Day 29 and major bowel issues

Recommended Posts

Another bowel question! Sorry guys! We are on day 29 and have done reasonably well throughout. I already had a "lazy bowel" before starting the whole 39, but it seems to have got worse. I haven't had a reasonable bowel movement for at least 5 days and am feeling discouraged and very uncomfortable, to the extent that last night I skipped dinner. I just couldnt face eating!

a typical day's meals for us would be:

breakfast - two eggs and a pepper stew

lunch - fish, chicken or meat with sauteed , roast, or stewed veggies. Yesterday was a veggie curry (mild)

Dinner - two slices of roast beef with olives and fresh tomatoes drizzled with olive oil, or left- overs. I try to stick as close as possible o the template.

I drink at least four to six large cups of tea per day, including green tea after lunch and rooibos tea in the evening. I try to drink water as well, but with the weather being cold, it's difficult to do that. Any ideas?

I think you need more fiberous veggies in there, especially leafy greens. I can relate as I'm very similar in the bowel department.

I'm trying to drink more water. If you can't stomach cold water in winter, try drinking plain hot water, as if making a cup of tea without the tea. That's helped me drink more in winter.

Thank you. I'll try to drink more water. I don't think it's lack of fibrous greens because I vary our veggies quite a lot and this last week we had spinach several days, flat green beans and artichokes as well as cabbage, zucchini and fennel. I try to put a variety on the plate, except for breakfast. Hubby says broccoli for breakfast just won't work for him so, since he's been so good about everything else, we have what he wants. It's usually eggs and some sort of veggie stew (ratatouille, peperonata or veggie curry). Sorry, the example I gave probably wasn't that complete. We also have a mixed salad sometimes. My frodge is so full of veggies, I'm storing some of them in a cupboard in the cold outside! Going for some water now! Good luck with your whole30 and thanks again!

Try dropping the raw vegetables and switching to all cooked veggies and see if that helps as well.

As a side note, when eggs are your protein, the serving size is the number of whole eggs you can hold in one hand without dropping them. For most folks, that's at least 3-4 eggs.

I was the same and am finally getting corrected!!! I take a food enzyme with every meal and a probiotic every night. You must drink water!! Also, they recommended I add a sweet potato or starchy veg at least once a day if not twice if your stool is loose! This has helped a lot. I am still not perfect, but I feel I am getting there, and so much better!!! I will be going longer because we are encouraged not to stop until our bowels are correct. Works for me!!

Yes, you must drink water. Herbal tea is a fine beverage, but would you wash your walls with it? Your body needs clean, fresh water. And drinking it hot or warm is actually better for your system than drinking it cold. Give it a shot.

Starchy veg can help when you're backed up, too. Especially when we increase insoluble fiber and cut out a lot of soluble fiber sources (like in a paleo/whole30 approach) adding back in some soluble fiber can work wonders.

Here's what works for me: drinking plenty of water, starting the day with a cup of hot water with fresh lemon juice, increasing starchy veg, especially later in the day, and take a magnesium supplement before bed.

I hope you find some relief soon!

You need to have a bowel movement. It is dangerous not to have one, you can damage your bowels. Take a dose of castor oil. Make sure you stay close to a bathroom. Start with 1/2 a shot glass followed by a glass of water with lemon. I also use a product called Triphala Gold which naturally gets things moving in the right direction, but it can take a day. It may not be whole30 compliant. Other solutions are enemas and colonics. If you don't have a bowel movement in a day you should go to your doctor. You could be having herxheimers reaction. This can also cause mucoid plaque to be released from the bowels. It is a stcky brown mess that can make you extremely constipated. If you have a strong stomach you can look up pictures of mucoid plaque on google. I hope you feel better soon.

I had a similar problem in week three of my Whole 30.  Constipated for 5 days!  This was after a week of diarrhea, so perhaps I over-corrected.  Anyway, I bought a box of Smooth Move Tea from Traditional Medicinals.  It was available at my local grogery store in the "organic/natural foods" section.  I took one mug and in about 4 hours I was well on my way to recovery.  And the additional side effects were very minimal.  (I'm also using enzymes and probiotics now to maintain my happy gut!)

Oh dear, sometimes I don't go for 3 days!! And you can see in my post above that I feel like I am doing everything right.... But I haven't gone well for 3 days again

So I might be looking into that tea too!!!! I just want to be regular again!!!
