abbyn
Hi Mamas, I've only been at this round of whole30 for just over a week, but I have been delighted to find I don't have any heartburn! I never really noticed a correlation between what I was eating and when I'd have heartburn, and I still eat spicy food (cholula on my eggs, often!) but I haven't noticed any since I've started. Anyone else experience this? I'm really trying to pay attention this round because it doesn't seem like many people do whole30 while pregnant and I think if you've done it before, it's super manageable and feels like there are many benefits! Still, kind of hard to explain to people without them thinking you are depriving your baby somehow...
creativenikki
I haven't had to deal with heartburn yet, but I'm only 6W5D right now. That said, I know grains give me heartburn when I'm not pregnant, so I'm sure the same will happen when I am pregnant. My mom always gets heartburn after she has any gluten containing grain. Corn often does it to me too. So, to me, it makes total sense that Whole30 would clear it up. I'm planning on staying mostly Whole30 during my pregnancy and I really hope I can avoid heartburn (among other negative symptoms) that way. We'll see... creativenikki
Oh, I meant to say, spicy food never gives me heartburn, actually. Luckily, too, because I love spicy stuff.
abbyn
I hope you don't end up getting any, Nikki! I (used to) get it at the strangest times, like after I ate a banana... Have you heard the old wives tale that having a lot of heartburn during pregnancy means you're having a girl with a lot of hair? That actually was true for me last time and I'm having a girl again! creativenikki
I have heard that. Right now, all the old wives tales point to me having a boy. But, of course, it is way too early to say right now. I know my husband would be very happy with a boy, so I haven't told him that stuff yet because I don't want to get his hopes up. I'll be happy either way. I've been pretty lucky so far. I was extremely sick last Sunday and Monday, but I've gotten less sick each day since then. I don't know if I was sick because of re-introduction of food, pregnancy or something else. I guess we'll see tomorrow because I had pizza today at my nephew's first birthday party (there was absolutely no other option available, not even salad!). So, if I'm super sick tomorrow again I can be pretty sure the dairy and gluten combo is horrible for me and avoid it as much as possible for the rest of my life. I love pizza, but I don't love any food enough to feel how I did last Sunday and Monday.
abbyn
Welp, having a little heartburn tonight... I'm guessing its from the tomato sauce on my meatloaf... but it's really not severe and definitely less common than it had been!
bellewannabe17
Try pineapple and papya enzymes for your heartburn. The ones at Trader Joe's have fructose in them, but I bet you could find more natural ones online. You can also drink pickle juice. Crazy, but it works! I'm 37 weeks and heartburn JUST started for me last week. Ugh.
abbyn
Thanks, I never heard of taking them! And pickle juice... I'd be willing to try. I find pregnancy heartburn so much more severe than regular heartburn. TWICE I have actually thought I was having a heart attack or panic attack... but I *think* it was just really intense heartburn (the second time it happened was when I realized I might be pregnant again!). You only have 3 more weeks, I'm pretty jealous, haha! Hope your labor goes really well!
