The Beginning of the Beginning

Hi All, I am starting my log here to keep myself accountable. Today was my first day and all is well so far. If you read my intro, you know my issue is not throughout the day, but the night fall causes me to make bad choices. I'm planning on making it through the next 30 days, whole 30 days from morning through night, and hopefully I will have developed a new habit of telling myself NO to the night time snackety snack attacks!

Thanks Debbie, you too! I have noticed when I stop eating after dinner I feel so much better the next day. Last night while watching tv my husband and boys were munching away on snacks so I went up to bed and finished my program. I felt relieved to remove myself from the temptation!

Day 2: while working this afternoon I mindlessly reached for a stick of sugar free gum and got the immediate thought NO, Whole30! So I pitched it in the trash...that was close! I did eat my dinner early tonight so no snacking after dinner. I've got my lunch already packed for tomorrow and eggs ready for breakfast. I feel like the day has gone ok. The absolutely hardest part of this is not mindlessly snacking in the evenings and having a dessert once a week, but I can do this, it's just 30 days!

Oh my, Day 4 is just about over, I'm so glad too because I've got that munchy feeling and I'm depressed. I'm going to drink some water, brush my body, take a bubble bath, and go to bed. I'm not hungry, just feeling deprived of not being able to munch and it's ridiculous I know...it's just a bad habit leaving my body.

Whew, glad I made it through the night, going to bed really helped put a stop to the munchies craving. I'm so glad I held strong and did not cave to the call. I've got a very busy day off planned, first the workout, followed by some house cleaning, then I'm heading out to get some new cutlery and a blender. I'm going to pick out some new recipes for the weekend since its supposed to rain most of the time. I will have to say that one of the things that really helped me make it through the past for days was having foods prepared and ready to go. Another new thing I did was proportioned raw nuts in soufle cups with lids to keep me from overindulging in these extremely dense snacks. I'm excited about having made it to Day 5 without night time snacks, this is a big accomplishment for me.

It's days end so I will add my meals:

M1. 2 eggs, bacon, cooked in coconut oil

M2. Tilapia, Brocolli steamed in coconut oil, macadamia nuts

M3. Beef jerky

M4. Salad with chicken, avocado, bacon, and 1/8 cup cashews

I liked all my meals for the day and feel very satisfied. I got in a great workout, play, rest, and plenty of sunlight!

Day 6 jut about complete. Meals were simple:

M1: chicken breast, coconut oil

M2: salad, 1/2 avocado, chicken, bacon

M3: 1/3 cup macadamia nuts

M4: chipotle teak bowl with peppers, tomatoes, steak, and guacamole

No workout for today since Friday is an awefully long work day. I do plan to kill it in the home gym this weekend.

Day 7, whew! Feeling great! I had some dried cranberries with raw cashews last night while my husband and boys were munching away on garbage. I felt like I was a part of the party but I think for the next time I will just go with the raw cashews and leave out the dried fruit. I'm heading downstairs to do my workout, T-Tapp is in store for me, then later on I'll be doing some rollerblading. I'll check back in to log meals at the end of the day. Happy September 1, and happy Whole 30 to all starting today!

I just had to share, we were invited to a spur of the moment BBQ last night. I put together a beautiful vegy salad to share and took along some chicken breasts for the grill. There was plenty of typical BBQ foods and beverages but I stayed on my plan and did not feel left out in the least! We had a great time shooting pool, talking, having fun meeting new people. I'll log my foods later.

Whew, Day 10 in the bag! I just came up to bed because it's been one of those draining days and I could really go off road, so I removed myself from the battleground and came to bed. I did my HIIT run at 5:30 this morning, went to work, and had great meals. We had our small group study after work, one of my favorite places to be but the snacks are everything but Whole30,so I took my meal along. I am very tired at this point, not a good place to be, so bed is the best cure to that. Meals for today:

M1: burger patty with 1/2 avocado

M2: Chocolate Chilli, 1/2 avocado

M3: salmon, Spinache, a few cashews

Lots of water today too...goodnight:)

Day 12, all is well. My email was about stress today and I'm thankful I don't deal with a lot of that. I am very busy with work and family, but the stress part just isn't much at all for now. I do lve classical music and listen often, maybe it is more helpful than I thought? My food is ready for the day and I'm making Melissa Jouilwin's chicken for dinner tonight. I'll pop back in later to report how it tasted:)

