Rachel Carito
I am obsessed with coconut butter and have been having a few tablespoons every night to take the edge off. Because i'm eating it this way is it considered SWYPO??

Rachel Carito
It's amazing stuff! Most of the time i just put some over a baked sweet potato but lately i've been eating it by the spoonful. I don't eat more than 4 tablespoons but i wonder if i need to cut it out. GFChris
I think you may have answered your own question. :-) If you are genuinely hungry (litmus test: you could eat something bland like steamed fish and broccoli), the recommendation is to have a mini meal of protein, veg and fat. Coconut butter would be a fat source. So yes, add in some potato and a protein instead when you have it, to avoid having mutiple spoonfuls (4 tbsp = 1/4 cup). If you find you can't restrict it, it may be best, in your case, to shelve it for the rest of your Whole30.
Moderators LadyM Posted January 18, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 18, 2015 It might be more helpful for you to think of it as a food without brakes (FWOB). Coconut butter is like that for a lot of us. I learned the hard way and now keep it out of my house!
Bluebonnets
For me, it's a food without brakes, or SWYPO. The thing is, it's ok to eat a spoonful or two of coconut butter with a meal, as your fat, as others have said. But to eat it by itself is a "snack", which W30 discourages. I had to remove my coconut butter from my sight in my pantry (along with nut butters, Larabars, etc.). Even though it's all technically compliant, I can eat it till the cows come home (me being the cow...lol).
Rachel Carito
I knew the answer but had to hear it ......Out it goes. Thanks everyone
Bluebonnets
Rachel, I knew the answer too, but I had to hear it as well (on another thread). Remember, it's fine to eat a spoonful or two with a meal, as part of your meal (this would be your fat). I found that I was eating it around 8:00 pm, while watching t.v., dishes from dinner long gone. I was rationalizing because "it's technically compliant", until I found myself knee-deep in a jar....lol.
kirkor
I've eaten a whole can of coconut milk before...
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted January 20, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 20, 2015 If you're an evening snacker, try the Melissa Joulwan trick of declaring "The Kitchen is Closed" at 8 p.m. You can only go in there to get a drink of water or tea. No food. That keeps me out of the nut butter and coconut butter.
