FeliciaOH
I am finishing my first W30 tomorrow, and I'd like to be able to chew some gum. Is there a kind that is "less bad" than others?
Administrators ladyshanny Posted February 2, 2015 Administrators Share Posted February 2, 2015 Hi Felicia, We don't discuss "less bad" options on the forum. Once your Whole30 is over you are free to do as you see fit. You might be wise to "reintro" different kinds of gum with different sweeteners and see how you react. Just know that chewing gum is not an awesome product to use if you can help it. Digestion is activated by the chewing action. When you chew gum you are telling your body that food is inbound and acid production etc gears up....but no food ever comes. This causes problems such as too much stomach acid and might even compromise your digestive ability when you do actually send food in.
FeliciaOH
Thanks for your help! I am mostly interested in after lunch, since my job requires close contact with people, and I don't usually have time to brush my teeth or anything. But my GERD has cleared up since starting the program, so I'll have to consider whether to even bother.
Healthy(ish)Linz
Felicia, I have same issue at work so sometimes I will eat an apple or pear after lunch and that seems to help.
praxisproject
Peppermint tea (hot or cold) is a gum alternative. I've found all the gums seem to upset my stomach, so I avoid them all now.
