food sensitivities; inflammation

Recommended Posts

I want to better understand:  If I have a food sensitivity and I notice it in the form of bloating or gassiness or cramps after I eat, let's say chicken, is the chicken causing gut inflammation? Or are we talking about two different things?  Chicken also happens to be one of the staples in my daily food....

Thanks!

I am not an expert. I believe that when you change your diet you can get gassy and bloated because your body is trying to deal with the new food. Your body will adjust it just takes a while. Food sensitivities can range from being tired after you eat to rashes, painful joints and headaches. Some symptoms can take days to show up. The best thing to do is follow the reintroduction phase after your whole30 so you can help to pinpoint a food that may be giving you trouble. I know that gluten can react differently in people. It can attack some peoples brains. They never know they have a problem until they develop M.S., dementia, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, etc. also you can react to gluten for up to 6 months after you have had it so for those who have a gluten sensitivity, they should never have gluten. I hope that helps.

But does eating  foods you are sensitive to cause inflammation?  Does anybody know?

It can. What Tina is saying is inflammation and gassy/bloated are not necessarily the same thing. Poultry allergies do exist, but if you are in the early stages of Whole30 gassy/bloated is a normal part of the adjustment period. Unless you are having an obvious severe reaction to something you are eating I wouldn't assume you are sensitive to it.

Well the thing is I did a blood test that told me exactly what my food sensitivities are and it suggests a reintroduction cycle similar to whole30;  however, meanwhile, I'm finding that those food are actually bothering me.  Since some of my issues probably have to do with inflammation, I didn't want to make that worse.  There are things that are categorically inflammatory and we cut those out following the whole30 guidelines.  But there are things that are specific to me and I'm trying to assess if I should cut those out too.  Being a little bloated I can deal with but if it's getting in the way of my digestion working well overall, I want to avoid that .  . . .
