allycat621
I am currently on Day 27 and feel great in all ways but one; my skin is so incredibly itchy! It is only at night, but it is so severe that I cannot sleep. I haven't slept more than 4 hours in the night in almost a week. I take a Claritin every morning (have for years) and at night I drink valerian root tea, take melatonin AND a benadryl before bed and still....itchy! No rashes or welts, no marks at all on my skin just phantom itches -- my head, my face, my feet, my hips... At first I thought it might be a candida issue, but this is the first time I have ever experienced this, and I'm almost done with my Whole30. I have cut out eggs, but the itching is getting worse, not better, since I've been egg-free (5 days). My diet has been clean and balanced, i am well hydrated and moisturize constantly in hopes of avoiding another sleepless night. Any help will be much appreciated! I plan on seeing my PCP next week, but I am gong crazy until then!
peace_positive
Maybe it's just low humidity because of winter.
Danette M
Did the itchiness go away? I'm on day 19 and I've been HORRIBLY itchy for a week now. From head to toe! It doesn't matter how much moisterizer I use. I finally make the connection that it may be Whole30 related. Maybe I'm consuming too much of a food that can cause these symtpoms? It doesn't matter how much moisterizer I use. I finally make the connection that it may be Whole30 related. Maybe I'm consuming too much of a food that can cause these symtpoms? Just a thought... I used to get SO itchy and I blamed it on the sugar from eating too much fruit... so I cut back to only grapes... and it got worse... turns out I'm allergic to Sulfites and the way grapes are grown, they spray sulfites right onto the growing fruit so it's integral... That said, for both of you, it may be a food item, so I would suggest journalling what you eat and your symptoms and then varying what you eat the next week so you can see if something 'weird' is causing it. Also, drink enough water (they recommend 1/2oz per pound of body weight per day)... your skin is your biggest organ and when it gets dehydrated, it gets itchy
meon30
Hicould it be due to too few carbs?plus - is there any history of thyroid issue?try adding more safe carbs (tubers/roots) to your evening meal

Blandsbe
I am on Day 9, On Day 7 I broke out in hives. Very unpleasant, but the itching is mostly under control now. I attributed it to eating too much Sauerkraut and Mackerel. I took those things out and the itching has been getting better.

How much sauerkraut were you eating, Blandsbe? Sauerkraut is chalk full of good bacteria, if you were eating a lot-a lot, it's possible that you had a die off reaction (herxheimer effect) and that taking the sauerkraut out stopped the baddies from dying off so fast, thereby reducing your reaction.
