Glaucus
I'm just starting but haven't been able to find clear guidelines on fruit. Can someone point me to these? Basically I want to know: - how much fruit is allowed - which fruits - is fruit discouraged generally Thank you!
Moderators LadyM Posted February 9, 2015 Moderators Share Posted February 9, 2015 The template suggests an occasional piece of fresh fruit. We recommend no more than one or two pieces a day with meals. Enjoy it and make sure not to let fruit push veggies off your plate. Any fresh fruit is fine. Eating fruit with meal three or before bed can disrupt sleep because of the fructose. Beware dried fruit especially paired with nuts. This kind of "snacking" is strongly discouraged. Dried fruit is about as good as candy, it will feed your sugar dragon, and stall hormone balance.
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted February 9, 2015 Moderators Share Posted February 9, 2015 My favorites, when I eat fruit, are berries. Blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries. They are a great choice.
SpinSpin
When I eat fruit, I typically add it to a salad--a palm full of blueberries, apples or grapes (halved) tossed with a mixed green salad with a meal including meat and fat or like chicken salad--really good with apples and grapes--along with healthy fats, like mayo or avocado. I treat fruit as a flavor enhancer as opposed to an actual piece on my plate.
Sleeve
Melon(cantaloupe and honeydew), grapefruit, berries (EXCEPT blueberries), oranges, peaches, and nectarines are low fructose. For fructose-related sleep impact, avoid grapes, raisins, dates, figs, apples, pears, cherries, blueberries, bananas, kiwi, and plums. Blackberries are a great choice for fiber versus fructose.
