Snacking

Recommended Posts

I am on Day 3 of my first Whole 30. I am a teacher so my mealtimes are mandated rather than being able to eat when I simply feel hungry. I eat breakfast at 7AM and my lunch time is at 1PM. For breakfast I usually have 2 scrambled eggs cooked in olive oil, 1/2 an avocado and veggies and feel full after breakfast for several hours. I am used to having a handful of almonds around 11AM but haven't since starting the Whole30. I am finding that I am hungry before my 1PM lunch. Is this simply a habit I will get used to as I don't snack throughout the Whole30? Or is 6 hours truly too long to wait between breakfast and lunch? Thanks for your help!

If you're truly hungry between meals, we recommend eating a snack that's a mini template meal of protein, veg and fat. So a handful of nuts should be out. Congrats on avoiding it thus far!

Six hours between meals isn't a problem unless you're genuinely hungry.

The proper portion of eggs is the number you can hold in one hand. For even the smallest of women, that works out to at least three eggs. So, I suggest adding a third egg to your breakfast and see if that helps tide you over until 1 p.m.

6 hours isn't too long (that's the duration between my lunch and dinner, too) but 6 hours on just the 2 eggs is probably not going to do it.  If you can eat a nice big breakfast complete with 1-3 cups of veggies along with your increased protein and the fat, you should make it pretty close to 6 hours no problem!

I have a limit with eggs and satiation, myself...I can eat 3 or I can eat 6, the satiation doesn't change.  Therefore I usually go with 2 eggs and a serving of a meat protein.  That gets me from 630 until almost 12:30pm.  Experiment a bit with your meal composition?
