AngieZ Posted February 5, 2015 Share Posted February 5, 2015 Trader Joes is an hour & a half away from my house so I am planning on making the trip every two weeks if I find that it's worth it. My first trip is planned for this weekend. What are the things you recommend I get while I'm there that I can't get at a local grocery store? I am using February as a transition month and will be 100% Whole30 by March 1st. Gave up sugar last November so that's a start. What do u buy while your there? papayarain Posted February 5, 2015 Share Posted February 5, 2015 Cruciferous Crunch Collection!! It is a mix of shredded kale, brussels sprouts, broccoli, green cabbage and red cabbage. Munkers Posted February 5, 2015 Share Posted February 5, 2015 For me, Trader Joe's is not worth an hour and a half trip, but I also have easy access to Sprouts (a natural grocery store chain) and a Whole Foods for things that I can't find at Sprouts. If you want coconut milk with no fillers (only ingredients coconut and water) and can't or won't make your own coconut milk, then Trader Joe's offers options without guar gum or other emulsifiers. TJ's also seems to have better prices on pastured chickens (which I use for bone broth), but we don't buy enough of them to justify that long of a trip. jent103 Posted February 5, 2015 Share Posted February 5, 2015 TJ has the best prices on grass-fed beef among the chains in my area, and it's frozen, so it'll keep for your trip in a cooler just fine. They have better prices on nuts, almond butter and dried fruits than most places in my area as well (use these things with caution, as they are food without brakes for many!). My TJ's has a lot of packaged (processed) foods with colorful labels. A third of the store is dedicated to wine. Their fresh produce is often sub-standard and the variety of meat is limited.
