tulipgirl6
Why don't I feel great? At least I don't feel hungry; I'm on day 23; please critique: 1/23 I'm a bit off today, but let's start with today: M1: 3 eggs 2 persian cucumbers handful of grape tomatoes with a squeeze of lemon almond milk/ coffee 1 date maybe 10 ish raw cashews M2: 2 sushi rolls with black pepper cucumber and avocado and a bit of chicken I had a snack; I usually don't but today I had: 1 coconut water (I very rarely have these and only when I'm feeling severely dehydrated or migraine-ish) , 1 plum maybe 8ish macadamia nuts didn't have M3 yet but it's gonna be chicken, salad pickles and I made some potatoes and roasted veggies. I probably had 5 x 8oz water so far today
Administrators ladyshanny Posted January 23, 2015 Administrators Share Posted January 23, 2015 Hey again! I really don't think you're eating enough. I know I've said this before and I know you don't necessarily agree with me.....but your symptoms from the other thread tell the story. (I copied it so that other mods can read and weigh in also) right about now I feel like: enough with this food denial and I'm ready for reintroduction..... my eggs are missing their cheese; I could use a little carbs REAL CARBS here or there, and a pack of potato chips would feel so good........ I think my body composition is changing for the worse along with my skin and thighs...... if one more person tells me how good I look, and "you lost so much weight" I might smack them; I still have a big round belly; my hunger is much more 'level' and so is my blood sugar; except that it's still elevated in the AM.... my gym also got a fancy body fat calculator and I made the mistake of doing that; totally disappointing. are we allowed to eat seaweed? that's just a vegetable of the sea, right????? help! it's about to turn into the snack zone here! Your big carb desires have to do with your general lack of carbs. Go figure. You show a planned serving of potatoes tonight, are you serving a starchy carb at least once a day? Are you diabetic? If not, why are you testing your blood sugar in the morning? Sometimes these "numbers" that get assigned to our health can be detrimental. The cheese on your eggs can be replicated (salty, creamy texture) with homemade mayo or salted guacamole. Just a tip. What are your sushi rolls composed of? How much protein contained? GFChris
Are you having carb dense vegetables, daily? Are you having 2-3 cups of veggies per meal? Any leafy greens? (Spinach, kale collard greens) What is the size of "a bit of chicken" in your meal 2? Make it at least the length, width and thickness of your palm. The recommended snack is a mini meal of protein, veg and fat. Nuts are a fat source. Have your fruit or immediately after your main meals only. Are the pickles compliant? How much sleep are you getting nightly, on average? How's your current level of stress?
MeadowLily
M1: 3 eggs 2 persian cucumbers handful of grape tomatoes with a squeeze of lemon almond milk/ coffee 1 date maybe 10 ish raw cashews You need another protein alongside your eggs at breakfast. Cashews and date - no protein. Almond milk - more like a condiment. I don't see enough good fats - cashews have the most carbs of any nut. M2: 2 sushi rolls with black pepper cucumber and avocado and a bit of chicken This is more of a snackity meal than an actual meal. I had a snack; I usually don't but today I had: 1 coconut water (I very rarely have these and only when I'm feeling severely dehydrated or migraine-ish) , 1 plum maybe 8ish macadamia nuts Coconut Water has a high natural sugar/carb content. Plum and nuts. More sugar. No protein there. Tulip - you don't have enough protein or good fats throughout the day. The dried fruit, fruit, coconut water and nuts would leave me feeling nauseous after this many sugary type carbs. More protein like fish and beef will really boost you up. This much sugar will also give you cravings for something salty to counteract all of the sugars. Coconut Water Coconut water has natural sugar. If there is no sugar added in the ingredient list, it's acceptable on the Whole30, but not encouraged, as it's essentially, well, sugary water. Make sense? Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 23, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 23, 2015 Honestly, you have to eat more to feel good. You are barely eating half of what you need. No wonder you feel bad! There is no way to make a Whole30 work without actually trusting our process and doing it. That means eating "heavy" proteins, plenty of fat, and loads of veggies. And you probably need a starchy veggie at every meal. For example potatoes, rutabagas, turnips, beets, carrots, plantains, taro, etc. You could be dehydrated too. So far today you report drinking 40 ounces of water. That is enough if you weigh 80 pounds and are not exercising. We recommend 1/2 ounce of water per pound of body weight per day and a little more if you are exercising.
tulipgirl6
Today's meals are totally off-template; Usually they are pretty good; I almost give up. I'm actually not craving carbs or anything for that matter. Potato chips are my vice and my comfort food. I haven't had a coconut water in many months until today. My sleep is not great. I had a few nights of deep sleep but even then I was waking in middle of the night. My stress level is very high. I have not as yet been able to manage that or figure out how to work with it better. My pickles are compliant. Up until today I have been having 2-3 cups of veggies per meal. I tried having a small bowl of soup this week as part of my M2 made with squash and sweet potato. There's a whole30 carb chart and I think it actually said I should stay low or almost no carb. I'm not sure where I saw that; in the book maybe? I am pre-diabetic; something that's lingering on after my last pregnancy, so I do occasionally check my blood sugar levels, especially in the morning..... Ladyshanny: the other day when I didn't eat enough it was because I wanted to go to the gym in the morning, and I can't exercise after a full meal, so I almost split M1 into before and after. I can't figure out how else to do it? Any thoughts? Help! I was doing very well until today. Except that I don't feel great.
Administrators ladyshanny Posted January 23, 2015 Administrators Share Posted January 23, 2015 Tulip, have you lost a large amount of weight recently? Lily alluded to that in her post on the other thread. Can I ask how much, how fast and how recently and how you did it? I think you are in an "I love my new life and I'm never going back there you can't make me oh my God I can't gain weight stop the presses holy shit" post weight loss mode. I lost almost 100# about 8 years ago and TRUST me, that phase is real and it's destructive. I spent 4 years, post weight loss, analysing every single calorie that went past my lips. I exercised my feet bloody and even went to spinning classes on Christmas Day because I absolutely could NOT miss one. Totally insane. Then I found Whole30/Paleo. And to be completely honest, I gained weight back in the first year of following the recommendations before I levelled out, dropped a few and eventually settled where I am now. Eating good, healthy food in quantities that are sufficient for your health, nutrition and activity levels will put you exactly where you need to be. Eventually. You may go up before down. Food is not virtue. It's nourishment for the gorgeous body that you worked so hard to slim down. Give her FOOD. Let her feel good and nourished and happy and content and healthy. Please just try our way for 30 days. Protein, veggies, fat. In template quantities.

