Today is Day 1!

Hey y'all! I'm starting my Whole30 today. I just got through a family move from Tennessee to Texas, and today I'm starting week 2 at a new job. I feel really discombobulated from all this.

Before the move, for about a year, I've been into bodybuilding and following a standard bodybuilding diet. I saw great cosmetic results, but have developed some digestive issues. Plus my skin is not so great. I'm hoping this program will help with those things.

My biggest fear is that there will be something that I think is okay and eat, but then find out it really isn't, then I have to start over. It may be an irrational fear, I'm not sure. I think since this is my first time it's probably normal.

Okay, that's all there is about me :-)

I am too!

Although, since the beginning of August, I've been on a different diet targeting GI. As a result, I went through a detox and have already removed grains and sugar from my diet. Aside from dairy and legumes going away, I did my clean out and became an avid ingredient reader yesterday. I'm hoping already have kicked most of the carbs means that I won't have a very difficult Week One. Anyway, good luck, Uberlibrarian.

Hey back at ya!

Adam is right. Reading Labels is critical. Does that vinegar have added sulfites? Does that can of tuna have soy? Does that can of tomato sauce have sugar (or anything ending in "ose") added. Only by reading labels will you find out. I suggest you read all the labels in you pantry, and save hours for your first shop...

I spent 4-5 hours Saturday AM doing my shopping for my Day 1 including detailed conversations with the vendors at my local farmers market. At first this was a pain but it was nice to really get to know the market vendors, I learned what products I can and will use at my local health food stores and my go-to staples from my local grocery store. Next time should be much quicker.

If you go with the wrong mind-frame, It can be depressing because of "all the food I cannot eat" but I chose to view it as enlightening because I finally know all the "crap" that is in my food and stuff "I choose" not to put into my body for the next while anyways. I know it will be faster and better in the future and find it a bonus when I come across a real gem that I never knew about in the grocery store I shop at all the time.

Turn that fear into a challenge. If you pull something off you shelf to make/season your dinner, and you find sulfites/sugar/MSG, etc., in it, it becomes a two part challenge: 1) how can I make/season this meal tonight (get creative) with a compliant substitute; and 2) put finding a compliant ingredient on your list for this week's shopping.

Enjoy the process and the health benefits you will earn!

Cheers

DJ

In addition, I too ate no grains or added sugar before this W30. Yesterday was tough (headache and tired) when I woke up (on day 2) but today I feel like I could run a marathon (OK, maybe not but you get the idea). I worked out this AM and at lunch on a day when I was supposed to be in the midst of a food hangover. In my limited experience, the hardship is less if you were pseudo-doing the program before your start date. Maybe tomorrow will be different and I will want to "Kill all things".

Cheers

Hi, new here, today is day one for me and my husband too. We've been sort of paleo since I got diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis back in March but been slacking a bit as we went away on holiday for a couple of weeks. We've actually been a lot stricter than this program in the past so I'm looking forward to a little flexiblity :-)

Hi guys :-)

Thanks for the tips. I am having a little bit of a mid-afternoon slump right now. Feeling foggy, hungry a little, and tired. In 30 minutes I get off work and go pick up my kids and there's a mad dash until I finally get us all to bed... but also night time is the time I have the hardest with. I'm posting that here for accountability :-)

Howdy!!!

The time when I first get home is most difficult for me as well. That's my vulnerable time - when I'm hungry and tired, and just want something delicious to snack on. Today was different in that I found some walnuts (not too many) and a yellow pepper to snack on while I cooked up Puerto Rican beef from the paleo cookbook.

Like you, I'm also going through lots of transitions. Just got married in July, moved to a new state (without hubby for now), and started a new job. Lots of changes, all positive, and I'm adding this one to the list.

You got this girl!

I just started yesterday and it's for real this time! I'm one of those people who can keep it up very well during the week but as soon as I'm faced with a social situation or weekend everything flies out the window. It's like I work hard all week and can't handle the deprivation (perceived) on the weekend. However, I'm *this* close to feeling how I want to physically and I know I need some sort of next-level sort of commitment to get all the way there. No matter how much progress I've made, I still have annoying emotional ties to food. I also have a lot of personal self-improvement that I want to work on and my throw it all away attitude on weekends results in less than stellar motivation, energy, mood, etc. So, I'm joining you guys. I'm posting because I'm afraid to tell anyone in my real life because they'll just think it's something new and crazy that I'll never follow through with.

My biggest fear is that I'll have a perfect week and throw it away on Friday night. And then Saturday. And then Sunday. And then have to recommit yet again on Monday. So I'm saying it out loud: not this time! I purposely picked a time when I don't have any big social events coming up so I shouldn't have any lame excuses.

Thanks Derval! I'm so jealous when I see people posting about how they've made it 19 or 27 days. I can't wait to be able to say that. I have a sneaking suspicion that it gets easier after the first two weeks and the time will just fly by.
