my research online and cleaned up my diet so that I could find a possible trigger for the migraines.

Paleo and Clean/Lean is not a commonplace here in the UK, in fact the NHS prescribe Slimming World as a nutritional tool. When I left the hospital, I in fact attended a Slimming World class the next day.  Ok...to a point.  Zero education about Nutrition!!!!!  My husband and I have been eating a Clean diet since that day in October and we can feel the benefits already.  Now its time to take a leap.

Next Wednesday I turn 35 and my husband has asked what I would like for my birthday.....a spiralizer and 'It Starts With Food' please x

I am pleased to say that I have decided to start my first Whole30 journey on Monday 19th January (yikes)!!

I have read through the introduction to Whole30, am so excited to be part of this forum.  Thank you for welcoming me here.  I am going to use this as a 'diary' entry to chart our experiences and share our results.  I say 'our' because I have roped my husband in too - a fact he is, at the moment, unaware of x

Lovely to meet you all.  This is a very inspiring place to have found x

Back soon.

Kathryn x
