Day 6 And Hit A Wall

Recommended Posts

I am on day 6 of my first Whole30. Today I feel like I hit a wall - very lethargic and melancholy. I also have been feeling like my body is vibrating the past day or so. I looked at the timeline and it seems this is common. How long does this last? Any tips for getting through it? Thanks.

Are you able to post a couple of days worth of meals for folks to look at?

My first suggestion before I see anything is to include a starchy vegetable in your next meal.  So things like squash, beets, jicama, sweet potato, carrots, parsnips, turnip, or basically any root vegetable that you can get your hands on.

I have been having scrambled egg whites for breakfast or hard boiled eggs with fruit. Some days I had egg whites and the pumpkin breakfast pudding with pecans. For lunch I had an apple with almond butter or whole nuts, or tuna salad with homemade mayo and lettuce. For dinner I made a vegetable soup loaded with vegetables, including potatoes and butternut squash for starch. Then I would have a big salad with lots of raw vegetables and diced up chicken and hardboiled eggs and avocados with homemade vinaigrette dressing. One night I had a hamburger patty and a yam with ghee along with the soup. I haven't yet been able to eat three meals and usually need a snack in the afternoon and before bed. I previously ate a lot of beans and not too much meat, so I am adjusting to the amount of meat. I have been drinking a lot of filtered water, green/black decaf tea and occasional decaf coffee with coconut milk.

Why are you eating egg whites rather than whole eggs?

As you noted, you definitely need more protein. Also fat. And 2-3 cups of veggies with every meal. Pretty much more food in general will help.

But the best thing you can do is stick to the template: http://whole30.com/downloads/whole30-meal-planning.pdf

Definitely a case of not eating enough food.

Apple and almond butter or nuts is not a lunch, especially not when it follows egg whites and a piece of fruit for breakfast.  That is not enough nutrients for one meal let alone to get you from wake-up to dinner.

Not sure what "the pumpkin breakfast pudding" would be?

Egg whites only give you approximately half the protein that is contained in the egg.  A serving of eggs is how many you could hold in your hand without dropping so if that was 4 but you were only eating the whites (which we don't recommend) you would actually need to eat at least 8 egg whites to get the right protein....but of course you'd be missing all the vitamins and minerals that are in the yolk.

If you are having trouble with meat you can check out the article below, but do try your very best to move towards the template that LadyM linked above, you need to eat!

Thank you for the advice. I have been trying to eat more yesterday and today. I will definitely start using the template for my future meals. The pumpkin breakfast pudding is a recipe I found online that was said to be Whole30 approved. It is canned pumpkin, coconut milk, eggs, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt and pecans.