MeadowLily
Tulip - Mr. Denham is telling you the Whole 30 truth and nothing but the truth. You can possibly eat more because you're wanting potato chips and popcorn. If you're pre-diabetic, you're eating way too many fruit sugars and nuts don't really help either. Do you eat beef or fish? What I mean, do you prefer more of a vegan eating style?
tulipgirl6
ok so I have lost about 60 pounds. i started in oct 2013 but nothing's been going on with my weight for a while; as in it has not been dropping. i started exercising with a trainer in september 2014 and I believe I was building muscle, still no weight loss, but I saw and felt a difference, and it was helping my blood sugar levels. i *hated* tracking my food and counting calories and macros. but without counting, if you don't keep track of it, it's hard to remember what you ate and get an overall picture; I'm thinking, what did I eat earlier this week? did I stray? I actually found out some time in the fall that I had fractured my toe and have a neuroma in my right foot; I was exercising with it and one day noticed my pain; I decided to give it a rest; it's not totally healed but it's 90% better; so I've been doing light exercise; I also want to add that I actually do not like the starchy veggies. Those and other cooked veggies make me want to gag. I'm more of an arugula lettuce peppers tomatoes kind of girl.....

MeadowLily
Alrighty then...eat more fish and beef, less fruits, dried fruits and nuts. Add more good fats like avocado and compliant oils, clarified butter.

tulipgirl6
raw veggies don't bother me; cooked veggies do to me what I imagine raw veggies do to others. i get gassy from them. they somehow make me more hungry. i don't eat dried fruits. period. ever. i rarely eat fruits. well i love fruits but over the past year i have been limiting myself to 2 a day at most. 1 being a date, and the other might be a handful of berries. it's not berry season right now and they are super expensive around here so I've been having 1/2 small grapefruit. my brain is sabotaging what I'm doing. I was doing well with meals and all, I'll see if I can put up photos for help but when you don't see "results" your brain tells you to abort the mission...... I did enough already...... actually this was in the daily newsletter yesterday, right on cue. I should have recognized it. I want to be able to make the sexy healthy foods I see pictures of online. Let me remind you that I botched up the mayo. Seeing those picture perfect foods is kind of like seeing women in fashion magazines. There's a picture, there's step by step instructions, what could go wrong??? For the most part I'm fine simple things like salads, soups, grilled meats, sardines, and I love eggs. Baby arugula mustard greens and spicy sprout greens make me happy if I can find them. I really enjoy a crisp lettuce. But then I get bored at some point. Crunchy things help me destress. I also have low blood pressure. I have been eating like this shooting for 6-8 cups of veggies a day, for over a year. so i increased it a bit for this whole30. I eliminated cheese and the occasional grains. Even with cheese, I wasn't eating all cheeses. I also shoot for 3 liters of water / daily. Last week I focused on chicken and I think it felt like my digestion was disrupted. This week I had more fish. Better. Thanks for your help everyone. MeadowLily
Okay, it appears you've dodged yesterday's snowball rolling down the mountain and you're back in the groove on your Day 24. Nevermind the mayo slurry. I haven't made any either. I've learned so much from the chefs that post here about preventing food boredom. I create my own recipes and use every herb, spice, citrus fruit, balsamic vinegar, horseradish, good oils to mix it all up. Hutlifr is a professional chef. I can't duplicate her finesse, panache, elan and artistry but I can absorb good tips. Progress. Not Perfection.

The Whole 30 search engine is like....ask anything up there in the lil search box and voila, there it is. I call it the backroads of the Whole 30. I cruise around the backroads all of time. I'm always looking for the gold nuggets hidden under rocks, trees and bushes. The archives reveal our Whole 30 ancestors who've went before us. They've paved the way and wrote the book. GrannieD
Tulip, to add a photo, first I share my post. Then I click the edit button. Scroll to the bottom. It will ask if you want to attach a file. Then I click "choose file" and it will give you options. I click to attach existing....and pick the photo I want. Don't forget to click "attach this file" after you do this or it will not attach. It comes out as a thumbnail but I don't share my personal photos on photobucket, flicker, or anything else.