Day 15, honestly, I can't believe I've made it two whole weeks! I'm so happy and greatful;) My youngest son creates a lot of stress for me and if I was going to fall off the wagon, the past two days would have been the time to do it. I think the biggest thing that kept me on Whole30 was having no bad foods hanging around. Another thing I've been doing is getting up an hour earlier so I'm tired earlier, and going to bed at an hour earlier and removing me from the temptation to eat when I'm not hungry. As for teenage stressors, well let's just say my husband and I are doing the best we can. I think this is a tough time in the road of life, dealing with teenage stuff, ailing parents, and all the usual things of life all deal with. Press On, Right! A cool thing I got to do yesterday was to attend a T-Tapp seminar, had a great 2- hour instructional workout and got more information on certifying as an instructor a goal of mine. Food for today will be very simple:

M1: eggs, bacon

M2: salad, salmon

M3: Chilli, avocado

M4: if needed, maybe some macadamia nuts

It's going to be a beautiful day so I think I will be doing some rollerblading with my best friend and husband, Scott:)

Day 16: I loved today's email, all about the science of change. It really makes sence why it takes 66 days for a big habit change to settle in. For me, it's not about willpower, it's about making the right decision on nourishing myself both in quantity and quality of the right things. My day has just begun, I'm getting ready for my lower body T-Tapp workout, and food looks something like this for today:

M1: eggs and two bacon strips

M2: salad with ground beef, onions, and mushrooms

M3: hard boiled egg, avocado

M4: Shephards pie

I'm on my way to a great day!

Day 17: definitely going to make Melissa's Mayo this weekend, it sounds so good. So does the avocado dressing. Tuesday's are one of my busiest days, I'm working out here in a few minutes, followed by long work day, then small group with some of our close church friends. Meals for the day:

M1: 3 eggs, 2 strips bacon

M2: Cobb salad

M3: Shephards Pie

I've got my meals all ready, plus food for tomorrow is ready too! Smooth sailing:)

Wow, day 19, I just can not believe how fast this is going. The coolest thing is that I'm actually loving it! I can't believe I'm not thinking about the things I can't have, but do get excited about the things I can have. Someone asked me why I'm on this diet, I told her I'm not on a diet at all, I do feel that I'm on a sort of a reset though. This reset has been so good for me to purge all the sweets and things I just don't need. I'm not deprived and feel great. Food choices have been made very simple but if I want something complicated, I send some extra time and make it. I know I'm ot to day 30 yet but I am considering making it a little longer.

I'm also loving my Whole30 and don't feel deprived. Isn't it amazing how fast it is going. I am on Day 29 today but plan to go to 45 days or maybe 60 haven't decided yet. I've called it an eating plan rather than a diet although I am sure that to most people 'eating plan' will mean the same thing as diet. I was reading some of your earlier blog and agree that not snacking at night means that I wake up feeling that much better. I am sleeping better too although hope for more improvements over time.

Good luck with the rest of your WHole30

Day 25 and clipping along, this just seems normal now. I'm trying new recipes regularly and excited to share my Whole30 with onlookers I come in contact with. Our small group meets every Tuesday night, we start by having dinner together. They had KFC while I was having my chipotle seasoned chicken over a fresh salad. I can bet without a doubt that I felt amazing after my dinner while they felt terrible. I fall asleep faster, stay asleep, and wake up earlier and easier too. I love getting my workout early before work but won't sacrifice sleep if I need extra, I feel that's best. I also tried the kettle bell workout and really feel this is something I can get hooked on and add to my T-Tapp workouts:)

Evening update: some girls at work told me today my rear end is getting smaller! WooHoo!

Day 27, today's email on killing the TV and Whole 30 from caffeine, now those are some really tough challenges! Mellisa and Dallas hit the nails right on the head for me! I know I would have to really plan that siesta from my beloved coffee extremely well because I've been drinking it since I was 5 years old. I have a wonderful memory of staying home from school on a sick day, just me and mom, she would perk a pot of coffee and we would watch Dark Shadows together. Great memories drinking coffee with mom. Anyway, that one would be tough to do, plus I would probably have a massive headache from withdrawal too. I'll think about it...I've decided to make my Whole30 a Whole50 because my magic started during my last week, I'm FINALLY slimming down! I believe this bust from sugar and bad foods coupled with my exercise is getting me to where I have wanted to go for such a long time:)

Day 29: I find I'm not even thinking about sugar anymore, I don't even dream about desserts like I used to. I'm sleeping so very good too. Like I said earlier, my magic started around day 25 so I'm extending my Whole30 to 50. I really love how I'm feeling as well as the simplicity of it all. I've been trying new recipes on my family too, still having to make them a favorite side dish or two, but I'm completely fine with that. They are happy and so am I.
